Symbolic Implementation of Connectors in BIP
BIP is a component framework for constructing systems by superposing three
layers of modeling: Behavior, Interaction, and Priority. Behavior is
represented by labeled transition systems communicating through ports.
Interactions are sets of ports. A synchronization between components is
possible through the interactions specified by a set of connectors. When
several interactions are possible, priorities allow to restrict the
non-determinism by choosing an interaction, which is maximal according to some
given strict partial order.
The BIP component framework has been implemented in a language and a
tool-set. The execution of a BIP program is driven by a dedicated engine, which
has access to the set of connectors and priority model of the program. A key
performance issue is the computation of the set of possible interactions of the
BIP program from a given state.
Currently, the choice of the interaction to be executed involves a costly
exploration of enumerative representations for connectors. This leads to a
considerable overhead in execution times. In this paper, we propose a symbolic
implementation of the execution model of BIP, which drastically reduces this
overhead. The symbolic implementation is based on computing boolean
representation for components, connectors, and priorities with an existing BDD
package
Study on QoS support in 802.11e-based multi-hop vehicular wireless ad hoc networks
Multimedia communications over vehicular ad hoc networks (VANET) will play an important role in the future intelligent transport system (ITS). QoS support for VANET therefore becomes an essential problem. In this paper, we first study the QoS performance in multi-hop VANET by using the standard IEEE 802.11e EDCA MAC and our proposed triple-constraint QoS routing protocol, Delay-Reliability-Hop (DeReHQ). In particular, we evaluate the DeReHQ protocol together with EDCA in highway and urban areas. Simulation results show that end-to-end delay performance can sometimes be achieved when both 802.11e EDCA and DeReHQ extended AODV are used. However, further studies on cross-layer optimization for QoS support in multi-hop environment are required

Toward Sequentializing Overparallelized Protocol Code
In our ongoing work, we use constraint automata to compile protocol
specifications expressed as Reo connectors into efficient executable code,
e.g., in C. We have by now studied this automata based compilation approach
rather well, and have devised effective solutions to some of its problems.
Because our approach is based on constraint automata, the approach, its
problems, and our solutions are in fact useful and relevant well beyond the
specific case of compiling Reo. In this short paper, we identify and analyze

A Comprehensive Study of the Enhanced Distributed Control Access (EDCA) Function
This technical report presents a comprehensive study of the Enhanced Distributed Control Access (EDCA) function defined in IEEE 802.11e. All the three factors are considered. They are: contention window size (CW), arbitration inter-frame space (AIFS), and transmission opportunity limit (TXOP). We first propose a discrete Markov chain model to describe the channel activities governed by EDCA. Then we evaluate the individual as well as joint effects of each factor on the throughput and QoS performance. We obtain several insightful observations showing that judiciously using the EDCA service differentiation mechanism is important to achieve maximum bandwidth utilization and user-specified QoS performance. Guided by our theoretical study, we devise a general QoS framework that provides QoS in an optimal way. The means of realizing the framework in a specific network is yet to be studied
