This study examined the attitudes and perceptions of staff members and administrators in the General Directorate for Private Institutes & Centers (GDPI&C), Training institutes, and Centers in Saudi Arabia toward Internet-based Electronic Data Interchange (I-EDI) in a public organization. A survey was conducted of a group of GDPI&C members and randomly selected Institutes and Centers. The 339 respondents participated anonymously by providing demographic information and completing the attitudes and perceptions section of I-EDI questionnaire. The survey response rate was 82.6%. An attitude survey was distributed to staff members, administrators, and faculty members in the Saudi Arabian GDPI&C, Training Institutes, and Centers. The study was designed to (a) measure the attitudes and perceptions of staff members, administrators, and faculty members in GDPI&C toward the use of computers, the Internet, and the implementation of I-EDI within the organization and (b) describe Institute/Center administrators\u27, staff members\u27, and faculty members\u27 attitudes and perceptions toward the use of computers, the Internet, and the implementation of I-EDI. The study also examined the expectations of GDPI&C staff members/administrators/faculty members and those of Institute and Center staff members, administrators, and faculty members regarding the potential benefits of implementing a new system (I-EDI). It was found that the participants in GDPI&C, Training Institutes, and Centers across Saudi Arabia did understand and appreciate the value to the organization of I-EDI. It was also found that they did not hold significant fears about using computers and the Internet in the organization. It was further found that they would not be likely to fear the implementation of I-EDI in the organization. Based on these findings, it was concluded that implementation of I-EDI in GDPI&C, Training Institutes, and Centers across Saudi Arabia is a necessary project and that fears of personnel are unlikely to interfere with the implementation I-EDI. It was recommended that the GDPI&C proceed to a stage of intensive planning for the implementation of I-EDI in the organization

The aim of this study was to investigate the satisfaction of academic staff users with the Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) and Compact Disk Read Only Memory (CD-ROM) services in the central library of King Abdulaziz University, Jeddah, S.A., to investigate the existing status of the card catalogue, to identify the problems and difficulties being faced by academic staff, and to suggest ways and means for developing electronic technology in the library. The literature review survey on OPACs is presented as an overview using OPAC and what difficulties and problems occur when the system is used. Also, the survey represented OPAC user needs and the degree of satisfaction for users with OPAC. The third chapter studies the electronic information services in Saudi Arabia and how these services have developed generally in Saudi Arabia and particularly in King Abdulaziz University Library. Also this chapter concentrates on the important relevant institutions and how the leaders are in this field. From the results of the questionnaire survey it is seen that younger staff and more recent graduates used OPAC considerably more than older staff. Only about one third of staff used CD-ROM and about half OPAC, and of the latter most also need the card catalogue. An attempt has been made to identify the importance of electronic information at the King Abdulaziz University and the difficulties the library has faced in this field, and finally suggestions have been made for overcoming these difficulties

The Coming Age Of Electronic Medical Records: From Paper To Electronic

    Get PDF
Medical records, first developed in the fifth century, have remained virtually unchanged until the explosion of new technology in the mid-1960’s. The National Space and Aeronautics Administration’s development of computerized patient record (CPR) brought life to the electronic medical record (EMR) industry. Preventable deaths due to medical errors drew the attention of public and health care professionals to the need for increased patient safety and improved quality measures in medicine. With health care costs compromising 16-17% of the U.S. Gross Domestic Product, Congress passed legislation to financially support providers to adopt electronic medical record (EMR). As a result, future efforts will focus on the sharing of information among all health care stakeholders. Across the world, governments, technology companies, and care providers are collaborating efforts to make the EMR a reality

    Get PDF
Multilingual retrival systems are very important for countries like India, where we have multiple scripts and many languages for verbal and written communication. The creation of a multilingual interface for the retrival, management, and processing of information and knowledge needs systematic efforts and requires related features in the Library Management Software and the availability of bibliographic records in catalogues. This paper is an effort to study various related aspects of multilingual record creation and retrival provisions in Union Datanases. The development of a multilingual environment for accessing and retrieving library resources among the users as well as library professionals is essential. The article is divided into five sections. The first section deals with the introduction. It covers the multilingual system, with reference to multiscript bibliographic control, the objective, and methodology of the study. The second section examines the contours of multilingual bibliographic control, in particular in the Indian context. The third section deals with the multilingual cataloguing procedure and The fourth section deals with the Situation in India in Terms of Multilingual Bibliographic Database and Issues. issues, challenges, and solutions. The fifth and final section of the article is concerned with the conclusion. The objective of this paper is to analyse the issues and challenges in the Indian multi-lingual and multi-script bibliographic retrieval systems. Through the analysis of available bibliographic data and database interfaces, the authors evaluate the adoption of multilingual and multi script processes and procedures for bibliographic data creation. The study\u27s findings will aid in understanding the current status of multilingual bibliographic record creation and the need for policy-level intervention to maintain and develop multilingual records for the creation of qualitative bibliographic databases

The Effects Of Two Different Instructional Programmes On Literacy Skills Of Kindergarten Children

    Get PDF
Lately, research exploring the effects of tutorial instructional programmes and educational games on literacy skills of kindergarten children has attracted large number of educational technology researchers and practitioners. Even though overwhelming research literature on the subject is available, the majority of this existing work is designed and organized in western contexts i.e. developed countries. Due to that reason, much less is known about the effects of tutorial instructional programmes and educational games on the literacy skills of Arabic speaking kindergarten children. Our study tries to bridge this gap in the existing literature by performing a comparison study of two different instructional programmes on the development of literacy skills amongst 5 to 6 years old kindergarten children in Saudi Arabia. As a result of this study, it was found that educational games were more effective in supporting and facilitating literacy skills of participating kindergarten children compared to tutorial instructional programmes
