LTE-advanced self-organizing network conflicts and coordination algorithms
Self-organizing network (SON) functions have been introduced in the LTE and LTEAdvanced standards by the Third Generation Partnership Project as an excellent solution that promises enormous improvements in network performance. However, the most challenging issue in implementing SON functions in reality is the identification of the best possible interactions among simultaneously operating and even conflicting SON functions in order to guarantee robust, stable, and desired network operation. In this direction, the first step is the comprehensive modeling of various types of conflicts among SON functions, not only to acquire a detailed view of the problem, but also to pave the way for designing appropriate Self-Coordination mechanisms among SON functions. In this article we present a comprehensive classification of SON function conflicts, which leads the way for designing suitable conflict resolution solutions among SON functions and implementing SON in reality. Identifying conflicting and interfering relations among autonomous network management functionalities is a tremendously complex task. We demonstrate how analysis of fundamental trade-offs among performance metrics can us to the identification of potential conflicts. Moreover, we present analytical models of these conflicts using reference signal received power plots in multi-cell environments, which help to dig into the complex relations among SON functions. We identify potential chain reactions among SON function conflicts that can affect the concurrent operation of multiple SON functions in reality. Finally, we propose a selfcoordination framework for conflict resolution among multiple SON functions in LTE/LTEAdvanced networks, while highlighting a number of future research challenges for conflict-free operation of SON
Requirements for building information modeling based lean production management systems for construction
Smooth flow of production in construction is hampered by disparity between individual trade teams' goals and the goals of stable production flow for the project as a whole. Planner System™, called ‘KanBIM’, have been specified, and a set of functional mock-ups of the proposed system has been implemented and evaluated in a series of three focus group workshops. The requirements cover the areas of maintenance of work flow stability, enabling negotiation and commitment between teams, lean production planning with sophisticated pull flow control, and effective communication and visualization of flow. The evaluation results show that the system holds the potential to improve work flow and reduce waste by providing both process and product visualization at the work face
Reducing Message Collisions in Sensing-based Semi-Persistent Scheduling (SPS) by Using Reselection Lookaheads in Cellular V2X
In the C-V2X sidelink Mode 4 communication, the sensing-based semi-persistent
scheduling (SPS) implements a message collision avoidance algorithm to cope
with the undesirable effects of wireless channel congestion. Still, the current
standard mechanism produces high number of packet collisions, which may hinder
the high-reliability communications required in future C-V2X applications such
as autonomous driving. In this paper, we show that by drastically reducing the
uncertainties in the choice of the resource to use for SPS, we can
significantly reduce the message collisions in the C-V2X sidelink Mode 4.
Specifically, we propose the use of the "lookahead," which contains the next
starting resource location in the time-frequency plane. By exchanging the
lookahead information piggybacked on the periodic safety message, vehicular
user equipments (UEs) can eliminate most message collisions arising from the
ignorance of other UEs' internal decisions. Although the proposed scheme would
require the inclusion of the lookahead in the control part of the packet, the
benefit may outweigh the bandwidth cost, considering the stringent reliability
requirement in future C-V2X applications.Comment: Submitted to MDPI Sensor
Towards a Systematic Repository of Knowledge About Managing Collaborative Design Conflicts
Increasingly, complex artifacts such as cars, planes and even software are designed using large-scale and often highly distributed collaborative processes. A key factor in the effectiveness of these processes concerns how well conflicts are managed. Better approaches need to be developed and adopted, but the lack of systematization and dissemination of the knowledge in this field has been a big barrier to the cumulativeness of research in this area as well as to incorporating these ideas into design practice. This paper describes a growing repository of conflict management expertise, built as an augmentation of the MIT Process Handbook, that is designed to address these challenges.
Mission Control Center enhancement opportunities in the 1990's
The purpose of this paper is to present a framework for understanding the major enhancement opportunities for Air Force Mission Control Center/Test Support Centers (MCC's/TSC's) in the 1990's. Much of this paper is based on the findings of Study 232 and work currently underway in Study 2-6 for the Air Force Systems Command, Space System Division, Network Program Office.
