The Ten Most Basic Things I Can Tell You about Processing Literary Papers

    Get PDF
These little gems of knowledge that I gained over a couple of years spent exclusively processing literary archives got me through some pretty rough roads. While the basic archival principles I learned in school still applied, I nonetheless perceived some unique qualities in authors\u27 papers that required the adoption of special methods. So, in the spirit of state archival camaraderie, I\u27d like to share the ten most useful things I learned about processing literary papers for the benefit of those who haven\u27t had to deal with them yet

    Hansen Elementary School Counseling

    Get PDF
Last semester I had the opportunity to work closely with Jen Alexander, a school counselor at Hansen Elementary School. As a school counselor, Jen helps kids develop social skills, improve their learning, understand their emotions, and much more in order to help them thrive while they are in school. My poster discusses all the things I learned from interning at Hansen. It also goes into detail about what school counselors do, the best parts about being there, and research on Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and how they can affect kids

    William J. Pierce

Bill Pierce gets things done. When I became Dean of this Law School in mid-1971, Bill had already been on the job as Associate Dean for several months. My predecessor, Frank Allen, upon learning that Bill would be my choice for that position, had decided to appoint him immediately. There was no sense, Frank explained, in postponing the opportunity for the Law School to take advantage of Bill\u27s formidable practical talents. I soon learned what that meant

Learning from Experience: SASAH Communications Intern and Osborne Holdings Intern

I certainly learned about communications as a communications intern, and I certainly learned about copywriting as an intern copywriter at Osborne Holdings. However, what resonates the most with me a year after completing my experiential learning credits are not job-focused skills. Instead, what resonates the most with me are the things I learned about responsibility, valuing my skillset, and leadership. As an intern with SASAH, I learned that communication is not just a skill; it is a responsibility. I learned this as I ran the SASAH Instagram page through a school year that was cut short because of the COVID-19 virus, followed by an anxiety-ridden summer and a school year full of social distancing and online classes. As an intern copywriter, I worked directly with the founder of Osborne Holdings. For eight weeks I had the unique opportunity to watch an expert at his craft developing and implementing marketing strategies for various international clients. In doing so, I learned about what true leadership looks like. Today, with two internships behind me, I am confident in the value that my peers and I will bring into the workforce as humanities graduates. The world needs communicators and the world needs socially conscious leadership now more than ever. I am proud and excited to see all that my peers will accomplish

Teaching With Technology: Up, Up and Away With Parachutes in Primary Mathematics

In a teacher education institution just north of Sydney, a lecturer asked her students about their most vivid memories of learning about mathematics in their primary school years. By far, the most easily recalled positive experiences of mathematics involved some form of physical activity or the use of hands-on resources: One day the teacher organised for us to have a pizza party. The pizzas were divided into even pieces and we learned about fractions. I loved the way my teacher got us to use the things she found around her house in the classroom - . She\u27d bring them into our class and we\u27d use them in maths activities. We did cooking in our primary school class. I\u27m not sure if it was meant to be a maths lesson or not but we learned how to measure, how to cut up food into parts and how to estimate amounts. We did maths activities with parachutes. I really enjoyed that. We were all running around, laughing, counting and just doing maths
