    Personal Independence: The Hunger Games Novel By Suzanne Collins (2008): An Individual Psychological Approach

    This research is about how is personal independence of the major and minor characters reflected in The Hunger Games novel. The objective of this study is to analyze the novel based on the individual psychological approach. The type of this research is qualitative research. Type of data of the study is novel taken from two data sources: primary and secondary. The primary data source is The Hunger Games novel published in 2008. While the secondary data sources are other materials taken from books, author’s biography, essay, comments, critics and internet related to the study. Both data are collected by conducting library research and analyzed by descriptive analysis. Based on the individual psychology analysis, the study shows that the problem is faced by the major character is herown psychology condition to decide the appropriate ways for his life. Collins tells that the problem of the major character causes the personal independence of her social life because of her personality and causes some effect to inferiority feeling, striving to superiority, creative self, style of life, social interest, and functional finalism of the main character. The results of this analysis show that gender identity where Caroline make a crazy appointment with Braden and but part of sex education for Caroline. Suspicious is the feeling and it almost the same with jealousy. Caroline compares that Lady Jacquelyn is more beautiful than she is especially in body shape. Lady Caroline has large breast where larger than she is. The biological sex related to clothes that wear by Caroline. Caroline mention finding loose crystal bead on her skirt, it shows that the skirt become Caroline’s style and maybe also characteristic

The data collection technique of this research is library research by collecting data from objects that are relevant to the issue to be analyzed. The theory used as a reference is self affirmation. The results of this analysis are Hilary discovered that her husband make an affair with Catherine (his new secretary). David Parker had been talking and citing a woman’s name in his sleep. He is also comes across a restaurant receipt for a meal for two, when he was supposed to be out at a Rotary club dinner. Based on the defense mechanism as a self affirmation of Hilary, it can be found that she makes all related to the repression, projection, displacement, rationalisation, and reaction formation. In repression shows that, Hilary do everything to press her anxiety related to her husband affair. Projection, where Hilary tries to make an axcuse from the family reunion. Displacement, here Hilary wants to vent her emotion through the glass of whisky and the wall, because she knows that she can not do that on her husband.     The main discussion in this study is the problem that occurs in the community, namely about humanism. Due to the existence of something related to humans, and a philosophical thought that emphasizes the value and position of man and makes it a criterion in all things. The purpose of this study was to analyze Stephen King's The Green Mile novel based on structural elements and analyze this novel using a sociological approach with several aspects, namely social aspects, political aspects, cultural aspects, religious aspects and science and technology aspect. The researcher used qualitative methods. The researcher used two data sources: primary data and secondary data. The primary data source is the novel itself. And, secondary data sources are books on researching the sociology approach, references to The Green Mile from the internet, and other sources related to research. The method of data collection is by library research and data collection techniques are descriptive techniques. According to the analysis, researchers got several conclusions. First, research shows that there are phenomena concerning humanism that occur in The Green Mile novel by Stephen King. Humanism is very visible when there is fulfillment in aspects of humanism aspects, namely, Self-Actualization, Esteem Needs, Love and Belongingness Needs, Safety and Security Needs and Psychological Needs. Second, in the novel The Green Mile, Stephen King tries to give an understanding of American society in the mid-nineteenth century that highlights humanism and social influence in society. This phenomenon can be seen in the E Block environment where people judge that everyone has the right to help each other regardless of race, color and work

The objectives of the study are to identify characteristics of Four as a Survivor, Child abuse which has been experienced by Four and the reasons of Veronica Roth uses the survivor and child abuse issue. This research belongs to qualitative research. The primary data of this research is Divergent novel by Veronica Roth, while the secondary data of this research is other sources related to the study, such as: virtual sources and other printed materials that support this research. The researcher draws three conclusions in this research. First,the characteristics of Four as Survivor which are found in the novel are Adaptability, Looking beyond the Mistake, Ability to Stay Calm, Intuition, Not as an optimist of a pessimist,Will to Survive. Second, Child Abuse which are experienced by Four are physical abuse and childhood punisments.     This research is a study of Sparks’s The best of Me viewed from sociological perspective. The objectives of the research are to find out and explain the struggle of Dawson as the main character to reveal the significant meaning of Dawson’s struggle.This research is a qualitative study applying content analysis method. The object of this research is a novel entitled The Best of Me written by Nicholas Sparks in 2011 and the data are sentences related to Dawson’s struggle found in this novel. The data analysis was conducted by classifying and categorizing the data to find the inference. In order to gain reliability, the researcher read and reread the novel carefully and then recorded the data into a systematic framework based on the sociological theory.The result of this research indicate three points which causes family disintegration; The first point is education, second point is communication and the third point is family quarrel. It is depicted by the Dawson’s struggle in defending himself to accept the torture of his family without help from others and manage to escape from his home.     This study is aimed to reveal the discrimimation in The Divergent (2011) novel by Veronica Roth. The Divergent (2011) novel is analyzed by using Marxist approach. The analysis is done by determining two objects: the first is analyzing the novel based on the structural elements, and the second is analyzing the problem of discrimination by using Marxist approach. This research is a descriptive qualitative research. There are two types of data sources. The source of primary data is Veronica Roth’s The Divergent (2011) novel. The secondary data sources are from books, biography of the author, journals, and internet sources related to the study. The two kinds of data collected through library research and analyzed with descriptive analysis. Based on the research, the researcher draws the following conclusions. The first, the structural element of the novel described the character and characterization, setting of place and time, plot, point of view, and theme. It shapes into one unity in a novel story. The second, based on Marxist approach in dialectical, historical, class struggle, alienation, revolution and the social discrimination was revealed with other descriptions of Marxist the major character reflected in The Divergent (2011) novel.
