Erken Başlangıçlı Yenidoğan Sepsisinde CRP ve Prokalsitonin’in Tanısal Güvenilirliği ve Fetal Distresin Etkisi
Aim: The studies in neonates suggest that C-reactive protein (CRP) and procalcitonin (PCT) can be used as a reliable marker for both diagnosis and follow-up of neonatal sepsis. However, their serum levels may also increase in some conditions without infection. The aim of this study was to determine and compare the effects of fetal distress, postnatal physiological factors and sepsis on serum levels of CRP and PCT. Materials and Methods: A total of 88 infants were included in this study. Before initiating therapy, blood samples for whole blood count, CRP, PCT and culture were obtained from all neonates (T0). This procedure was repeated two times at 72 h (T3) and day 7 (T7) Results: The group that included infants with clinical and laboratory findings of sepsis considered as a sepsis group (Group 1) and the groups with and without fetal distress were combined as a control group (Group 2+Group 3), so CRP and PCT were evaluated in terms of the sensitivity and specificity. The sensitivity and specificity at T0 were found to be 82%, 86% for CRP and 64%, 49% for PCT, respectively. Additionally, when the healthy term infants without fetal distress were considered as a control group; the sensitivity and specificity at T0 were found to be 82%, 93% for CRP and 71%, 47% for PCT, respectively. Conclusion: Consequently, we found that PCT and CRP levels are affected by fetal distress as well as physiological increase after birth. However, we found that their effects was greater on the PCT levels.
Spinning cosmic strings: a general class of solutions
In this work, we give a general class of solutions of the spinning cosmic
string in Einstein's theory of gravity. After treating same problem in Einstein
Cartan (EC) theory of gravity, the exact solution satisfying both exterior and
interior space-times representing a spin fluid moving along the symmetry axis
is presented in the EC theory. The existence of closed timelike curves in this
spacetime are also examined
An elementary optical gate for expanding entanglement web
We introduce an elementary optical gate for expanding polarization entangled
W states, in which every pair of photons are entangled alike. The gate is
composed of a pair of 50:50 beamsplitters and ancillary photons in the
two-photon Fock state. By seeding one of the photons in an -photon W state
into this gate, we obtain an -photon W state after post-selection. This
gate gives a better efficiency and a simpler implementation than previous
proposals for -state preparation.Comment: 5 pages, 2 figures. To appear in Phys. Rev.
Exact metric around a wiggly cosmic string
The exact metric around a wiggly cosmic string is found by modifying the
energy momentum-tensor of a straight infinitely thin cosmic string to include
an electric current along the symmetry axis.Comment: 5 page
Demonstration of local expansion toward large-scale entangled webs
We demonstrate an optical gate that increases the size of polarization-based
W states by accessing only one of the qubits. Using this gate, we have
generated three-photon and four-photon W states with fidelities and , respectively. We also confirmed existence of pairwise
entanglement in every pair of the qubits including the one that was left
untouched by the gate. The gate is applicable to any size of W states and hence
is a universal tool for expanding entanglement.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figure

Background and Design: Psoriasis is a chronic, inflammatory disease that occurs with polygenic and other triggering factors. The association of psoriasis, which is considered to be a systemic disease, with other diseases, such as cardiovascular diseases, hepatosteatosis, obesity, diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia has been shown. Materials and Methods: In this study, we compared the levels of fasting blood glucose, serum lipid (total cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, triglyceride), basal insulin, insulin resistance and body mass index as well as cigarette and alcohol consumption in 50 adult patients with those in 50 age- and gender-matched non-psoriatic controls. Results: In our study, metabolic syndrome was present in 62% patients with psoriasis, compared with 24% of the controls (p<0,001). In psoriatic patients with metabolic syndrome PASI median value was 13,6, whereas patients without metabolic syndrome PASI median value was 11,2 and the difference was statistically significant (p<0,001). Conclusion: In our study, the frequency of metabolic syndrome and its components diabetes mellitus, obesity, hypertension, and dyslipidemia were found to be higher in patients with psoriasis compared to that in non-psoriatic controls
