TASI 2006 Lectures on Leptogenesis

The origin of the asymmetry between matter and anti-matter of the Universe has been one of the great challenges in particle physics and cosmology. Leptogenesis as a mechanism for generating the cosmological baryon asymmetry of the Universe has gained significant interests ever since the advent of the evidence of non-zero neutrino masses. In these lectures presented at TASI 2006, I review various realizations of leptogenesis and allude to recent developments in this subject

Searching for Z′Z' bosons decaying to gluons

The production and decay of a new heavy vector boson, a chromophilic Z{prime} vector boson, is described. The chromophilic Z{prime} couples only to two gluons, but its two-body decays are absent, leading to a dominant decay mode of Z{prime} {yields} q{bar q}g. The unusual nature of the interaction predicts a cross-section which grows with m{sub Z{prime}} for a fixed coupling and an accompanying gluon with a coupling that rises with its energy. We study the t{bar t}g decay mode, proposing distinct reconstruction techniques for the observation of an excess and for the measurement of m{sub Z{prime}}. Report of the 2005 Snowmass Top/QCD Working Group

This report discusses several topics in both top quark physics and QCD at an International Linear Collider (ILC). Issues such as measurements at the $t\bar{t}$ threshold, including both theoretical and machine requirements, and the determination of electroweak top quark couplings, are reviewed. New results concerning the potential of a 500 GeV $e^+e^-$ collider for measuring $Wtb$ couplings and the top quark Yukawa coupling are presented. The status of higher order QCD corrections to jet production cross sections, heavy quark form factors, and longitudinal gauge boson scattering, needed for percent-level studies at the ILC, are reviewed. A new study of the measurement of the hadronic structure of the photon at a $\gamma\gamma$ collider is presented. The effects on top quark properties from several models of new physics, including composite models, Little Higgs theories, and CPT violation, are studied.Comment: 39 pages, many figs; typos fixed and refs added. Low scale seesaw, electron EDM and leptogenesis in a model with spontaneous CP violation

Strong correlations between leptogenesis and low energy CP violating leptonic processes have been shown by us to exist fin the minimal left-right symmetric model with spontaneous CP violation. In this note, they investigate the implications of this model for the electric dipole moment of the electron. With an additional broken U(1){sub H} symmetry, the seesaw scale can be lowered to close to the electroweak scale. This additional symmetry also makes the connection between CP violation in quark sector to that in the lepton sector possible
