Research Gateway Management System for ARSC Projects
The Research Gateway Management System (RGMS) is an account management system written in Python1 geared towards creating and facilitating user authentication and management for Arctic Region Supercomputer Center (ARSC) users on the ARSC systems. The intent of the RGMS is to forge an easy to use interface for clients to manage project
information and for system administrators to manage projects and users. Utilizing this account management system will catalyze a transition towards the simplification of user and project requests and creation procedures as well as streamline user access to ARSC systems
Interfacing the expert: Characteristics and requirements for the user interface in expert systems
Because expert systems deal with new sets of problems presenting unique interface requirements, special issues requiring special attention are presented to user interface designers. External knowledge representation (how knowdedge is represented across the user interface), modes of user-system interdependence (advisory, cooperative, and autonomous), and management of uncertainty (deciding what actions to take or recommend based on incomplete evidence) are discussed
Towards automation of user interface design
This paper suggests an approach to automatic software design in the domain of graphical user interfaces. There are still some drawbacks in existing user interface management systems (UIMS's) which basically offer only quantitative layout specifications via direct manipulation. Our approach suggests a convenient way to get a default graphical user interface which may be customized and redesigned easily in further prototyping cycles
Making intelligent systems team players: Case studies and design issues. Volume 1: Human-computer interaction design
Initial results are reported from a multi-year, interdisciplinary effort to provide guidance and assistance for designers of intelligent systems and their user interfaces. The objective is to achieve more effective human-computer interaction (HCI) for systems with real time fault management capabilities. Intelligent fault management systems within the NASA were evaluated for insight into the design of systems with complex HCI. Preliminary results include: (1) a description of real time fault management in aerospace domains; (2) recommendations and examples for improving intelligent systems design and user interface design; (3) identification of issues requiring further research; and (4) recommendations for a development methodology integrating HCI design into intelligent system design
SECY APP: self configuration and easy management for software defined smart homes
In this paper we address configuration and management issues of smart homes. Current platforms requires the user to deal with several management inconvenience problems, such as increasing devices, operating between devices, and using new devices. From a user perspective, system configuration and management are major issues: ordinary consumers want to use systems performing minimal configuration. To address this issue, we propose a platform, composed of a web application and Software Defined Network (SDN). While the user interacts with an easy-to-use interface on a smart device, the app automatically generates and installs SDN rules. Our platform, besides facilitating configuration and management, results more efficient --- up to 4 times faster --- and reliable --- able to operate even in case of no connection with the cloud --- than current solutions
Integrating multiple sources to answer questions in Algebraic Topology
We present in this paper an evolution of a tool from a user interface for a
concrete Computer Algebra system for Algebraic Topology (the Kenzo system), to
a front-end allowing the interoperability among different sources for
computation and deduction. The architecture allows the system not only to
interface several systems, but also to make them cooperate in shared
calculations.Comment: To appear in The 9th International Conference on Mathematical

MSGI: MySQL Graphical Interface
The current development in data processing technology and the current revolution in office information systems require a very efficient database end user interface capable of satisfying the requirements of the increasing spectrum of end user. Studies in this respect have shown that the graphical specification for such an interface is more successful than the linear and the natural language specifications. In this paper, MSGI (MySQL Graphical Interface) design and implementation are presented. It is an easy to use and easy to learn graphical database end user interface, running on the PC with any platform, to provide a comprehensive facility for accessing databases managed and controlled by MySQL database management systems.
