New security and control protocol for VoIP based on steganography and digital watermarking
In this paper new security and control protocol for Voice over Internet
Protocol (VoIP) service is presented. It is the alternative for the IETF's
(Internet Engineering Task Force) RTCP (Real-Time Control Protocol) for
real-time application's traffic. Additionally this solution offers
authentication and integrity, it is capable of exchanging and verifying QoS and
security parameters. It is based on digital watermarking and steganography that
is why it does not consume additional bandwidth and the data transmitted is
inseparably bound to the voice content.Comment: 8 pages, 4 figures, 1 tabl
SecMon: End-to-End Quality and Security Monitoring System
The Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is becoming a more available and
popular way of communicating for Internet users. This also applies to
Peer-to-Peer (P2P) systems and merging these two have already proven to be
successful (e.g. Skype). Even the existing standards of VoIP provide an
assurance of security and Quality of Service (QoS), however, these features are
usually optional and supported by limited number of implementations. As a
result, the lack of mandatory and widely applicable QoS and security guaranties
makes the contemporary VoIP systems vulnerable to attacks and network
disturbances. In this paper we are facing these issues and propose the SecMon
system, which simultaneously provides a lightweight security mechanism and
improves quality parameters of the call. SecMon is intended specially for VoIP
service over P2P networks and its main advantage is that it provides
authentication, data integrity services, adaptive QoS and (D)DoS attack
detection. Moreover, the SecMon approach represents a low-bandwidth consumption
solution that is transparent to the users and possesses a self-organizing
capability. The above-mentioned features are accomplished mainly by utilizing
two information hiding techniques: digital audio watermarking and network
steganography. These techniques are used to create covert channels that serve
as transport channels for lightweight QoS measurement's results. Furthermore,
these metrics are aggregated in a reputation system that enables best route
path selection in the P2P network. The reputation system helps also to mitigate
(D)DoS attacks, maximize performance and increase transmission efficiency in
the network.Comment: Paper was presented at 7th international conference IBIZA 2008: On

Energy efficient mining on a quantum-enabled blockchain using light
We outline a quantum-enabled blockchain architecture based on a consortium of
quantum servers. The network is hybridised, utilising digital systems for
sharing and processing classical information combined with a fibre--optic
infrastructure and quantum devices for transmitting and processing quantum
information. We deliver an energy efficient interactive mining protocol enacted
between clients and servers which uses quantum information encoded in light and
removes the need for trust in network infrastructure. Instead, clients on the
network need only trust the transparent network code, and that their devices
adhere to the rules of quantum physics. To demonstrate the energy efficiency of
the mining protocol, we elaborate upon the results of two previous experiments
(one performed over 1km of optical fibre) as applied to this work. Finally, we
address some key vulnerabilities, explore open questions, and observe
forward--compatibility with the quantum internet and quantum computing
technologies.Comment: 25 pages, 5 figure
iTETRIS: An Integrated Wireless and Traffic Platform for Real-Time Road Traffic Management Solutions
Wireless vehicular cooperative systems have been identified as an attractive solution to improve road traffic management, thereby contributing to the European goal of safer, cleaner, and more efficient and sustainable traffic solutions. V2V-V2I communication technologies can improve traffic management through real-time exchange of data among vehicles and with road infrastructure. It is also of great importance to investigate the adequate combination of V2V and V2I technologies to ensure the continuous and costefficient operation of traffic management solutions based on wireless vehicular cooperative solutions. However, to adequately design and optimize these communication protocols and analyze the potential of wireless vehicular cooperative systems to improve road traffic management, adequate testbeds and field operational tests need to be conducted.
Despite the potential of Field Operational Tests to get the first insights into the benefits and problems faced in the development of wireless vehicular cooperative systems, there is yet the need to evaluate in the long term and large dimension the true potential benefits of wireless vehicular cooperative systems to improve traffic efficiency. To this aim, iTETRIS is devoted to the development of advanced tools coupling traffic and wireless communication simulators
Network-based business process management: embedding business logic in communications networks
Advanced Business Process Management (BPM) tools enable the decomposition of previously integrated and often ill-defined processes into re-usable process modules. These process modules can subsequently be distributed on the Internet over a variety of many different actors, each with their own specialization and economies-of-scale. The economic benefits of process specialization can be huge. However, how should such actors in a business network find, select, and control, the best partner for what part of the business process, in such a way that the best result is achieved? This particular management challenge requires more advanced techniques and tools in the enabling communications networks. An approach has been developed to embed business logic into the communications networks in order to optimize the allocation of business resources from a network point of view. Initial experimental results have been encouraging while at the same time demonstrating the need for more robust techniques in a future of massively distributed business processes.active networks;business process management;business protocols;embedded business logic;genetic algorithms;internet distributed process management;payment systems;programmable networks;resource optimization
SECURITY MEASUREMENT FOR LTE/SAE NETWORK DURING SINGLE RADIO VOICE CALL CONTINUITY (SRVCC).
Voice has significant place in mobile communication networks. Though data applications have extensively gained in importance over the years but voice is still a
major source of revenue for mobile operators. It is obvious that voice will remain an important application even in the era of Long Term Evolution (LTE). Basically LTE is an all-IP data-only transport technology using packet switching. Therefore, it introduces challenges to satisfy quality of service expectations for circuit-switched mobile telephony and SMS for LTE capable smartphones, while being served on the LTE network. Since 2013, mobile operators have been busy deploying Voice Over LTE (VoLTE). They are relying on a VoLTE technology called Single Radio Voice Call Continuity (SRVCC) for seamless handover between packet-switch domain to circuit-switch domain or vice versa. The aim of thesis is to review and identify the security measurement during SRVCC and verify test data for ciphering and integrity algorithm.fi=Opinnäytetyö kokotekstinä PDF-muodossa.|en=Thesis fulltext in PDF format.|sv=Lärdomsprov tillgängligt som fulltext i PDF-format
