Assessment of the Globalization and Local Development Relationship in Terms of Political Risk Factors

    No full text
Today, globalization is an important factor affecting every aspect of life. Local development, on the other hand, is a concept aimed at progressing in the political, socio-economic and cultural field at the local level, which is the process of decision-making from the bottom up. It can be said that the effects of globalization on local development have changed both from country to country and from region to region. Globalization process develops mutual cooperation between countries in economic, cultural and social fields. This cooperation provides positive contributions to the local development process. Local development requires cooperation with both global actors and local actors. Local development is a concept that aims to promote the development of local communities in accordance with the principles of sustainable development in economic, social, cultural, physical and political contexts by activating local dynamics. Local development is motivated by local actors, although it is expressed as using countries’ own local potentials to mobilize local dynamics and are exposed to global effects. Developing countries are evaluating their local potential to ensure their development. Due to the globalization, it is seen that local development has become the foreground with the participation of local, regional, national and international powers. The emergence of local development has brought about changes in the identification and implementation of local development policies. Now, states place more emphasis on local development and are increasing the authority of local governments in this direction. Today, it can be said that the concept of development is multifaceted as self-sustainable growth, structural change in the form of production, technological innovation, social political and institutional innovation and improvement in people’s living standards. Local development can not be handled independently from globalization, it can not be achieved with only local dynamics. Local development has political risk factors based on international, national and local actors. Political risks are not homogeneous in all countries. The World Political Risk Report is a comprehensive review of the political risk, political risks, transfer and convertibility, expropriation, breach of contract, abuse of sovereignty rights and financial risks, terrorism, war, civil disturbance, governmental power, government and opposition power balance, law system, local instability, economic climate, and other negative regulatory changes. The political risk factors mentioned in this study will be evaluated in terms of the relationship between globalization and local development. © 2018, Springer International Publishing AG, part of Springer Nature

PubMed:31596391Herbal medicines are efficient to reduce side effects in the fight against glioblastoma, which plays a critical role within brain cancer species. The recent studies designated for testing the effects of lichens that have shown numerous anticancer activities on glioblastoma so far. In the present study, different concentrations of water extract obtained from Usnea longissima Ach. were used in order to determine cytotoxic (via 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide and lactate dehydrogenase tests), antioxidant (via total antioxidant capacity test), pro-oxidant (via total oxidant status test) and genotoxic (via 8-hydroxy-2?-deoxyguanosine test) effects of them on human U87MG-glioblastoma cancer cell lines. Primary mixed glial-neuronal non-cancerous cells from Sprague-Dawley rats were also utilized to measure the effects of treatments on non-cancerous cells. Based on median inhibitory concentration values, the data belonged to non-cancerous cells (2486.71 mg/L) showed distinct towering compared to U87MG (80.93 mg/L) cells. The viability of non-cancerous and U87MG cells exposed to extract is decreased in a dose dependent manner. It was also showed that low concentrations of extract notably increased total antioxidant capacity on non-cancerous cells. In addition, various phenolic compounds in extract were detected through high-performance liquid chromatography. The recent results encourage that extract will be able to have therapeutic potential against glioblastoma

A personal navigation system using mems-based high-density ground reaction sensor array and inertial measurement unit

Due to copyright restrictions, the access to the full text of this article is only available via subscription. This paper describes a prototype personal navigation system developed for position tracking under GPS denied environments by employing a commercial inertial measurement unit (IMU) and a MEMS-based ground reaction sensor array (GRSA). The GRSA is used to provide zero-velocity updating for the IMU. A Kalman filter further estimates the IMU output bias during the zero-velocity period, which is then removed from the IMU's subsequent output signals to improve the navigation accuracy. Seven 10-minute square-loop walking tests were performed to achieve an in-plane navigation accuracy ranging from 0.4 meter to 3.4 meter with a vertical position accuracy of approximately 1 meter. A further improved performance over an extended navigation time is expected through enhancing the GRSA sensitivity.Utah Science Technology and Research initiative (USTAR
