Application and research of wireless laser methane sensor in drainage pipeline monitoring
Laser methane sensor has been widely promoted and successfully applied in coal mines as a new and effective technology building on the approach of laser-based absorption detection. Compared with the traditional catalytic methane sensor, the laser methane sensor discussed offers the important advantages of a long calibration period, high detection precision, the absence of zero drift and low power consumption, all of which are significant advantages for use in coal mining applications. By compensating for the temperature and pressure of the gases present, the accuracy of the methane sensor is evident across a wide range of temperatures and pressures, making it suitable for gas detection, including methane, in pipelines as well. The wireless laser approach which is incorporated into the methane sensor allows wireless transmission and data uploading to a cloud server through NB-IoT. This tackles the problem in gas pipeline monitoring of the length of many pipelines and thus the wide distribution of the sensors, avoiding complicated wiring and thus high associated cost. Further, remote data management can then be achieved, all of which greatly improves the flexibility and security of the management of the pipeline and the data generated

Coal mine low power laser methane detection and alarm instrument
At present, the portable carrier catalytic methane detection and alarm instrument for coal mine generally has many problems, such as high power consumption, short standby time, low detection accuracy, few parameters and single function, which can not meet the rapid development needs of mine safety. In this paper, a low power portable laser methane detection and alarm instrument based on tunable laser absorption spectroscopy (TDLAS) is designed. The instrument can detect methane concentration, ambient temperature and ambient pressure at the same time. It has the functions of sound and light alarm, historical data storage and query, and integrates Wi-Fi to realize data wireless transmission. The instrument can work continuously for 36 hours, and the response time is less than 15 seconds. It has the function of self-diagnosis. The overall performance of the instrument has been greatly improved compared with the traditional mine methane portable instrument. A mobile methane alarm Internet of things(IOT) system for coal mine based on portable instrument has been developed, which realizes real-time upload of data and cloud analysis, makes the traditional mine gas monitoring and control system powerfully supplemented, greatly improves the detection level of coal mine gas, and has broad application prospects
Underground Mining Monitoring and Communication Systems based on ZigBee and GIS
ZigBee as a wireless sensor network (WSN) was developed for underground mine monitoring and communication systems. The radio wave attenuations between ZigBee nodes were investigated to measure underground communication distances. Various sensor node arrangements of ZigBee topologies were evaluated. A system integration of a WSN-assisted GIS for underground mining monitoring and communication from a surface office was proposed. The controllable and uncontrollable parameters of underground environments were assessed to establish a reliable ZigBee network
ZIGBEE BASED MINE SAFETY MONITORING SYSTEM WITH GSM
In this work, a safe Coal Mine Monitoring system which replaces the traditional coal mine monitoring systems which tend to be wired network systems. This play an important role in coal mine safe production. With continuous enlarging of exploiting areas and extension of depth in coal mine, many laneways become monitoring blind areas, where are lots of hidden dangers. Moreover, it is inconvenient to lay cables which are expensive and consume time. In order to solve the problems, we designed a coal mine safety monitoring system based on wireless sensor network, which can improve the level of monitoring production safety and reduce accident in the coal mine. Zigbee technology provides a direction for scientists who commit to solve the safety monitoring problems of coal mine. The purpose of this study is to propose a solution suitable to mine wireless communication, safety monitoring, give a proof to the further study
Development of underground mine monitoring and communication system integrated ZigBee and GIS
An automated underground mine monitoring and communication system based on the integration of new technologies is introduced to promote safety and health, operational management and cost-effectiveness. The proposed system integration considering wireless sensor network (WSN) assisted geographic information system (GIS) enables to monitor and control underground mining applications from surface office. Based on the capabilities of WSNs, ZigBee network is adapted for near real-time monitoring, ventilation system control and emergency communication in underground mine. ZigBee nodes were developed to sense environmental attributes such as temperature, humidity and gases concentration; switching ON and OFF ventilation fans; and texting emergency messages. A trigger action plan for monitored attributes above normal and threshold value limits is programmed in the surface GIS management server. It is designed to turn the auxiliary fans on remotely or automatically in orange condition and sending evacuation messages for underground miners in unsafe (red) condition. Multi-users operation and 3D visualizations are other successful achievements of the proposed system for the underground monitoring and communication
Real Time Gas Monitoring System Using Wireless Sensor Network
Miner’s safety is the main issue in the present era. Miner’s health is affected by many means which includes unstable and cumbersome underground activities and awkward loads, heavy tools and equipment, exposure to toxic dust and chemicals, gas or dust explosions, improper use of explosives, gas intoxications, collapsing of mine structures, electrical burn, fires, flooding, rock falls from roofs and side walls workers stumbling/slipping/falling, or errors from malfunctioning or improperly used mining equipment. In earlier days for detection of gases canary and small animals are used but they didn’t provide the exact condition of the mines so safety in the mine in not guaranteed. Hence, there is a need of monitoring system which utilised the ZigBee wireless sensor network technology. There are two units of the monitoring system Sensor unit and Monitoring unit. Sensor unit will be placed in the underground section and Monitoring unit will be placed in the above the mines from where monitoring is done. Firstly, the Sensor unit is placed in the underground section of the mine. Where input is taken from the sensors in terms of Methane (CH4) i.e. MQ-2 sensor, Hydrogen Sulphide (H2S) i.e. MQ-136 sensor, and Natural Gases i.e. MQ-5 sensor. Then they are compared with their threshold value by the Microcontroller Module and if the value is above the threshold value, the Buzzer starts ringing meanwhile data is displayed in the Display module and sent to the Wireless Communication Module of the Monitor unit i.e. ends device or coordinator through the Wireless Communication Module of the Sensor unit i.e. router. In this way, the study can help the miners get relief from any casualty and ultimately save their lives. The device encompasses a large range of networking. The data can also be stored for future investigation. The device is also durable and costs effective with a price of approx. Rs. 6,500 to 7,000/-
An IoT Based Worker Safety Helmet Using Cloud Computing Technology
Miner safety and security is a major challenge around the world due to the exposure to toxic gases that are frequently released in underground mines. Miners' health is adversely affected primarily by toxic gases, which endanger the workers' lives. Furthermore, human sensory abilities do not detect these dangerous gases. As a result, this paper proposes a safety monitoring system that includes a temperature sensor, humidity sensor, and gas sensors to detect harmful gases and alert miners to those harmful gases using the smart helmet they wear. These gases are transmitted to the control station via the cloud using Internet of Things devices. The station monitors parameters like temperature, humidity, and toxic gases like methane and carbon monoxide to detect any abnormalities and alert the miner via a buzzer on the helmet. The data is processed by the Thing Speak cloud, which enables users to communicate via internet-connected devices and displays a field graph of the transmitted data
Design and Implementation of Coal Mine Physiological Parameters Monitoring Protocol
Modernization in the industries also concerns with the safety of workers especially for underground mining?s. This paper mainly deals with surveillance and safety measures for mine workers, which is most essential in underground mining areas. Here, a concept of wireless sensors network is used to monitor the environment parameters of underground mine area and all sensed parameters are sent to host computer. Arduino Microcontroller is a heart of a system used to build a fully automated measuring system with reliability, high accuracy and smooth control. Upon detecting critical conditions, alert system starts and the same information is transmitted to remote location by ZigBee Communication. The observed changes in the parameters will also be displayed on the host computer at base station which makes it easier for the underground control center to monitor and to take necessary immediate action to avoid damages
