    Search for a dark vector gauge boson decaying to π+π\pi^+ \pi^- using ηπ+πγ\eta \rightarrow \pi^+\pi^- \gamma decays

    Full text link
    We report a search for a dark vector gauge boson UU^\prime that couples to quarks in the decay chain D+D0π+,D0KS0η,ηUγD^{*+} \to D^0 \pi^+, D^0 \to K^0_S \eta, \eta \to U^\prime \gamma, Uπ+πU^\prime \to \pi^+ \pi^-. No signal is found and we set a mass-dependent limit on the baryonic fine structure constant of 10310210^{-3} - 10^{-2} in the UU^\prime mass range of 290 to 520 MeV/c2c^2. This analysis is based on a data sample of 976 fb1^{-1} collected by the Belle experiment at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+ee^+e^- collider.Comment: 6 pages, 4 figure

    Search for Bs0γγB_{s}^{0}\rightarrow\gamma\gamma and a measurement of the branching fraction for Bs0ϕγB_{s}^{0}\rightarrow\phi\gamma

    Full text link
    We search for the decay Bs0γγB_{s}^{0}\rightarrow\gamma\gamma and measure the branching fraction for Bs0ϕγB_{s}^{0}\rightarrow\phi\gamma using 121.4~fb1\textrm{fb}^{-1} of data collected at the Υ(5S)\Upsilon(\mathrm{5}S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+ee^{+}e^{-} collider. The Bs0ϕγB_{s}^{0}\rightarrow\phi\gamma branching fraction is measured to be (3.6±0.5(stat.)±0.3(syst.)±0.6(fs))×105(3.6 \pm 0.5 (\mathrm{stat.}) \pm 0.3 (\mathrm{syst.}) \pm 0.6 (f_{s})) \times 10^{-5}, where fsf_{s} is the fraction of Bs()Bˉs()B_{s}^{(*)}\bar{B}_{s}^{(*)} in bbˉb\bar{b} events. Our result is in good agreement with the theoretical predictions as well as with a recent measurement from LHCb. We observe no statistically significant signal for the decay Bs0γγB_{s}^{0}\rightarrow\gamma\gamma and set a 90%90\% confidence-level upper limit on its branching fraction at 3.1×106 3.1 \times 10^{-6}. This constitutes a significant improvement over the previous result.Comment: 6 pages, 3 figure

Funded by SCOAP 3 We report new measurements of the production cross sections of pairs of charged pions and kaons as a function of their fractional energies using various fractional-energy definitions. Two different fractional-energy definitions were used and compared to the conventional fractional-energy definition reported previously. The new variables aim at either identifying dihadron cross sections in terms of single-hadron fragmentation functions, or to provide a means of characterizing the transverse momentum created in the fragmentation process. The results were obtained applying the updated initial-state radiation correction used in other recent Belle publications on light-hadron production cross sections. In addition, production cross sections of single charged pions, kaons, and protons were also updated using this initial-state radiation correction. The cross sections are obtained from a 558 fb-1 data sample collected at the γ(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e- collider

    We report new measurements of the total cross sections for e+eΥ(nS)π+πe^+e^-\to \Upsilon(n{\rm S})\pi^+\pi^- (nn = 1, 2, 3) and e+ebbˉe^+e^-\to b\bar b from a high-luminosity fine scan of the region s=10.63\sqrt{s} = 10.63-11.0511.05 GeV with the Belle detector. We observe that the Υ(nS)π+π\Upsilon(n{\rm S})\pi^+\pi^- spectra have little or no non-resonant component and extract from them the masses and widths of Υ(10860)\Upsilon(10860) and Υ(11020)\Upsilon(11020) and their relative phase. We find M10860=(10891.1±3.21.7+0.6)M_{10860}=(10891.1\pm3.2^{+0.6}_{-1.7}) MeV/c2c^2 and \Gamma_{10860}=(53.7^{+7.1}_{-5.6}\,^{+1.3}_{-5.4}) MeV and report first measurements M_{11020}=(10987.5^{+6.4}_{-2.5}\,^{+9.0}_{-2.1}) MeV/c2c^2, \Gamma_{11020}=(61^{+9}_{-19}\,^{+2}_{-20}) MeV, and \phi_{\rm 11020}-\phi_{\rm 10860} = (-1.0\pm0.4\,^{+1.4}_{-0.1}) rad.Comment: University of Cincinnati preprint UCHEP-15-01, submitted to Physical Review D - Rapid Communication

    Using a sample of 771.6×106771.6 \times 10^{6} Υ(4S)\Upsilon(4S) decays collected by the Belle experiment at the KEKB e+ee^+e^- collider, we observe for the first time the transition Υ(4S)ηhb(1P)\Upsilon(4S) \to \eta h_b(1P) with the branching fraction B[Υ(4S)ηhb(1P)]=(2.18±0.11±0.18)×103{\cal B}[\Upsilon(4S) \to \eta h_b(1P)]= (2.18 \pm 0.11 \pm 0.18) \times 10^{-3} and we measure the hb(1P)h_b(1P) mass Mhb(1P)=(9899.3±0.4±1.0)M_{h_{b}(1P)} = (9899.3 \pm 0.4 \pm 1.0) MeV/c2c^{2}, corresponding to the hyperfine splitting ΔMHF(1P)=(0.6±0.4±1.0)\Delta M_{\mathrm HF}(1P) = (0.6 \pm 0.4 \pm 1.0) MeV/c2c^{2}. Using the transition hb(1P)γηb(1S)h_b(1P) \to \gamma \eta_b(1S), we measure the ηb(1S)\eta_b(1S) mass Mηb(1S)=(9400.7±1.7±1.6)M_{\eta_{b}(1S)} = (9400.7 \pm 1.7 \pm 1.6) MeV/c2c^{2}, corresponding to ΔMHF(1S)=(59.6±1.7±1.6)\Delta M_{\mathrm HF}(1S) = (59.6 \pm 1.7 \pm 1.6) MeV/c2c^{2}, the ηb(1S)\eta_b(1S) width Γηb(1S)=(85+6±5)\Gamma_{\eta_{b}(1S)} = (8 ^{+6}_{-5} \pm 5) MeV/c2c^{2} and the branching fraction B[hb(1P)γηb(1S)]=(56±8±4)%{\cal B}[h_b(1P) \to \gamma \eta_b(1S)]= (56 \pm 8 \pm 4) \%.Comment: 7 pages, 2 figures, submitted to Phys.     Measurement of the Branching Fraction of the Decay B+π+π+ν\boldsymbol{B^{+}\to\pi^{+}\pi^{-}\ell^{+}\nu_\ell} in Fully Reconstructed Events at Belle

    Get PDF
    We present an analysis of the exclusive B+π+π+νB^{+}\to\pi^{+}\pi^{-}\ell^{+}\nu_{\ell} decay, where \ell represents an electron or a muon, with the assumption of charge-conjugation symmetry and lepton universality. The analysis uses the full Υ(4S)\Upsilon(4S) data sample collected by the Belle detector, corresponding to 711 fb1^{-1} of integrated luminosity. We select the events by fully reconstructing one BB meson in hadronic decay modes, subsequently determining the properties of the other BB meson. We extract the signal yields using a binned maximum-likelihood fit to the missing-mass squared distribution in bins of the invariant mass of the two pions or the momentum transfer squared. We measure a total branching fraction of B(B+π+π+ν)=[22.71.6+1.9(stat)±3.5(syst)]×105{{\cal B}(B^{+}\to \pi^{+}\pi^{-}\ell^{+}\nu_{\ell})= [22.7 ^{+1.9}_{-1.6} (\mathrm{stat}) \pm 3.5(\mathrm{syst}) ]\times 10^{-5}}, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. This result is the first reported measurement of this decay.Comment: 23 pages, 19 figure

    Observation of X(3872)X(3872) in BX(3872)KπB \to X(3872) K\pi decays

    We report the first observation of B0X(3872)(K+π)B^0 \to X(3872) (K^{+}\pi^{-}) and evidence for B+X(3872)(K0π+)B^+ \to X(3872) (K^{0}\pi^{+}). We measure the product of branching fractions for the former to be {\cal B}(B^0 \to X(3872) (K^+ \pi^-)) \times {\cal B}(X(3872) \to J/\psi \pi^+ \pi^-) = (7.9 \pm 1.3(\mbox{stat.})\pm 0.4(\mbox{syst.})) \times 10^{-6} and find that B0X(3872)K(892)0B^{0}\to X(3872) K^{*}(892)^{0} does not dominate the B0X(3872)K+πB^{0}\to X(3872)K^{+}\pi^{-} decay mode. We also measure {\cal B}(B^+ \to X(3872) (K^0 \pi^+)) \times {\cal B}(X(3872) \to J/\psi \pi^+ \pi^-) = (10.6 \pm 3.0(\mbox{stat.}) \pm 0.9(\mbox{syst.})) \times 10^{-6}. This study is based on the full data sample of 711~fb1^{-1} (772×106BBˉ772\times 10^6 B\bar B pairs) collected at the Υ(4S)\Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB collider.Comment: 7 pages, 3 figure

    Study of π0\pi^0 pair production in single-tag two-photon collisions

    Full text link
    We report a measurement of the differential cross section of π0\pi^0 pair production in single-tag two-photon collisions, γγπ0π0\gamma^* \gamma \to \pi^0 \pi^0, in e+ee^+ e^- scattering. The cross section is measured for Q2Q^2 up to 30 GeV2^2, where Q2Q^2 is the negative of the invariant mass squared of the tagged photon, in the kinematic range 0.5 GeV < W < 2.1 GeV and cosθ|\cos \theta^*| < 1.0 for the total energy and pion scattering angle, respectively, in the γγ\gamma^* \gamma center-of-mass system. The results are based on a data sample of 759 fb1^{-1} collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+ee^+ e^- collider. The transition form factor of the f0(980)f_0(980) and that of the f2(1270)f_2(1270) with the helicity-0, -1, and -2 components separately are measured for the first time and are compared with theoretical calculations.Comment: 36 pages, 37 figures, 11 tables, Belle Preprint 2015-15, KEK Preprint 2015-2

    We present an analysis of the semi-inclusive decays BsDsX+νB_s \to D_s^- X \ell^+ \nu and BsDsX+νB_s \to D_s^{*-} X \ell^+ \nu, where XX denotes a final state that may consist of additional hadrons or photons and \ell is an electron or muon. The studied BsB_s decays are contained in the 121.4 fb1121.4~{\rm fb}^{-1} Υ(5S)\Upsilon(5S) data sample collected by the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+ee^+e^- collider. The branching fractions of the decays are measured to be B(BsDsX+ν)=[8.2±0.2(stat)±0.6(syst)±1.4(ext)]%\mathcal{B}(B_s \to D_s^- X \ell^+ \nu) = [8.2 \pm 0.2 (\text{stat}) \pm 0.6 (\text{syst}) \pm 1.4 (\text{ext})]\% and B(BsDsX+ν)=[5.4±0.4(stat)±0.4(syst)±0.9(ext)]%\mathcal{B}(B_s \to D_s^{*-} X \ell^+ \nu) = [5.4 \pm 0.4 (\text{stat}) \pm 0.4 (\text{syst}) \pm 0.9 (\text{ext})]\%, where the first two uncertainties are statistical and systematic and the last is due to external parameters. The measurement also provides an estimate of the Bs()Bˉs()B_s^{(*)}\bar{B}_s^{(*)} production cross-section, σ(e+eBs()Bˉs())=(53.8±1.4(stat)±4.0(syst)±3.4(ext))pb\sigma(e^+e^- \to B_s^{(*)}\bar{B}_s^{(*)}) = (53.8 \pm 1.4 (\text{stat}) \pm 4.0 (\text{syst}) \pm 3.4 (\text{ext}))\,{\rm pb}, at the center-of-mass energy s=10.86GeV\sqrt{s} = 10.86\,{\rm GeV}.Comment: 13 pages, 2 figures, submitted to Phys.     Evidence for the decay B0->eta pi^0

    Full text link
    We report a search for the charmless hadronic decay B0ηπ0B^0\to\eta \pi^0 with a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 694 fb1\rm fb^{-1} containing 753×106753\times10^6 BBˉB\bar{B} pairs. The data were collected by the Belle experiment running on the Υ(4S)\Upsilon(4S) resonance at the KEKB e+ee^+e^- collider. We measure a branching fraction B(B0ηπ0)=(4.11.50.7+1.7+0.5)×107\mathcal{B}(B^0\to\eta\pi^0)=(4.1^{+1.7+0.5}_{-1.5-0.7})\times 10^{-7}, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. Our measurement gives an upper limit of B(B0ηπ0)<6.5×107\mathcal{B}(B^0\to\eta\pi^0)<6.5\times 10^{-7} at 90\% confidence level. The signal has a significance of 3.03.0 standard deviations and constitutes the first evidence for this decay mode.Comment: 11 pages, 3 figures, 2 tables, submitted to Physical Review D(R
