    The Relationships among Mortality Rates, Income and Educational Inequality in Terms of Economic Growth: A Comparison between Turkey and the Euro Area

    This study focuses on the relationships among mortality rates, income and educational inequality in terms of economic growth to investigate similarities and differences between the Euro Area and Turkey. For this purpose, income gini as an indicator of income inequality and education gini as an indicator of education inequality are used in the analyses. The relations among the variables are examined with panel data analysis for the Euro Area and with time series analysis for Turkey by using these coefficients and mortality rates for the period of 1980 and 2006. The results show that access to education is more important than the others for Turkey and the Euro Area.     Bu çalışmanın temel amacı Kemalist modernleşme sürecinin niteliğini tartışmaktır. Bu doğrultuda makale öncelikle Tanzimat döneminden itibaren Osmanlı İmparatorluğunda gözlenen siyasi değişikliklerin Türk modernleşmesindeki yerinin ve anlamının üzerinde duracaktır. Daha sonra ise Kemalist modernleşme sürecinin ve Cumhuriyetin Osmanlının bir devamı olup olmadığı temel sorunsalına ayrıntılı biçimde değinilecektir. Tüm bu tartışmalarla bağlantı olarak son olarak ise Türk modernleşmesinin kendine özgü bir yapısı olduğu sonucuna varılarak erken Cumhuriyet dönemindeki Kemalist modernleşme sürecine dair yapılan eleştirilere değinilerek Kemalist modernleşmenin günümüzdeki etkileri tartışılacaktır.The main purpose of this work is to discuss the nature of the Kemalist modernization process. In this respect, the article will primarily focus on the place and the meaning of the political changes observed in the Ottoman Empire since the Tanzimat period in Turkish modernization. Later on, the basic problem of Kemalist modernization and whether the Republic is a continuation of the Ottoman Empire will be elaborated. Finally, in connection with all these discussions, it is concluded that Turkish modernization has its own unique structure and the contemporary effects of the Kemalist modernization will be discussed by referring to the criticisms of the Kemalist modernization process in the early Republican period

Başlangıç eğriliğe sahip lifler ve levhalarla güçlendirilmiş kompozitler eğrisel yapıya sahip kompozitler olarak adlandırılır. Genellikle, eğrilikli olarak dizayn edilen kompozit malzemeler periyodik eğrilikli, teknolojik işlemler sırasında oluşan eğrilikler ise yerel eğrilikli kompozitler olarak modellenir. Üretilen kompozit malzemelerin uygulamada başarıyla kullanılması, sözü edilen bu eğriliği hesaba katarak bu malzemedeki gerilme–şekil değiştirme durumunun belirlenmesine de bağlıdır [1]. Ancak tek yönlü lifli kompozit malzemeler geleneksel malzemelerdir. Günümüzde dünya hızla nanoteknoloji konusunda çalışmakta ve gerekli araştırmaların yapılabilmesi için bu konuda ciddi yatırımlar yapılmaktadır. Dolayısıyla, nanokompozit malzemelerin (örneğin nanotüpler) önemi hızla artmaktadır. Bu çalışmada sonsuz ortamda düşük yoğunluklu sonsuz uzunluklu yerel eğrilikli tek bir karbon nanotüp içermesi durumu ele alınmış ve gerilme dağılımına geometrik nonlineeritenin etkisi incelenmiştir. Bu çalışmalar parçalı homojen cisim modeli çerçevesinde elastisite teorisinin üç boyutlu kesin geometrik nonlineer denklemleri kullanılarak yapılmıştır.One of the most important structural properties of unidirectional fiber composites is the curvature of the fibers. Fibers having initial curvature and composites reinforced with plates are called curvilinear composites Generally, designed as a curved composite materials periodic curvature, the curvature formed during technological processes are modeled as local curvature composites. The successful use of application of the produced composite material, said curvature to account for this depends on the determination of the stress-strain conditions of this material [1]. However, unidirectional fiber composite materials are conventional materials. Today, the world has begun to work rapidly and make significant investments in nanotechnology in order to do the necessary research on this issue. Thus, the nanocomposite materials (e.g., nanotubes) have rapidly increasing importance. In this study the stress distribution is studied when the body is loaded at infinity by uniformly distributed normal forces with intensity p acting in the carbon nanotubes laying direction. The investigation is carried out in the framework of the piecewise-homogeneous body model with the use of the three-dimensional geometrical non-linear exact equations of the theory of elasticity

Dinamik analizde problem, standart özdeğer problemine indirgenerek sıkıştırılmış kütle matrisi formülasyonunu esas alan karışık sonlu eleman yöntemi ile incelenmiştir. İki noda sahip dairesel çubuk eleman kullanılmıştır. Dairesel çubukta her eleman, bir eğilme ve bir burulma momenti, bir kesme kuvveti, iki dönme ve bir yerdeğiştirme olmak üzere (2×6) serbest derecesine sahiptir.In this study, using Gâteaux differantial a functional is obtained for out-of-plane free vibrations of beam elements with rectangular cross sections. In dynamic analysis, the problem reduces to the solution of a standart eigenvalue problem and the mixed finite element is based upon a consistent mass matrix formulation. The circular beam element which have two nodes have been used. For circular beam, the element have one bending and one twisting moments, one shear force, two rotations and one displacement (2×6 DOF)

    A Research on Community Development and Women Entrepreneurship

    Although Turkish economy system was based on a patriarchal community for a long time, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, founder of Modern Turkish Republic, has been promoted innovative policies for female citizens to incorporate them into social and economic life. Thanks to those policies, crucial changes have emerged especially for well-educated and cultivated ''urban women''. In this respect, conventional social construct and economic system have been a burden for some of those ''urban women''. They both took care of their families and joined the economic system and raised their career expectations. In recent years, there are some entrepreneurship curriculums and financial support projects has been launched for women who would like to take an active role in business life. Those projects provide opportunity for Turkish women to create their own business instead of working as employees. First of all, literature review on ''community development'' and ''women entrepreneurship'' was conducted in this study. Those issues considered as not only an economic issue but also social and psychological behavioral processes usually by using macro-sociological analysis method. Secondly, an empirical research performed in Denizli province, in which considerable economic moves have been realized in recent years. In this context, qualifications of women entrepreneurs who set up a business afterwards of financial and educational supports of governmental and non-governmental organizations such as Denizli Chamber of Commerce, Denizli Entrepreneurial Association, Association of Eurasian Executives and Businessmen were introduced.     Fen bilimleri öğretmenleri ve öğretmen adaylarına yönelik akıl yürütme becerileri testi’nin geliştirilmesi

    The aim of this study is to develop a multiple choice test for determining inservice and preservice science teachers’ scientific reasoning skill levels which are frequently used in science lessons. This study is in survey model which is one of quantitative research methods. During test development process, existing multiple choice tests about scientific reasoning skills and sample questions were examined. Content validity of prepared pilot question form which consisted of 37 items at the beginning was provided via expert opinions. After completing the revisions, pilot form was implemented to 481 preservice science teachers studying at three different state universities and 48 in service science teachers working at various middle schools. After that, obtained data were subjected to item analysis and tetrachoric correlation based on exploratory factor analysis for construct validity respectively. Ten questions which have lower discrimination indexes than .30 were removed from the test at the end of item analysis. The final form of the test which is moderately difficult (p=0,523) and has high level of dicrimination (r jx =0,480) consisted of 27 items. KR-20 reliability coefficient of the test was found as .812. As a result of construct validity, it was determined that all items whose factor loadings change between .24 and .77 are under one factor. The findings of test development process showed that developed Scientific Reasoning Skills Test can be used as a valid and reliable measurement tool. © 2018, Ankara University. All rights reserved
