    Classroom Techniques Used In Vocabulary Development Activities In English Classroom: A Naturalistic Study At Mts Negeri Surakarta 2 In 2015/2016 Academic Year

    This study is carried out to describe classroom techniques used in vocabulary activities in English classroom at MTs Negeri Surakarta 2. The aims of this research are: (1) to describe the kinds of classroom techniques used in vocabulary activities, (2) the purpose of using each classroom technique, (3) the teacher’s roles, (4) the student’s roles, and (5) instructional materials used by the English teachers at MTs Negeri Surakarta 2. The kind of this research is descriptive qualitative research especially naturalistic study in analyzing the data. The methods of collecting data in this research are observation, interview and document. The finding of the study shows that there are some classroom techniques used by English teachers at MTs Negeri Surakarta 2 such as: memorization (vocabulary card system), synonym, selfdefining context, picture and drawing, antonym, and reading aloud. The teacher have roles as model, instructor, consultant, group organizer, evaluator, and facilitator. The student have roles as participant, demonstrate their knowledge and understanding, engage actively in learning, dialog and interaction with teacher, learner member group and learn by interacting with other, tutor for other learner, and shows respect. There are some materials used by English teachers, such as textbook, work book, dictionary, photocopy exercises, and powerpoint on LCD. The conclusion of this research is that English teacher at MTs Negeri Surakarta 2 used various classroom techniques which can improve the students’ ability. Various techniques can make the student interested in English teaching-learning process. It does not make the class monotonous. The students become more active and creative. Based on the result, apparently, classroom techniques used by the teacher have important role in the teaching-learning process

    The Contribution of Parent’s Role, Student’s Interest, and Classroom Learning Environment Toward Students’ Vocabulary Achievement at SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Sukoharjo in Academic Year of 2017-2018

    This research aims at knowing the contribution of parent’s role, student’s interest, and classroom learning environment toward students’ vocabulary achievement in the TKJ (Teknik Komputer Jaringan) program at tenth grade of SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Sukoharjo. The type of this research is associative quantitative research. The subjects of this research are 32 students in TKJ 2 (Teknik Komputer Jaringan) program at tenth grade of SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Sukoharjo. The researcher used random sampling to get the sample. The instrument of this research is questionnaire and test. The questionnaire sheets are deal with parent’s role, student’s interest, and classroom learning environment. And the test is deal with the student’s vocabulary achievement. The data analyzed using descriptive statistic, classic assumption tests, multiple regressions test, and hypothesis testing which includes t-test, f-test, coefficient of determination, predictor contributions. The result shows that Parent’s Role (X1) significance result is 0,438. The Student’s Interest (X2) significance result is 0,022. And the Classroom Learning Environment (X3) significance result is 0,041. So, it means that only two variable are positive and significant contribution toward student’s vocabulary achievement namely, student’s interest and classroom environment

    Equivalence Strategy Used In Translating The Hunger Games Novel Into Indonesian

    The aims of this research are to describe: (1) the linguistic form of equivalence strategy through addition, deletion and shift strategy in translation of the novel entitled The Hunger Games, (2) the dominant strategy used by the translator, (3) the equivalence and non—equivalence of the translation. The type of this research belongs to a descriptive qualitative research where the writer collects the data, arranges, classifies analyzes and concludes the result of the research. The writer uses comparison method which compares source language and target language which consists of equivalence strategy through addition, deletion and shift strategy in chapter 1 of The Hunger Games novel and its translation into Indonesian. The results of the research show that first, there are 109 data or 15,53% belong to addition strategy which containing 87 data or 12,39% of word, 18 data or 2,56% of phrase, 4 data or 0,57% of clause and 0 data or 0% of sentence. Meanwhile in the second strategy which is known as deletion strategy the researcher finds 114 data or 16,24% concludes of 97 data or 13,81% of word, 16 data or 2,28% of phrase, a datum or 0,14% of clause and there is 0 data or 0% of sentence. The last strategy which is called as shift strategy consists 419 data or 59,69% belong to 165 data or 23,50% of word, 180 data or 25,64% of phrase, 31 data or 4,415% of clause and 43 data or 6,125% of sentence. It means that there are more than one strategy in the sentence which used by the translator to achieve the equivalence in the translation of The Hunger Games novel that concludes word, phrase, clause and even sentence. Second, the dominant strategy used by the translator is shift strategy which has 419 data or 59,69%. Third, from the entirely 702 data there are 642 data or 91,45% belong to equivalence while 60 data or 8,55% belong to non—equivalence. As a result, the translation of the novel entitled The Hunger Games into Indonesian is excellent with grade A

    Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membuat materi ajar Bahasa Inggris yang sesuai dengan tujuan tertentu. Dalam hal ini materi ini diperuntukkan bagi mahasiswa semester 1 jurusan Teknologi Laboratorium Medik dengan menggunakan pendekatan pembelajaran menggunakan Task. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk meneliti kualitas buku ajar yang sebelumnya yang bernama Handout of English 1, untuk membuat perencanaan materi Bahasa Inggris yang sesuai dengan tujuan tertentu , dan menguji kualitas perencanaan materi Bahasa Inggris yang sesuai dengan tujuan tertenttu bagi mahasiswa jurusan Teknologi Laboratorium Medik. Penelitian ini termasuk jenis Riset dan Pengembangan. Obyek penelitiannya adalah buku Handout of English1 yang digunakan sebagai buku ajar untuk mahasiswa semester 1 jurusan Teknologi Laboratorium Medik. Dalam pengumpulan data, penulis meempuh cara observasi, kuesioner, wawancara, dan kajian dokumentasi. Mempresentasikan, meklasifikasikan, mendeskripsikan data, membuat kesimpulan, dan menampilkan implikasi merupakan metode dalam menganalisis data yang diperoleh. Adapun tiga tahapan yang dipakai dalam melaksanakan penelitian ini adalah explorasi, pembuatan, dan evaluasi. Temuan yang diperoleh dari penelitian ini adalah bahwa mahasiswa memang membutuhkan buku ajar Bahasa Inggris untuk tujuan khusus yang dapat memnuhi semua kebutuhan baik dari segi akademis maupun karir mereka sebagai teknisi laborat.     This research aims at describing the improving of students’ vocabulary using jumbled words to the fifth grade students of SDN 03 Mojo, Andong, Boyolali. The general objective of this research is to describe the improving students’ vocabulary by using jumbled words. While the specific objectives of this research are to know whether or not jumbled words can improve the students’ vocabulary, and to identify the strengths and weaknesses of teaching vocabulary using jumbled words to the fifth grade students of SDN 03 Mojo, Andong, Boyolali in 2011/2012 Academic Year. In this research, the writer uses Classroom Action Research (CAR). There are two cycles in this action research in which each cycle is conducted in two meetings. Each cycle of this action research consists of four steps: planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The research was held in the fifth grade of SDN 03 Mojo, Andong, Boyolali consisting of 20 students. In analyzing the data, the writer uses qualitative analysis from observation, test, interview, and document analysis. The result of research shows that jumbled words can improve students’ vocabulary. It can be seen from increasing mean score of pre-test and post-test. The pre-test is 59.1 and post-test is 86.5, the improvement got by the students is 27.4. The strengths are the students can reduce their error possibility, more active, creative, more concentration and are not easily bored in English class. The weaknesses are the writer must spend her spare time at home to prepare material and design the classroom activity, and the writer should use both Indonesia and English language. Thus, it can be said that teaching English vocabulary using Jumbled Words technique is successful in improving the students’ vocabulary in SDN 03 Mojo, Andong, Boyolali

    Interlanguage Errors In Oral Narrative Made By Students Of Man I Boyolali

    The objective of this research are to describe the pronounciation errors, speech errors, lexical errors and grammatical errors,each types of errors, also find out the dominant and frequency each type of errors that occurance in oral narrative made by students of MAN I Boyolali. In this research, the writer uses a qualitative method. The object of this research is the second grade students of MAN I Boyolali. The subject are 55 students. The sources of the data are informant and documents. The collected errors are identified and classified using Chomsky and Hale theory, Clark and Clark theory, Selinker theory, Krasen and Burt and Linguist Category Taxonomy as a guideline. To describe the errors the writer uses Surface Strategy Taxonomy. The findings present the types of pronounciation errors, speech errors, lexical errors and grammatical errors, their detailed description, and frequency of occurence of types of errors. It is wished that this study may give a new perspective in advanced learners’pronounciation errors, speech errors, lexical errors and grammatical errors. The result of this research shows that there are twenty four types of errors: 228 vowel errors or 41,30℅, 61 to be present or 11,05℅, 47 verb in past tense or 8,51℅, 29 repeats or 5,25℅, 27 bound morpheme ‘ed’ or 4,89℅, 25 silent pause or 4,53℅, 19 consonant error or 3,44℅, 18 correction or 3,26℅, 17 plural marker {-s} or 3,08℅, 15 stutter or 2,72℅ , 15 adjective form or 2,72℅ , 14 lexical words or 2,36℅, 7 addition to or1,27℅,6 filled pause or 1,09℅, 6 modal auxiliary in negative form or 1,09℅, 3 auxiliary verb ‘did’or 0,54℅, 3 addition ‘ed’or 0,54℅, 3 article or 0,54℅, 2 interjection or 0,36℅, 1 slip of tongue or 0,18℅.     Error In Translating Indonesian Noun Phrases Into English Made By Second Semester Students Of English Education Department In Muhammadiyah University Of Surakarta 2014/2015 Academic Year

    The objectives of this study are clasify the types of errors, to identify the frequency of errors, and to explain the sources of errors made by students in their translating Indonesian noun phrases made by second semester students of English Education Department in Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta 2014/2015 Academic Year. This research is descriptive qualitative research. The methods of collecting data are observation, interviewing, and document collection and elicitation method. In techniques for analyzing data are identifying the errors from the students’ answer sheet, classifying errors, describing errors based on their type, analyzing the students’ errors, and drawing conclusion. The results of the analysis show that second semester students of English Education Department in Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta 2014/2015 Academic Year still make 326 errors in their composition. She finds that from 746 data, there are two classifications of error based on the combination of linguistic category and surface strategy taxonomy. They are lexicals error consists of 64 errors. The errors classified into three errors, there are misselection 14, 92%, the use of indonesian words 2, 45%, and wrong spelling 2, 14%. The second is grammar error consists of 262 errors. The error classified into six errors, they are missordering 20, 85%, combination of V1+N instead of V ing + noun 9,5%, combination of N+N instead of N+Ving 14,41%, combination of N+N instead of V3+N 11,96%, combination of N+N instead of N+V3 13, 80%, and combination of N+N instead of N+preposition+N 9, 81%

Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta. 2015. This research studies the linguistic forms, types of directive speech act and the intention of directive speech act. The object of this research is the directive speech act in the movie The Legend of Hercules. The type of this research is descriptive qualitative research. The data source of directive speech act in the movie The Legend of Hercules manuscript. In gathering data, the researcher uses observation and documentation methods. To answer the problem statements raise in this research. This researcher implements some theories. To classify the forms, the researcher uses the theory of Frank. To describe the type of the speech act, the researcher uses the theory of Levinson. To describe the intention, the researcher uses the theory of Searle. The result of this study shows that firstly, the most general linguistic form of directive speech act in the movie The Legend of Hercules manuscript is interrogative sentences (16 data or 57,6%), imperative sentences is (10 data or 30,3%), and declarative sentences is (7 data or 21,2%).     Learning Strategies Used By The Eighth Grade Olympic Class Students Of MTs Negeri Tanon In 2016/2017 Academic Year

    English has become compulsory subject in Indonesia. It is taught from Elementary up to university. All of the students must learn English in every part of the education level. Unfortunately, some of Indonesian students find it difficult to learn it. They need strategies to master English well. This study was conducted to obtain data on the type of learning strategies used by male and female of the Olympic class students in learning English. The Olympic class is a kind of class which the students are prepared in attending the competition outside the school. In order to get the data, the writer of the study designs a descriptive qualitative research. She chooses the male and the female of the eighth grade of the Olympic class students of MTs Negeri Tanon as the subject of the study. Moreover, to get the data completely and accurately, the writer takes them from interview, questionnaire of SILL, documentation, and observation. Then the writer used oxford language learning strategy to classify the data. The result of the study shows that both of the male and female of the eighth grade of the Olympic class students used the all type of learning strategies proposed by Oxford. They are applied all the strategies of memory strategy, cognitive strategy, compensation strategy, meta-cognitive strategy, affective strategy and social strategy. But there are differences in the frequency of the using, and the preference of the using. The female likes to use the strategy from higher to lower: metacognitive, compensation, cognitive, affective, memory, and social strategy. While the male of the eighth grade of the Olympic class from higher and lower: metacognitive, cognitive, affective, compensation, memory, and social strategy. Hopefully, the research finding can be used by the teacher to give knowledge about learning strategies and the students to use the appropriate learning strategies so that they will enjoy learning English, and as the result they will get the best achievement in English

    Politeness strategies of the Request Found in Mirror-Mirror: Snow White movie (2012)

    Politeness is closed with interaction among the people. It is usually also call “polite social behaviour” or etiquette, within a culture. It means that politeness is cannot be same each country or place. This study is focused on politeness strategy of request, because it is the based on the social relationship communication. This research investigates the politeness strategies of the requests found in Mirror-Mirror: Snow White Movie. Descriptive qualitative research used by method’s researcher. The data source of this research form scripts of the movie. The researcher used techniques in collecting data by documentation. Then, the researcher was coding the data of his research. The data of politeness strategies used by three groups were coded with serial number, types of politeness strategies, pragmalinguistic features, and the factors contribute to choosing politeness strategies. The results are four types of politeness strategies, they are bald on record, positive politeness, negative politeness and off record. The pragmalinguistic features of request consist of internal modification and external modifications. The factors contribute in choosing politeness strategies are consist of the payoffs as a priori consideration and the circumtances as sociological variables
