    Comparative Analysis of Conventional and ICI-Self-Cancellation Digital Video Broadcasting Transceivers

    Digital video broadcasting–terrestrial (DVB-T) is one of the important technologies in the communication area because of its capability of high data-rate multimedia transmission. Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) has been the backbone technique in the current DVB-T systems adopted by Europe and Japan. However, since the OFDM system is very sensitive to the frequency synchronization and phase errors, which will induce the intercarrier interference (ICI), the ongoing research has been dedicated to this ICI problem in the presence of the Doppler frequency drift and the fading channels. A means to deal with the ICI problem is called the ICI self-cancellation or polynomial cancellation coding scheme. In this thesis, we establish the complete simulation environment for the physical layer of the DVB-T system and then evaluate the effectiveness of the ICI self-cancellation coding scheme compared with the existing convolutional coding scheme for different fading channels and different Doppler frequencies. According to our simulation results, we conclude that the ICI self-cancellation scheme significantly outperforms the convolutional coding scheme which is adopted by the existing DVB-T standard in the AWGN and the frequency non-selective fading channels, but both schemes have the similar performance in the frequency selective fading channels

    In last two decades, intelligent transportation systems (ITS) have received considerable attention due to new road traffic safety applications that significantly improve the efficiency of traffic flow and reduce the number of road accidents. Consequently, there has been an increased interest in studying and developing car-to-car (C2C) communication systems, which play a key role in ITS. C2C communications has also gained the attention of standardization bodies, such as the IEEE1 and 3GPP LTE2, which aim to provide improvements in C2C communication systems. As it follows from the title, in this dissertation, we present the state-of-the-art regarding the modeling and analysis of different C2C channels in C2C communication systems. In C2C communication systems, the underlying radio channel differs from the conventional fixed-to-mobile (F2M) and fixed-to-fixed (F2F) channels in the way that both the mobile transmitter and the mobile receiver are in motion. In this regard, reliable and robust traffic telematic systems have to be designed, developed and tested. This leads to a demand for new radio channel models for C2C communication systems. Therefore, this dissertation is devoted to design, develop and validate new geometry-based channel models for C2C communication systems. In particular, two goals are aimed, which are study and investigation of the propagation characteristics of C2C fading channels and analyzing the performance of C2C communication systems over those fading channels correlated in time and space.publishedVersio

    Identification of key research topics in 5G using co-word analysis

    Project Work presented as the partial requirement for obtaining a Master's degree in Information Management, specialization in Knowledge Management and Business IntelligenceThe aim of this research is to better understand the field of 5G by analyzing the more than 10000 publications found in the Web of Science database. To achieve this, a co-word analysis was performed to identify research topics based on the author keywords and a strategic diagram was used to measure their level of maturity and relevance to the field. In total this analysis identified that all the articles can be grouped into seven topics, from which, two are mature but peripheral, one is both well developed and central to the field, and the rest are central, but underdeveloped. The value of this research, was the usage of a well-established technique that has been used in many fields, but never in the field of 5G which is growing in relevance
