INTEGRATION OF INTERNET OF THINGS AND HEALTH RECOMMENDER SYSTEMS
The Internet of Things (IoT) has become a part of our lives and has provided many enhancements to day-to-day living. In this project, IoT in healthcare is reviewed. IoT-based healthcare is utilized in remote health monitoring, observing chronic diseases, individual fitness programs, helping the elderly, and many other healthcare fields. There are three main architectures of smart IoT healthcare: Three-Layer Architecture, Service-Oriented Based Architecture (SoA), and The Middleware-Based IoT Architecture. Depending on the required services, different IoT architecture are being used. In addition, IoT healthcare services, IoT healthcare service enablers, IoT healthcare applications, and IoT healthcare services focusing on Smartwatch are presented in this research. Along with IoT in smart healthcare, Health Recommender Systems integration with IoT is important. Main Recommender Systems including Content-based filtering, Collaborative-based filtering, Knowledge-based filtering, and Hybrid filtering with machine learning algorithms are described for the Health Recommender Systems. In this study, a framework is presented for the IoT-based Health Recommender Systems. Also, a case is investigated on how different algorithms can be used for Recommender Systems and their accuracy levels are presented. Such a framework can help with the health issues, for example, risk of going to see the doctor during pandemic, taking quick actions in any health emergencies, affordability of healthcare services, and enhancing the personal lifestyle using recommendations in non-critical conditions. The proposed framework can necessitate further development of IoT-based Health Recommender Systems so that people can mitigate their medical emergencies and live a healthy life
Implementing a one-to-one iPad program in a secondary school
The purpose of this study was to identify and analyze the necessary data and use it to determine the degree of success of the implementation process used to initiate a 1:1 iPad program in a senior high school. Use of this data enabled the district to more effectively infuse the use of the iPad into the delivery of instruction designed to improve student achievement. This study utilized a developmental evaluation model to assess the implementation of the processes used as the 1:1 iPad initiative was designed and implemented. Developmental evaluation is a suitable evaluation model as it supports the process of innovation in ways that enable exploration and development. This model is also useful in innovative settings where goals are emerging and changing rather than predetermined and fixed, where time periods are fluid and forward-looking rather than artificially imposed by external deadlines, and where the purpose is learning, innovation, and change. Parents, students, teachers, and visiting school personnel were surveyed and interviewed to determine their perceptions related to the implementation process. Findings indicate that the perceptions of all the stakeholders were very positive regarding the success of the implementation of the 1:1 iPad program. Overall, each of the stakeholders believed that the program is good for student learning. Data analyses indicate that thorough and timely staff development was a key to getting the teachers to utilize the technology in their classrooms. Student engagement and parental input were instrumental in the development and implementation of the 1:1 iPad program
A survey of recommender systems for energy efficiency in buildings: Principles, challenges and prospects
Recommender systems have significantly developed in recent years in parallel
with the witnessed advancements in both internet of things (IoT) and artificial
intelligence (AI) technologies. Accordingly, as a consequence of IoT and AI,
multiple forms of data are incorporated in these systems, e.g. social,
implicit, local and personal information, which can help in improving
recommender systems' performance and widen their applicability to traverse
different disciplines. On the other side, energy efficiency in the building
sector is becoming a hot research topic, in which recommender systems play a
major role by promoting energy saving behavior and reducing carbon emissions.
However, the deployment of the recommendation frameworks in buildings still
needs more investigations to identify the current challenges and issues, where
their solutions are the keys to enable the pervasiveness of research findings,
and therefore, ensure a large-scale adoption of this technology. Accordingly,
this paper presents, to the best of the authors' knowledge, the first timely
and comprehensive reference for energy-efficiency recommendation systems
through (i) surveying existing recommender systems for energy saving in
buildings; (ii) discussing their evolution; (iii) providing an original
taxonomy of these systems based on specified criteria, including the nature of
the recommender engine, its objective, computing platforms, evaluation metrics
and incentive measures; and (iv) conducting an in-depth, critical analysis to
identify their limitations and unsolved issues. The derived challenges and
areas of future implementation could effectively guide the energy research
community to improve the energy-efficiency in buildings and reduce the cost of

Our design employs individual and group profiling to recommend destinations and attractions. Social networking and various forms of user-generated narratives support travel recommendations. Finally, we propose a system for offering a personalized trip package based on user interests
A Survey on Fairness-aware Recommender Systems
As information filtering services, recommender systems have extremely
enriched our daily life by providing personalized suggestions and facilitating
people in decision-making, which makes them vital and indispensable to human
society in the information era. However, as people become more dependent on
them, recent studies show that recommender systems potentially own
unintentional impacts on society and individuals because of their unfairness
(e.g., gender discrimination in job recommendations). To develop trustworthy
services, it is crucial to devise fairness-aware recommender systems that can
mitigate these bias issues. In this survey, we summarise existing methodologies
and practices of fairness in recommender systems. Firstly, we present concepts
of fairness in different recommendation scenarios, comprehensively categorize
current advances, and introduce typical methods to promote fairness in
different stages of recommender systems. Next, after introducing datasets and
evaluation metrics applied to assess the fairness of recommender systems, we
will delve into the significant influence that fairness-aware recommender
systems exert on real-world industrial applications. Subsequently, we highlight
the connection between fairness and other principles of trustworthy recommender
systems, aiming to consider trustworthiness principles holistically while
advocating for fairness. Finally, we summarize this review, spotlighting
promising opportunities in comprehending concepts, frameworks, the balance
between accuracy and fairness, and the ties with trustworthiness, with the
ultimate goal of fostering the development of fairness-aware recommender

Using Semantic-Based User Profile Modeling for Context-Aware Personalised Place Recommendations
Place Recommendation Systems (PRS's) are used to recommend places to visit to World Wide Web users. Existing PRS's are still limited by several problems, some of which are the problem of recommending similar set of places to different users (Lack of Personalization) and no diversity in the set of recommended items (Content Overspecialization). One of the main objectives in the PRS's or Contextual suggestion systems is to fill the semantic gap among the queries and suggestions and going beyond keywords matching. To address these issues, in this study we attempt to build a personalized context-aware place recommender system using semantic-based user profile modeling to address the limitations of current user profile building techniques and to improve the retrieval performance of personalized place recommender system. This approach consists of building a place ontology based on the Open Directory Project (ODP), a hierarchical ontology scheme for organizing websites. We model a semantic user profile from the place concepts extracted from place ontology and weighted according to their semantic relatedness to user interests. The semantic user profile is then exploited to devise a personalized recommendation by re-ranking process of initial search results for improving retrieval performance. We evaluate this approach on dataset obtained using Google Paces API. Results show that our proposed approach significantly improves the retrieval performance compare to classic keyword-based place recommendation model
