Emphasis is placed upon the Space Station Freedom Program responses to specific recommendations made in the Advanced Technology Advisory Committee (ATAC) progress report 10, the flight telerobotic servicer, and the Advanced Development Program. Assessments are presented for these and other areas as they apply to the advancement of automation and robotics technology for the Space Station Freedom

The evaluation process was implemented as a collection of simulated soccer matches. A soccer-simulation software package was used as the test-bed as it provided the necessary features for implementing and testing the methodologies. The methodologies were tested through competitions with a number of available soccer strategies. Soccer game scores, communication, robustness, fault-tolerance, and replanning capabilities were the parameters used as the evaluation criteria for the mul1i-agent systems

    The purpose of the Office of Aeronautics and Space Technology (OAST) In-Space Technology Experiments Program In-STEP 1988 Workshop was to identify and prioritize technologies that are critical for future national space programs and require validation in the space environment, and review current NASA (In-Reach) and industry/ university (Out-Reach) experiments. A prioritized list of the critical technology needs was developed for the following eight disciplines: structures; environmental effects; power systems and thermal management; fluid management and propulsion systems; automation and robotics; sensors and information systems; in-space systems; and humans in space.     A Maturity Model for Operations in Neuroscience Research

    Scientists are adopting new approaches to scale up their activities and goals. Progress in neurotechnologies, artificial intelligence, automation, and tools for collaboration promises new bursts of discoveries. However, compared to other disciplines and the industry, neuroscience laboratories have been slow to adopt key technologies to support collaboration, reproducibility, and automation. Drawing on progress in other fields, we define a roadmap for implementing automated research workflows for diverse research teams. We propose establishing a five-level capability maturity model for operations in neuroscience research. Achieving higher levels of operational maturity requires new technology-enabled methodologies, which we describe as ``SciOps''. The maturity model provides guidelines for evaluating and upgrading operations in multidisciplinary neuroscience teams.Comment: 10 pages, one figur

    On the use of schedule risk analysis for project management

    The purpose of this paper is to give an overview on the existing literature and recent developments on the research on Schedule Risk Analysis (SRA) in Project Management (PM) to measure the sensitivity of activities and resources in the project network. SRA is a technique that relies on Monte-Carlo simulation runs to analyze the impact of changes in activity durations and costs on the overall project time and cost objectives. First, the paper gives an overview of the most commonly known sensitivity metrics from literature that are widely used by PM software tools to measure the time and cost sensitivity of activities as well as sensitivity for project resources. Second, the relevance of these metrics in an integrated project control setting is discussed based on some recent research studies. Finally, a short discussion on the challenges for future research is given. All sections in this paper are based on research studies done in the past for which references will be given throughout the manuscript

    Exploring the Integration of Agent-Based Modelling, Process Mining, and Business Process Management through a Text Analytics–Based Literature Review

    Agent-based modelling and business process management are two interrelated yet distinct concepts. To explore the relationship between these two fields, we conducted a systematic literature review to investigate existing methods and identify research gaps in the integration of agent-based modelling, process mining, and business process management. Our search yielded 359 research papers, which were evaluated using predefined criteria and quality measures. This resulted in a final selection of forty-two papers. Our findings reveal several research gaps, including the need for enhanced validation methods, the modelling of complex agents and environments, and the integration of process mining and business process management with emerging technologies. Existing agent-based approaches within process mining and business process management have paved the way for identifying the validation methods for performance evaluation. The addressed research gaps primarily concern validation before delving deeper into specific research topics. These include improved validation methods, modelling of complex agents and environments, and a preliminary exploration of integrating process mining and business process management with emerging technologies
