risk-e The risk management pathway, an e-learning tool for healthcare professionals.
This thesis investigates software methods that could reduce the frequency of adverse incidents in hospitals, using available best practices. The objective is to reduce the number of incidents in hospitals by helping the NHS staff gain a deep understanding of risk management with minimal distraction from their daily duties. The solution is an e-learning tool which combines web based e-learning and database management functionality. It provides the users with risk management educational material and appropriate database tools in order to be able to build up a risk action plans database based on their job experience and those educational materials. The software application has been developed based on a development methodology and a customized software development life cycle model. The research addressed the complexity and multidimensional nature of the risk management e-learning development approach in the health care environment. Throughout the research a deeper understanding of a variety of concepts and aspects in different fields has been gained and the appropriate educational platform and pedagogy for the system has been identified.EThOS - Electronic Theses Online ServiceGBUnited Kingdo

Investigation into the design of educational multimedia : video, interactivity and narrative
This study critically examines the design of multimedia in education. The study begins by reviewing existing media in education and then uses a series of empirical studies to uncover, and then examine the key issues for the design of educational multimedia. The research involves two studies. The first, a preliminary study, that identifies specific areas of interest for the research. This study looks at the existing use of an interactive video disc program for training in Price Waterhouse. The literature search, combined with the outcomes of the preliminary study, identified the areas for further research as: the use of video, forms of interaction, and the role of narrative. The main study examines these areas using two phases. The first phase analyses three treatments of the same educational text, on linear video, multimedia, and structured multimedia, each treatment maintaining the same content and narrative structure, but differing in presentation and control. The second phases builds on the results of the first with the creation and analysis of an interactive multimedia program that takes advantage of the identified strengths of multimedia, and specifically tackles problems found in the first phase. Qualitative data collection techniques are used in both phases, and form the basis of the findings. The findings are presented as implications for multimedia design, and discuss the use and development of narrative and grammar in multimedia, as well as the importance of carefully designed user interaction and goal definition
EXPLORING TEACHERS' EDUCATIONAL VIDEO GAME INTEGRATION PROCESS: FOUR EXPLORATORY CASE STUDIES
Thesis (Ph.D.) - Indiana University, School of Education, 2015Immersive educational games have continued to grow in popularity; however, there is a growing need in the field of game research to gain a clearer picture of the process by which teachers integrate these games to promote student achievement. The focus of this exploratory case-based research was to gain a clearer picture of the relationship between a teacher's desire to use an immersive game for a particular use and the process of realizing that purpose in his or her classroom through an implementation. Due to a lack of immersive game integration research, this study drew upon the large corpus of research on educational technology to conceptualize an immersive educational MUVE game as a type of instructional tool. The manner in which a game is used is largely influenced by a teacher's pedagogical preferences and classroom factors; therefore, this research has built a series of cases that observed and analyzed how four 7th and 8th grade teachers, working within a publicly-funded charter school, implemented the educational immersive game called Quest Atlantis. Video and interview data were collected each day teachers implemented QA in their classrooms. Video data was transcribed and coded using a grounded constant comparison method. The results of the analysis generated a number of themes that affirmed that teachers had a strong influence on how the game was used, and that a game implementation was a complex and brittle process. The conclusion of this study suggested that administrators and game scholars should shift their focus toward promoting the benefits of using games for teachers instead of students, and recommended that teachers are provided significant professional development and implementation support in order to realize the power immersive games can provide
Total Integrated Clinic Information System (TICIS)
Information technology is proving to be a vital element in the administration
of healthcare. Specifically, most healthcare institutions in this country are adopting
information systems that provide more accurate and timely information regarding
patient care. Appropriate patient care requires the use of clinical procedures aswell as
applied research protocols. Information must beaccurate and immediately available to
individuals involved in the care of patients. "Total Integrated Clinic Information
System" was introduced as a way to facilitate a centralized patient information
repository. Benefits realized by this system included improvements in patient care,
clinical research, and patient service and satisfaction. The ultimate goal ofthis project
was to provide a paperless patient medical record that linked research and clinical
data

A conceptual quality framework for online distance education in a South African higher education context
Thesis (PhD (Computer Integrated Education))--University of Pretoria, 2023.Residential higher education institutions in South Africa have reached their capacity to support full-time, face-to-face students, and the demand for higher education is increasing rapidly. The Council on Higher Education in South Africa acknowledges that the post-schooling systems' capacity and effectiveness should be improved and expanded. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic exposed many institutions' inability to provide education online. Also, the rapid expansion of higher education is usually associated with compromising the quality of education offered. Subsequently, residential institutions must ensure quality in their online distance education offerings. Therefore, this study investigates how institutions enact the quality elements of online higher distance education. This study followed a qualitative research approach and involved two higher education institutions in South Africa as case studies. The interpretivistic nature of this study allowed the researcher to collect data through semi-structured and focus-group interviews. The study's theoretical framework was essential in analysing the collected data deductively and inductively. The data analysis resulted in a Conceptual Quality Framework that residential higher education institutions in South Africa could use to transition their administrative, teaching and learning processes to an online format. The framework underscores South African residential institutions' intricate challenges in transitioning to online distance education. While South Africa has robust distance education policies, there is a notable gap in awareness and implementation at an institutional level. This discrepancy raises concerns about potential non-compliance, quality variations, and a lack of standardised approaches. Various challenges mark the transition from blended to fully online education, emphasising the need for a comprehensive framework to ensure quality in the online distance format. Issues such as administrative infrastructure complexity, technological integration, and the varying approaches of institutions contribute to the complexity. Overall, a nuanced and adaptive approach is essential for residential institutions navigating the intricate landscape of transitioning administrative, teaching, and learning processes to an online format.Science, Mathematics and Technology EducationPhD (Computer Integrated Education)UnrestrictedFaculty of EducationSDG-04: Quality Educatio
