    Comparing the Performances of Neural Network and Rough Set Theory to Reflect the Improvement of Prognostic in Medical Data

    In this research, I investigate and compared two of Artificial Intelligence (AI)techniques which are; Neural network and Rough set will be the best technique to be use in analyzing data. Recently, AI is one of the techniques which still in development process that produced few of intelligent systems that helped human to support their daily life such as decision making. In Malaysia, it is newly introduced by a group of researchers from University Science Malaysia. They agreed with others world-wide researchers that AI is very helpful to replaced human intelligence and do many works that can be done by human especially in medical area.In this research, I have chosen three sets of medical data; Wisoncin Prognostic Breast cancer, Parkinson’s diseases and Hepatitis Prognostic. The reason why the medical data is selected for this research because of the popularity among the researchers that done their research in AI by using medical data and the prediction or target attributes is clearly understandable. The results and findings also discussed in this paper. How the experiment has been done; the steps involved also discussed in this paper. I also conclude this paper with conclusion and future work

    Information structure and the accessibility of clausally introduced referents

    This paper will examine the role of various factors in affecting the salience, and hence the accessibility to pronominal reference, of entities introduced into a discourse by a full clause. We begin with the premise that the possibility of pronominal reference with it versus that depends on the cognitive status of the referent, in the sense of Gundel, Hedberg and Zacharski (1993). This formulation of the problem provides grounds for an explanation of the data presented above, and provides a framework within which we examine the role of various other factors in promoting the salience of a clausally introduced entity, including the information structure of the utterance in which the entity is introduced. For entities introduced by clausal complements to bridge verbs, we show that the information structure of the utterance introducing the entity has a partial, or one-sided, effect on the salience of the entity. When the complement clause is focal, the salience of the entity depends only on its referential givenness-newness (in the sense of Gundel 1988, 1999b), as we would expect. But when the complement clause is ground material, the salience of an entity introduced by the clause is enhanced. Other factors, including the presuppositionality of factive and interrogative complements, also serve to enhance the salience of entities introduced by complement clauses

    An elastoplastic framework for granular materials becoming cohesive through mechanical densification. Part I - small strain formulation

    Mechanical densification of granular bodies is a process in which a loose material becomes increasingly cohesive as the applied pressure increases. A constitutive description of this process faces the formidable problem that granular and dense materials have completely different mechanical behaviours (nonlinear elastic properties, yield limit, plastic flow and hardening laws), which must both be, in a sense, included in the formulation. A treatment of this problem is provided here, so that a new phenomenological, elastoplastic constitutive model is formulated, calibrated by experimental data, implemented and tested, that is capable of describing the transition between granular and fully dense states of a given material. The formulation involves a novel use of elastoplastic coupling to describe the dependence of cohesion and elastic properties on the plastic strain. The treatment falls within small strain theory, which is thought to be appropriate in several situations; however, a generalization of the model to large strain is provided in Part II of this paper.Comment: 42 pages, 27 figure

    An Empirical Test of Reder Competition and Specific Human Capital Against Standard Wage Competition

    A firm that faces insufficient supply of labor can either increase the wage offer to attract more applicants, or reduce the hiring standard to enlarge the pool of potential employees, or do both. This simultaneous adjustment of wages and hiring standards has been emphasized in a classical contribution by Reder (1955) and implies that wage reactions to employment changes can be expected to be more pronounced for low wage workers than for high wage workers. We test this hypothesis (together with a related hypothesis on firm-specific human capital) by applying a bootstrap-based quantile regression approach to censored panel data from the German employment register. Our findings suggest that market clearing is achieved by a combination of wage and hiring standards adjustment

At this workshop we discussed the connection between information structure and the referential interpretation of linguistic expressions, a topic mostly neglected in current linguistics research. One common aim of the papers is to find out to what extent the focus-background as well as the topic-comment structuring determine the referential interpretation of simple arguments like definite and indefinite NPs on the one hand and sentences on the other
