Interferometry of direct photons in Pb+Pb collisions at 158 AGeV
We present final results from the WA98 experiment which provide first
measurements of Bose-Einstein correlations of direct photons in
ultrarelativistic heavy ion collisions. Invariant interferometric radii were
extracted in the range MeV/c and compared to interferometric
radii of charged pions. The yield of direct photons for MeV/c was
extracted from the correlation strength parameter and compared to the yield of
direct photons measured in WA98 at higher with the statistical
subtraction method, and to predictions of a fireball model.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures, proceedings for Quark Matter 200

The PHENIX experiment at RHIC has measured transverse energy and charged
particle multiplicity at mid-rapidity in Au + Au collisions at
= 19.6, 130, 62.4 and 200 GeV as a function of centrality. The presented
results are compared to measurements from other RHIC experiments, and
experiments at lower energies. The dependence of
and per pair of participants is consistent with logarithmic
scaling for the most central events. The centrality dependence of
and is similar at all measured incident
energies. At RHIC energies the ratio of transverse energy per charged particle
was found independent of centrality and growing slowly with . A
survey of comparisons between the data and available theoretical models is also

Signatures of Quark-Gluon-Plasma formation in high energy heavy-ion collisions: A critical review
A critical review on signatures of Quark-Gluon-Plasma formation is given and
the current (1998) experimental status is discussed. After giving an
introduction to the properties of QCD matter in both, equilibrium- and
non-equilibrium theories, we focus on observables which may yield experimental
evidence for QGP formation. For each individual observable the discussion is
divided into three sections: first the connection between the respective
observable and QGP formation in terms of the underlying theoretical concepts is
given, then the relevant experimental results are reviewed and finally the
current status concerning the interpretation of both, theory and experiment, is
discussed. A comprehensive summary including an outlook towards RHIC is given
