    A critical factor in search, rescue or criminal investigation is time – specifically, the time needed to complete a big number of tasks that occur in any emergency. A critical asset in assisting disaster relief teams and public safety personnel in their mission to save lives and defend property loss is the access to resources data – location of personnel, emergency service resources, streets, buildings. The ability to locate resources, on foot or in vehicles, in relation to the local transportation infrastructure in a specific geographic area need to be considered in a new way of managing emergency situations.     A model of air transport passenger incidents and rights

    This paper describes a representation of the legal framework in the air transport passenger's rights domain and the foremost incidents that trigger the top of consumer complaints ranking in the EU. It comprises the development of a small network of three ontologies, formalisation of scenarios, specification of properties and identification of relations. The approach is illustrated by means of a case study based in the context of a real life cancelled flight incident. This is part of an intended support-system that aims to provide both consumers and companies with relevant legal information to enhance the decision-making process

    Relaxing door-to-door matching reduces passenger waiting times: a workflow for the analysis of driver GPS traces in a stochastic carpooling service

    Carpooling has the potential to transform itself into a mass transportation mode by abandoning its adherence to deterministic passenger-driver matching for door-to-door journeys, and by adopting instead stochastic matching on a network of fixed meeting points. Stochastic matching is where a passenger sends out a carpooling request at a meeting point, and then waits for the arrival of a self-selected driver who is already travelling to the requested meeting point. Crucially there is no centrally dispatched driver. Moreover, the carpooling is assured only between the meeting points, so the onus is on the passengers to travel to/from them by their own means. Thus the success of a stochastic carpooling service relies on the convergence, with minimal perturbation to their existing travel patterns, to the meeting points which are highly frequented by both passengers and drivers. Due to the innovative nature of stochastic carpooling, existing off-the-shelf workflows are largely insufficient for this purpose. To fill the gap in the market, we introduce a novel workflow, comprising of a combination of data science and GIS (Geographic Information Systems), to analyse driver GPS traces. We implement it for an operational stochastic carpooling service in south-eastern France, and we demonstrate that relaxing door-to-door matching reduces passenger waiting times. Our workflow provides additional key operational indicators, namely the driver flow maps, the driver flow temporal profiles and the driver participation rates

    Mining temporal and spatial travel regularity for transit planning

    Smart Card data from Automated Fare Collection system has been considered as a promising source of information for transit planning. However, literature has been limited to mining travel patterns from transit users and suggesting the potential of using this information. This paper proposes a method for mining spatial regular origins-destinations and temporal habitual travelling time from transit users. These travel regularity are discussed as being useful for transit planning. After reconstructing the travel itineraries, three levels of Density-Based Spatial Clustering of Application with Noise (DBSCAN) have been utilised to retrieve travel regularity of each of each frequent transit users. Analyses of passenger classifications and personal travel time variability estimation are performed as the examples of using travel regularity in transit planning.
