    Assessment of ventricular and left atrial mechanical functions, atrial electromechanical delay and P wave dispersion in patients with scleroderma

    Background: The aim of this study was to investigate ventricular functions and left atrial (LA) mechanical functions, atrial electromechanical coupling, and P wave dispersion in scleroderma patients. Methods: Twenty-six patients with scleroderma and twenty-four controls were included. Left and right ventricular (LV and RV) functions were evaluated using conventional echocardiography and tissue Doppler imaging (TDI). LA volumes were measured using the biplane area- -length method and LA mechanical function parameters were calculated. Inter-intraatrial electromechanical delays were measured by TDI. P wave dispersion was calculated by 12-lead electrocardiograms. Results: LV myocardial performance indices (MPI) and RV MPI were higher in patients with scleroderma (p = 0.000, p = 0.000, respectively) while LA passive emptying fraction was decreased and LA active emptying fraction was increased (p = 0.051, p = 0.000, respectively). P wave dispersion and inter-intraatrial electromechanical delay were significantly higher in patients with scleroderma (25 [10&#8211;60] vs 20 [0&#8211;30], p = 0.000, 16.50 [7.28&#8211;26.38] vs 9.44 [3.79&#8211;15.78] and 11.33 [4.88&#8211;16.06] vs 4.00 [0&#8211;12.90], p < 0.05, respectively). Interatrial electromechanical delay was negatively correlated with LV E wave, (p = 0.018). LV E wave was demonstrated to be a factor independent of the interatrial electromechanical delay (R2 = = 0.270, b = &#8211;0.52, p = 0.013). Conclusions: This study showed that in scleroderma patients, global functions of LV, RV and mechanical functions of LA were impaired, intra-interatrial electromechanical delays were prolonged and P wave dispersion was higher. LV E wave was demonstrated to be a factor that is independent of the interatrial electromechanical delay. Reduced LV E wave may also give additional information on the process of risk stratification of atrial fibrillation. (Cardiol J 2011; 18, 3: 261&#8211;269

    Genetic Diagnosis of Hereditary Hemorrhagic Telangiectasia: Four Novel Pathogenic Variations in Turkish Patients

    Aims: Hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia is an autosomal dominant disorder characterized by telangiectasia, epistaxis, and vascular malformations. Pathogenic mutations were found in ENG, AVCRL1, SMAD4, and GDF genes. In this study, we present our database of patients with hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia regarding the phenotype-genotype relations and discuss two novel ENG gene pathogenic variations in two unrelated families. Methods: Next Generation Sequencing analysis was performed on the peripheral blood of nine patients with hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia in four unrelated families. All patients were diagnosed with hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia according to the Curaçao criteria. Data on treatment and screenings of visceral involvement were recorded from files. Results: We have found a pathogenic variation in either the ENG or ACVRL1 gene in each family. Two novel pathogenic variations in the ENG gene, including NM_000118.3 (ENG): c.416delC (p.P139fs*24) and NM_000118.3(ENG): c.1139dupT (p.Leu380PhefsTer16), were found in the same family. The NM_000020.2(ACVRL1): c.1298C>T (p.Pro433Leu) pathogenic variation in the ACVRL1 gene in our first family and a novel heterozygous likely pathogenic NM_000020.2(ACVRL1): c.95T>C (p.Val32Ala) variation was found in our second family. Seven of the nine patients were treated with thalidomide for controlling bleeding episodes. All patients responded to thalidomide. In one patient, the response to thalidomide was lost and switched to bevacizumab. Conclusion: In hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia, certain types of mutations correlate with disease phenotypes and with next generation sequencing methods. New pathogenic variations can be revealed, which might help manage patients with hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasi

    CD11b Expression in Acute Myeloid Leukemia is Associated With Hemostatic Complications and Response to Treatment

    Aim:In our study, we aimed to investigate the effects of CD11b expression on myeloblasts on clinical course and prognosis in patients with AML.Materials and Methods:Data of 123 patients diagnosed with AML between 2014-2017 in Trakya University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Hematology, a tertiary referral hospital in the Trakya Region, were evaluated in a retrospective manner. The diagnosis of AML was based on WHO 2016 criteria of Myeloid Neoplasms.Results:Of the 123 patients in our study, 60 were female, and 63 were male. The mean age was 57.93 years. CD11b positivity was observed in 40 patients. Platelet counts were significantly lower in patients with CD11b positivity (p = 0.004). Likewise, D-dimer levels at presentation were higher in the CD11b positive patient group (p = 0.000). Regarding outcomes, patients with CD11b positivity were found to have lower rates of remission with first-line remission induction therapy (p = 0.003). There was no significant relationship between CD11b positivity and overall survival with Kaplan Meier survival analysis (8.5 months in CD 11b positive group, 12.1 months in negative group, p: 0.436).Conclusion:Our study demonstrated that patients with CD11b expression had lower remission rates with remission induction chemotherapy

    The production of Z bosons associated with jets is measured in pp\text {p}\text {p} collisions at s=13 TeV\sqrt{s}=13\,\text {Te}\hspace{-.08em}\text {V} with data recorded with the CMS experiment at the LHC corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 36.3 fb−1\,\text {fb}^{-1}. The multiplicity of jets with transverse momentum pT>30 GeVp_{\textrm{T}} > 30\,\text {Ge}\hspace{-.08em}\text {V} is measured for different regions of the Z boson’s pT(Z )p_{\textrm{T}} (\text {Z }), from lower than 10 GeV\,\text {Ge}\hspace{-.08em}\text {V} to higher than 100 GeV\,\text {Ge}\hspace{-.08em}\text {V}. The azimuthal correlation Δϕ\varDelta \phi between the Z boson and the leading jet, as well as the correlations between the two leading jets are measured in three regions of pT(Z )p_{\textrm{T}} (\text {Z }). The measurements are compared with several predictions at leading and next-to-leading orders, interfaced with parton showers. Predictions based on transverse-momentum dependent parton distributions and corresponding parton showers give a good description of the measurement in the regions where multiple parton interactions and higher jet multiplicities are not important. The effects of multiple parton interactions are shown to be important to correctly describe the measured spectra in the low pT(Z )p_{\textrm{T}} (\text {Z }) regions

    A search for the direct production of a pair of ττ sleptons, the supersymmetric partners of ττ leptons, is presented. Each ττ slepton is assumed to decay to a ττ lepton and the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP), which is assumed to be stable and to not interact in the detector, leading to an imbalance in the total reconstructed transverse momentum. The search is carried out in events identified as containing two ττ leptons, each decaying to one or more hadrons and a neutrino, and significant transverse momentum imbalance. In addition to scenarios in which the ττ sleptons decay promptly, the search also addresses scenarios in which the ττ sleptons have sufficiently long lifetimes to give rise to nonprompt ττ leptons. The data were collected in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV at the CERN LHC with the CMS detector in 2016–2018, and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 138 fb−1^{-1}. No significant excess is seen with respect to standard model expectations. Upper limits on cross sections for the pair production of ττ sleptons are obtained in the framework of simplified models. In a scenario in which the ττ sleptons are superpartners of left-handed ττ leptons, and each undergoes a prompt decay to a ττ lepton and a nearly massless LSP, ττ slepton masses between 115 and 340 GeV are excluded. In a scenario in which the lifetime of the ττ sleptons corresponds to cτ0cτ_0 = 0.1 mm, where τ0τ_0 represents the mean proper lifetime of the ττ slepton, masses between 150 and 220 GeV are excluded

    A search is reported for pairs of light Higgs bosons (H1{\textrm{H}} _1) produced in supersymmetric cascade decays in final states with small missing transverse momentum. A data set of LHC pp\hbox {pp} collisions collected with the CMS detector at s=13 TeV\sqrt{s}=13\,\text {TeV} and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 138 fb−1\,\text {fb}^{-1} is used. The search targets events where both H1{\textrm{H}} _1 bosons decay into pairs that are reconstructed as large-radius jets using substructure techniques. No evidence is found for an excess of events beyond the background expectations of the standard model (SM). Results from the search are interpreted in the next-to-minimal supersymmetric extension of the SM, where a “singlino” of small mass leads to squark and gluino cascade decays that can predominantly end in a highly Lorentz-boosted singlet-like H1{\textrm{H}} _1 and a singlino-like neutralino of small transverse momentum. Upper limits are set on the product of the squark or gluino pair production cross section and the square of the branching fraction of the H1{\textrm{H}} _1 in a benchmark model containing almost mass-degenerate gluinos and light-flavour squarks. Under the assumption of an SM-like branching fraction, H1{\textrm{H}} _1 bosons with masses in the range 40–120 GeV\,\text {GeV} arising from the decays of squarks or gluinos with a mass of 1200–2500 GeV\,\text {GeV} are excluded at 95% confidence level

    Search for CP violation using tt‟ \textrm{t}\overline{\textrm{t}} events in the lepton+jets channel in pp collisions at s \sqrt{s} = 13 TeV

    Results are presented on a search for CP violation in the production and decay of top quark-antiquark pairs in the lepton+jets channel. The search is based on data from proton-proton collisions at s \sqrt{s} = 13 TeV, collected with the CMS detector, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 138 fb−1^{−1}. Possible CP violation effects are evaluated by measuring asymmetries in observables constructed from linearly independent four-momentum vectors of the final-state particles. The dimensionless chromoelectric dipole moment of the top quark obtained from the observed asymmetries is measured to be 0.04 ± 0.10 (stat) ± 0.07(syst), and the asymmetries exhibit no evidence for CP-violating effects, consistent with expectations from the standard model.[graphic not available: see fulltext

    Search for Higgs boson decays to a Z boson and a photon in proton-proton collisions at s \sqrt{s} = 13 TeV

    Results are presented from a search for the Higgs boson decay H→\toZÎł\gamma, where Z→ℓ+ℓ−\to\ell^+\ell^- with ℓ\ell = e or ÎŒ\mu. The search is performed using a sample of proton-proton (pp) collision data at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, recorded by the CMS experiment at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 138 fb−1^{-1}. Events are assigned to mutually exclusive categories, which exploit differences in both event topology and kinematics of distinct Higgs production mechanisms to enhance signal sensitivity. The signal strength ÎŒ\mu, defined as the product of the cross section and the branching fraction [σ(\sigma(pp→\toH)B()\mathcal{B}(H→\toZÎł)\gamma)] relative to the standard model prediction, is extracted from a simultaneous fit to the ℓ+ℓ−γ\ell^+\ell^-\gamma invariant mass distributions in all categories and is found to be ÎŒ\mu=2.4±\pm0.9 for a Higgs boson mass of 125.38 GeV. The statistical significance of the observed excess of events is 2.7 standard deviations. This measurement corresponds to σ(\sigma(pp→\toH)B()\mathcal{B}(H→\toZÎł)\gamma) = 0.21±\pm0.08 pb. The observed (expected) upper limit at 95% confidence level on ÎŒ\mu is 4.1 (1.8). The ratio of branching fractions B(\mathcal{B}(H→\toZÎł)/B(\gamma)/\mathcal{B}(H→γγ)\to\gamma\gamma) is measured to be 1.5−0.6+0.7^{+0.7}_{-0.6}, which agrees with the standard model prediction of 0.69 ±\pm 0.04 at the 1.5 standard deviation level
