    Get PDF

During the occurrence of disaster, knowledge sharing plays as important role.Through effective knowledge sharing, it can help victims save lives; received immediate relief and support; and minimize the disaster effect. But lack of works has been done to examine the determinants of knowledge sharing within disaster management context. Therefore, this study aims to provide a better understanding of knowledge sharing during the occurrence of disaster. In order to examine the determinant of individual's knowledge sharing behavior during the occurrence of disaster, the researcher will use social cognitive theory (SCT) to conceptualize a theoretical model for this study. This study holds self-efficacy, reciprocity, social support and social recognition as an influence individual in sharing knowledge during the occurrence of disaster. The methodology begins with constructing a questionnaire to investigate the theoretical model. The respondents are victims that have had experience in sharing knowledge during the flood. This study was used a Structural Equation Modeling(SEM)to test causal relationships between constructs.Hopefully, by proposed theoretical model through this research can provide additional insight on what influence knowledge sharing behavior within disaster management context

    Get PDF
E-Portfolio is considered as a digital collection of students’ work which demonstrates their reflections, experiences and progress over a period of time. Students can collaborate with other students and their lecturers through e-Portfolio. This paper explains the importance of uses and gratification theory in an electronic portfolio. Using the theory, this paper will investigate and examine the gratifications that students receive from the use of e-Portfolio. Generally speaking, this paper intends to provide a better understanding of why students use e-Portfolio. For the purpose of this research, an exploratory study is applied using 15 in-depth interviews with the students who use e-Portfolio. The result of qualitative content analysis shows that the e-Portfolio use is motivated by eight major themes including giving and receiving feedback, long-term consequences of use, selfdocumentation, information sharing, informativeness, social interactions, entertainment and convenience utility. Among these themes, giving and receiving feedback, long-term consequence of use, information sharing and self-documentation have the considerable influence on student motivation to continue e-Portfolio utilization. These themes can help universities to be aware of their students’ needs and reasons of using e-Portfolio. Therefore, universities can change some of their policies to motivate the students to continue the use of e-Portfolio

    Get PDF
This study investigated the undergraduates’ embedment with, and embracement of social networking sites (SNS) with a modified theory of planned behavior (TPB). It is recognized that social influence, enjoyment, perceived behavioral control as well as embracement and embedment are pertinent to the discourse. Data was collected from undergraduates in four (4) culturally diverse countries was used. Hypotheses were developed to test the proposed research conceptualization. The partial least squares (PLS) technique was used for data analysis. The results confirmed that perceived enjoyment and perceived behavioral control positively influenced students’ behavioral intentions for SNS users; subjective norm did not. However, subjective norm has positive impacts on students’ embedment with, and embracement of such tools. Students’ behavioral intention to accept SNS has positive influence on students’ embedment with, and embracement of SNS

This study employed the theory of innovation resistance as a research basis to investigate main factors that influence individuals to resist using mobile banking. Compared to that numerous researches used innovation adoption theories to investigate what affects individuals to adopt mobile banking over the past ten years, this empirical study could advance current knowledge on the non-adoption of mobile banking. Besides, from innovation resistance perspectives to explore the mobile banking adoption and non-adoption, this study could provide banks valuable clues to develop elaborate and differentiated service, marketing, and business strategies in the mobile banking context

Understanding Status Update in Microblog: A Perspective on Media Needs

    Get PDF
Microblog has grown popularly as a seminal social medium for timely information seeking and sharing. However, the reason why individuals update real-time information in microblog has not been well understood, and empirical research to address this specific information behavior is hardly available. As a felt urge can be conceptualized as a precursor of real-time updating in the microblog, we attempt to capture the underlying mechanism in causing this less reflective behavior urge. We apply the media needs theory to investigate how the individuals’ media needs spark their urge to update personal status in the microblog. In particular, we conceptualize the cognitive needs as related to information uniqueness, personal integrative needs as related to connectivity, social integrative needs as a unidirectional relationship, affective needs as positive emotions and tension release needs as negative emotions. An online survey was employed to validate the proposed model within 523 microblog users in China. The results suggest that the users’ behavior urge is significantly influenced by information uniqueness, connectivity, unidirectional relationship and positive emotions. Furthermore, among the five media needs, the affective and social integrative related factors strongly determine the personal real-time status update in microblog. The theoretical and practical implications are discussed in this paper

Students’ perceptions of the positive impact of learning with bogs: an investigation of influencing, moderating, and mediating factors

    Get PDF
This paper discusses students’ perceptions of the positive impact of learning with blogs in higher educational settings. The research model uses constructs from the social-cognitive theory and motivational model. Relevant hypotheses focusing on direct, moderating, and mediating influences were formulated. A survey was administered to 108 university students taking an undergraduatelevel course in management information systems in a Canadian university. Data analysis was done with the partial least squares structural equation modeling technique. The result shows that students’ perceived usefulness of blogs was not positively associated with their perceptions of the positive impact of using the tool to learn; however, perceived self-efficacy and enjoyment were found to be positively associated with positive impact of learning with blogs. With regard to mediation, the results show that perceived enjoyment was a significant mediator in the relationship between students’ perceived usefulness and their perceptions of positive impact of learning with blogs; the link between perceived selfefficacy was not mediated by perceived enjoyment. The result also indicates that perceived enjoyment moderated the relationship between perceived self-efficacy and usefulness. The implications of the findings for research and practice are noted
