Under-Subjective Knowledge, Compatibility, and the Impact on Adoption and Implementation of Technology
The purpose of the current study is to explore the impact of compatibility on the relationship between undersubjectiveknowledge, a concept we develop here in the context of technology adopt and implementation research,and technology adoption and implementation. To do so, we develop two versions of mobile systems for a controlledexperiment: 1) high compatible system and 2) low compatible system. The experiments are designed to test twohypotheses. Based on our hypotheses, we predict that compatibility may trigger a transformation from undersubjectiveknowledge to a condition of objective knowledge (and possibly, and less ideally, to a condition of oversubjectiveknowledge). Thus, the current study predicts that compatibility raise self-esteem or confidence andmitigates the negative effect of under-subjective knowledge on intention to adopt technology

A framework for the adoption and diffusion of Personal Learning Environments in commercial organisations: an exploratory study in the learning and development sector in the UK
This study presents an exploratory approach to identify the main factors of Personal Learning Environment (PLE) adoption and diffusion within commercial organisations. Utilising an inductive investigative approach via the use of Grounded Theory methodology, relevant adoption factors were identified and their resulting influence during various stages of the innovation diffusion process were proposed. Data was collected using semi-structured interviews followed by systematic analysis using a three-staged coding process. The results revealed 10 factors affecting the adoption of PLEs influencing the innovation diffusion process at various stages. Informed by the Technology Acceptance Model and Innovation Diffusion Theory, the proposed model could have important implications for key decision makers within commercial organisations, while adopting, rejecting and assimilating new technological innovations (e.g. PLE) for learning delivery
Innovation attributes and managers' decisions about the adoption of innovations in organizations: A meta-analytical review
The adoption of innovations has emerged as a dominant research topic in the management of innovation in organizations, although investigations often yield mixed results. To help managers and researchers improve their effectiveness, the authors employed a meta-analysis integrated with structural equation modeling to analyze the associations between the attributes of innovations, managers' behavioral preferences, and organizations' innovation adoption decisions in a mediated-moderated framework. Our findings offer evidence that attributes of innovations influence managers' behavioral preferences and, consequently, adoption decisions in organizations. We also observe the significance of the context in which the adoption decision occurs as well as the research settings employed by scholars. Finally, we discuss the theoretical contribution and practical implications of our meta-analytical results
Determinant Factors of E-commerce Adoption by SMEs in Developing Country: Evidence from Indonesia
The aim of this study is to investigate those factors that influence SMEs in developing countries in adopting e-commerce. This study is motivated by the fact that the adoption of e-commerce by SMEs, especially in developing countries, is still very far behind the adoption by large companies. Yet to be able to survive in the new economic era, which is the information era; businesses, including SMEs, are forced to adopt e-commerce. Non-adopters will be left behind by the adopters. In addition, studies regarding e-commerce adoption by SMEs are rarely found. Therefore, the results of this study provide a timely understanding of e-commerce adoption by SMEs in developing countries.
The model developed in this study is based on the TOE framework. Eleven variables are proposed as the factors that influence SMEs in adopting of e-commerce. These are organized into four groups, namely: technological factors, organizational factors, environmental factors and individual factors. Based on a survey of 292 Indonesian SMEs, it was found that perceived benefits, technology readiness, owners’ innovativeness, owners’ IT ability and owners’ IT experience are the determinant factors that influence Indonesian SMEs in their adopting e-commerce
A theory-grounded framework of Open Source Software adoption in SMEs

However, there has been little focus on developing valid frameworks that enable critical evaluation and common understanding of factors influencing OSS adoption. This paper seeks to address this shortcoming by presenting a theory-grounded framework for exploring these factors and explaining their influence on OSS adoption, with the context of study being small- to medium-sized Information Technology (IT) businesses in the U.K. The framework has implications for this type of business – and, we will suggest, more widely – as a frame of reference for understanding, and as tool for evaluating benefits and challenges in, OSS adoption. It also offers researchers a structured way of investigating adoption issues and a base from which to develop models of OSS adoption. The study reported in this paper used the Decomposed Theory of Planned Behaviour (DTPB) as a basis for the research propositions, with the aim of: (i) developing a framework of empirical factors that influence OSS adoption; and (ii) appraising it through case study evaluation with 10 U.K. Small- to medium-sized enterprises in the IT sector. The demonstration of the capabilities of the framework suggests that it is able to provide a reliable explanation of the complex and subjective factors that influence attitudes, subjective norms and control over the use of OSS. The paper further argues that the DTPB proved useful in this research area and that it can provide a variety of situation-specific insights related to factors that influence the adoption of OSS
RFID Technology Adoption in New Zealand’s Supply Chains: A Case Study Approach
The reasons for reluctance or hesitation in deploying radio frequency identification for supply chain management (RFID/SC) may rely upon firms’ ability to innovate. This paper presents the findings of a study of adoption of RFID in New Zealand’s supply chains. Three ability factors were found to be important in the adoption of the technology: Compatibility, Facilitating Condition, and Readiness. This study argues that applying these factors to the firm and its environment helps to evaluate the issues surrounding the firm’s ability to innovate. For example, it was found that RFID was simply not suitable in some business scenarios; RFID technology was not compatible with some existing supply chain applications; it was perceived there was little support for the deployment of RFID at various points in a supply chain; and supply chain partners were waiting for each other to deploy or initiate RFID. This paper follows on a previous survey on the uptake of RFID in New Zealand’s supply chains and discusses some of the challenges that firms face when evaluating the use of RFID/SC. We found some relationships between adoption factors that are worth pursuing. For example, it was found that Compatibility, Facilitating Condition, and Readiness are key “ability” factors affecting RFID adoption.

Influencing attitudes, changing behaviours and embedding a pro-sustainability mindset in the workplace: An innovation diffusion approach to persuasive communications.
Although several sustainability implementation frameworks have been proposed, researchers have not yet proposed theories or models to help organisations speed up the rate of sustainability diffusion and narrow the gap between what is known and what is put into use. This study sought to fill this gap by proposing a sustainability diffusion model. The model was developed from an exhaustive review of the corresponding literature. It uses Rogers' (1962) diffusion of innovations theory and Ajzen's (1991) theory of planned behaviour as a theoretical foundation. The model was tested and its structural architecture was validated in three different sustainability contexts; namely, duplex printing in UK universities; sustainable computing in service-based businesses; and sustainability culture in UK universities. The primary data was analysed statistically using SPSS, and structural equation modelling (SEM) in particular was used to validate the structural architecture of the proposed model. The SEM results indicate that the structural architecture of the theory of planned behaviour is well-founded. All the hypotheses that underline the theory's paths were supported. In contrast, the structural architecture of the diffusion of innovations theory was weakly supported. Some of the paths were rejected in at least two occasions. For example, the relationship between pro-sustainability knowledge and attitude was neither statistically significant nor directional. Moreover, several components of the 'verified' model turned out to be statistically insignificant or were rejected altogether. These were knowledge, perceived self interest, perceived persuader legitimacy, perceived consequences, perceived argument quality, trialability and perceived source credibility. Accordingly, once these constructs were removed and the model was restructured in accordance with the results of SEM analysis, an entirely new version of the 'sustainability diffusion model' emerged (See Figure IX-2). The architecture of the new model suggests that in order to speed up the rate of sustainability diffusion, change agents must emphasise the relative advantage, compatibility, subjective norm and the urgency of the pro-sustainability initiative under implementation and de-emphasise any complexities or risks associated with its operationalisation. Unexpectedly, the new version of the proposed model relies more on Ajzen's (1991) theory of planned behaviour as a theoretical foundation than on Rogers' (1983) innovation-decision process model. In other words, the new model maintained almost all the features of the theory of planned behaviour, but it only absorbed some, but not all, of the components of Rogers' innovation-decision process model. Nevertheless, the new model maintained its holistic nature. It still takes into account both the person-specific and innovation-specific factors that influence the diffusion, adoption and actualisation of pro-sustainability behaviours/initiatives

Determinants of social and institutional beliefs about internet acceptance within developing country’s context: A structural evaluation of higher education systems in Pakistan
This study aims to extend a model of technology acceptance to suit in developing country’s context.
The model attempts to identify relationship between social and institutional factors over behavioural
intention and usage. Recently, ‘acceptance and adoption of information technology (IT) in
multicultural setting’ is becoming topic of interest for IS researchers. In this line, numerous theories
and models are proposed to contribute in examining factors of IT acceptance and reluctance. It is
argued that the models in published literature are found culturally biased, which successfully present
results in only American and European context, however, their validity became questionable when
they were tested in south Asian countries context. Additionally, lack of research is observed to predict
individual’s cognitive behaviour of acceptance, which are influenced by social factors (i.e. peer
influence and superior influence, voluntariness, experience) and institutional factors (i.e. local
institutional management influence and top-level governmental policies influence). This study used
Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) based on Partial Least Square (PLS) method to analyse the
data. The results reveal that the proposed conceptual model achieves acceptable fit and the
hypothesised paths are valid
Lessons from implementing INFFER with regional catchment management organisations
Investment in natural resource management (NRM) by regional organisations in Australia has been widely criticised for failing to achieve substantial environmental outcomes. The Investment Framework for Environmental Resources (INFFER) is a tool for developing and prioritising projects to address environmental issues such as water quality and biodiversity decline, environmental pest impacts and land degradation. It aims to achieve the most valuable environmental outcomes with the available resources. During 2008 and 2009 INFFER has been implemented with a number of catchment management organisations (CMOs) throughout Australia. In this paper, we report on lessons from and implications of this experience. Data on implementation were collected in formal and informal ways from staff of organisations that were using INFFER and state agencies, including: an on-line survey, benchmarking questions at training workshops, a formal on-going monitoring and evaluation process tracking the use of INFFER by CMOs, and comments made in correspondence and informal feedback to the INFFER team. In this paper we describe issues that arise when implementing INFFER with regions and organisations, and how the INFFER team has attempted to address these. Key issues include a desire to consider the community as an asset and emphasise capacity building, a rejection of the need for targeted investment, and various difficulties associated with specific aspects of the Framework. Existing institutional arrangements, and the legacy of past institutional arrangements, remain serious barriers to the adoption of methods to improve environmental outcomes from NRM investment. A lack of rigour in investment planning has become accepted as the norm, and resistance to processes to improve rigour is common. However, many CMOs want to achieve better environmental outcomes with their limited funds, and we report on our efforts to work with them to achieve this by using INFFER.Research and Development/Tech Change/Emerging Technologies,
