Molecular Gas, Dust and Star Formation in Galaxies: II. Dust properties and scalings in \sim\ 1600 nearby galaxies

We aim to characterize the relationship between dust properties. We also aim to provide equations to estimate accurate dust properties from limited observational datasets. We assemble a sample of 1,630 nearby (z<0.1) galaxies-over a large range of Mstar, SFR - with multi-wavelength observations available from wise, iras, planck and/or SCUBA. The characterization of dust emission comes from SED fitting using Draine & Li dust models, which we parametrize using two components (warm and cold ). The subsample of these galaxies with global measurements of CO and/or HI are used to explore the molecular and/or atomic gas content of the galaxies. The total Lir, Mdust and dust temperature of the cold component (Tc) form a plane that we refer to as the dust plane. A galaxy's sSFR drives its position on the dust plane: starburst galaxies show higher Lir, Mdust and Tc compared to Main Sequence and passive galaxies. Starburst galaxies also show higher specific Mdust (Mdust/Mstar) and specific Mgas (Mgas/Mstar). The Mdust is more closely correlated with the total Mgas (atomic plus molecular) than with the individual components. Our multi wavelength data allows us to define several equations to estimate Lir, Mdust and Tc from one or two monochromatic luminosities in the infrared and/or sub-millimeter. We estimate the dust mass and infrared luminosity from a single monochromatic luminosity within the R-J tail of the dust emission, with errors of 0.12 and 0.20dex, respectively. These errors are reduced to 0.05 and 0.10 dex, respectively, if the Tc is used. The Mdust is correlated with the total Mism (Mism \propto Mdust^0.7). For galaxies with Mstar 8.5<log(Mstar/Msun) < 11.9, the conversion factor \alpha_850mum shows a large scatter (rms=0.29dex). The SF mode of a galaxy shows a correlation with both the Mgass and Mdust: high Mdust/Mstar galaxies are gas-rich and show the highest SFRs.Comment: 24 pages, 28 figures, 6 tables, Accepted for publication in A&

MPO-ANCA-Associated Necrotizing Glomerulonephritis in Rheumatoid Arthritis; a Case Report and Review of Literature

BACKGROUND: Renal involvement in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is common and has a negative impact on patient survival. Only few cases have been reported of necrotizing glomerulonephritis (GN) associated with myeloperoxidase anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (MPO-ANCA) in patients with RA. CASE PRESENTATION: We report a patient with RA who developed a necrotizing GN associated with ANCA-MPO, treated with rituximab (RTX). A 55-year-old man with a 27-year history of RA under secukinumab was referred to our nephrology clinic with worsening renal function associated with microhematuria and proteinuria. Our laboratory evaluation showed hypocomplementemia and positive titers for MPO-ANCA (615 U/mL). A renal biopsy demonstrated pauci-immune necrotizing GN. The patient was treated with 3 consecutive pulses of methylprednisolone followed by oral prednisolone (1 mg/Kg) and rituximab (1000 mg, repeated 14 days later). After a 10-month follow-up, the arthritis remains well-controlled, renal function stabilized, proteinuria improved and MPO-ANCA titer normalized (6.3 U/mL). CONCLUSIONS: Necrotizing GN is a rare but a serious condition and an early diagnosis is essential to treatment. This is the first case of necrotizing GN (without extra-renal manifestations of vasculitis) in a patient with active RA, successfully treated with RTX.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Functional respiratory re-education interventions in people with respiratory disease: a systematic literature review

Get PDF
Objectives: to identify nursing interventions in rehabilitation, within the scope of functional respiratory reeducation, which allow a respiratory function improvement in people with respiratory disease. Methods: systematic literature review using the MEDLINE database search, adopting the PICO mnemonic and the Joanna Briggs Institute’s assessment of the level of evidence and methodological quality. The search for randomized controlled trials was carried out in June 2021 considering the period from 2015 to 2020, in English or Portuguese. Results: a sample of nine randomized controlled trials with methodological quality was obtained which highlighted the use of positive expiratory pressure devices as an importantcomponent and intervention for respiratory functional reeducation. Conclusions: nursing interventions in rehabilitation with an emphasis on functional respiratory reeducation are essential, showing improvements in people’s general health

Improving performance by improving the relationship with the companies in the supply chain

This paper will address issues related to strategy, quality and management of customers and suppliers, and its main objective is to demonstrate the benefits of cooperation between customers and suppliers in the supply chain. A case is presented about a Brazilian company with assets in several sectors of the economy that implemented a program to reward the cooperation of its key suppliers and obtained several benefits with this program. Finally, it is concluded that issues such as identification of the real needs and expectations of stakeholders, the philosophy of quality at source, consolidation of the customer base and suppliers and cooperation between companies are key points for improving business performance, at every link in the supply chain

Processes proposal for the technology search, reception and analysis for the Intellectual Property management in a Technology Licensing Office from a brazilian Scientific and Technological Institution

In a Technology Licensing Office (TLO), which deals with issues considered to be complex, decision-making is a relevant factor and should be aligned with the Scientific and Technological Institution (STI) institutional and innovation strategy. To meet this need, the objective of this work is to present a process model for the admission of technologies based on Intellectual Property (IP) to a TLO, as a way to subsidize the elaboration of strategies and the decision making regarding the processes of protection and commercialization Of technologies, and thus leverage the transfer of the technologies invented or developed by an STI to a receiving organization, and, finally, to promote innovation. The process is called Admit Technology and is comprised of sub-processes Search Technology, Receive Technology, and Analyze Technology. This developed organizational process is composed of activities and tools with capabilities to make TLO more proactive and dynamic, both to seek new technologies developed in the STI Research and Development (R&D) units that can be appropriated through IP as well as to receive such technologies And to proceed with an in-depth analysis of its technical and commercial aspects and to indicate its main applications and markets where this technology should be protected and the marketing effort should be applied

Proposed Steps to Projects Development in the Public Sector

Public Policy and projects have been the subject of discussion in public organizations, with the argument that it organizations has resources, but there are no projects to invest. This research aims to suggest a step-by-step proposal to elaborate a project, based on a public policy, in a way that will improve public management, with specific results and contribute to the quality of life of citizens and society. In this research was analyzed the concepts of public management, public policy, programs and projects, which resulted in a logical, interrelated proposal, consisting of steps that comprise a step by step to elaborate project to a public policy. He sought the qualitative aspect and used the bibliographical research as methodology. Structuring the work in chapters organizing in introduction, theoretical survey and its analysis, proposed a step by step to elaborate project and concluded with the final considerations
