Enhanced electro-optic modulation of LiNbO3-based photonic crystal cavities with dual mode and polarization operation

A high output transmission and high quality factor, compact LiNbO3 -based Fabry-Perot-type photonic crystal cavity is reported that can be used in electro-optical modulators at optical communication wavelengths. The electro-optic effect is 123 times enhanced as compared to the bulk material as a result of the slow light effect. The transmission wavelength is found to depend linearly on the applied voltage with 1.2 nm/V modulation sensitivity. Moreover, an externally switchable dual mode regime with high quality factors and transmissions is realized. High transmissions and high quality factors are also obtained for both transverse-electric and transverse-magnetic polarizations simultaneously. © 2017 TÜBITAK

Validation through comparison: Measurement and calculation of the bistatic radar cross section of a stealth target

    Get PDF
Bistatic radar cross section (BRCS) values of a stealth airborne target are predicted by performing both scaled-model measurements and numerical simulations. In order to achieve the solution of large-scale electromagnetic problems in the numerical simulation environment, the fast multipole method (FMM) is implemented and used. The FMM has produced remarkably accurate results, in addition to its efficiency. The efficiency of the FMM is due to its reduced computational complexity and memory requirement, which are both O(N1.5). Comparison of the measured and computed BRCS values has resulted in a striking agreement, which serves to validate both of the prediction techniques

In vitro testing for genotoxicity of 4-CPA by sister chromatid exchange in human lymphocyte culture

Certain phenoxyacetate derivatives used as plant growth regulators act as plant hormones. 2,4-D dichlorophenoxyacetic acid and 4-chlorophenoxyacetic acid are widely used in vegetable growing, especially tomatoes, in our region. These phenoxyacetic acid compounds are a potential hazard for the environment. There are conflicting results and inconsistent data about these herbicides in the literature. This is the first report of genotoxicity of 4-CPA evaluated by sister chromatid exchange in human lymphocyte culture. No significant change was found in sister chromatid exchange frequency at the tested 4-CPA concentration

Beta-thalassemia mutations in Denizli province of Turkey

    Get PDF
Beta-thalassemia is one of the most common genetic disorders in Turkey as well as in several other Mediterranean countries presenting microcytosis and hemolytic anemia. The city of Denizli is located in the inner part of the Aegean geographical region of Turkey. The beta-thalassemia incidence in Denizli province is in between 2.6-3.7% reported by different researchers. According to our results; the IVS-1/nt-110 (G>A) is the most frequent mutation type in our province the same as other geographical regions of Turkey. Here we report also two HbD-Los Angeles/beta-thalassemia combinations, which are HbD-Los Angeles/codon 39 (C>T) and HbD-Los Angeles/IVS-1/nt-1 (G>A), respectively. In conclusion, our preliminary results show the heterogeneity of the beta-thalassemia mutations in the province of Denizli

Ornithogalum beyazoglui Y.Baǧci{dotless}, Savran & O. D. Düşen sp. nov. (Hyacinthaceae), a new species is described and illustrated from İzmir, Ödemiş, Bozdaǧ (İzmir, Ödemiş province). Diagnostic morphological characters are discussed, including SEM examination of seed coat surface. Data are also presented on ecology, biogeography and conservation status of the new species. © 2011 Bangladesh Association of Plant Taxonomists
