Advanced flight design systems subsystem performance models. User guide: Environmental analysis routine library
A user guide for a library of interactive computer routines used to develop performance analysis models of specific environmental control and life support subsystems is presented
Delivering building simulation information via new communication media
Often, the goal of understanding how the building works and the impact of design decisions is hampered by limitations in the presentation of performance data. Contemporary results display is often constrained to what was considered good practice some decades ago rather than in ways that preserve the richness of the underlying data. This paper reviews a framework for building simulation support that addresses these presentation limitations as well as making a start on issues related to distributed team working. The framework uses tools and communication protocols that enable concurrent information sharing and provide a richer set of options for understanding complex performance relationships
For operation of the Computer Software Management and Information Center (COSMIC)
Computer programs for large systems of normal equations, an interactive digital signal process, structural analysis of cylindrical thrust chambers, swirling turbulent axisymmetric recirculating flows in practical isothermal combustor geometrics, computation of three dimensional combustor performance, a thermal radiation analysis system, transient response analysis, and a software design analysis are summarized
A Soft Robotic Cover with Dual Thermal Display and Sensing Capabilities
We propose a new robotic cover prototype that achieves thermal display while
also being soft. We focus on the thermal cue because previous human studies
have identified it as part of the touch pleasantness. The robotic cover surface
can be regulated to the desired temperature by circulating water through a
thermally conductive pipe embedded in the cover, of which temperature is
controlled. Besides, an observer for estimating heat from human contact is
implemented; it can detect human interaction while displaying the desired
temperature without temperature sensing on the surface directly. We assessed
the validity of the prototype in experiments of temperature control and contact
detection by human hand

Multimodal Affective Feedback: Combining Thermal, Vibrotactile, Audio and Visual Signals
In this paper we describe a demonstration of our multimodal affective
feedback designs, used in research to expand the emotional expressivity
of interfaces. The feedback leverages inherent associations
and reactions to thermal, vibrotactile, auditory and abstract
visual designs to convey a range of affective states without any
need for learning feedback encoding. All combinations of the different
feedback channels can be utilised, depending on which combination
best conveys a given state. All the signals are generated
from a mobile phone augmented with thermal and vibrotactile stimulators,
which will be available to conference visitors to see, touch,
hear and, importantly, feel
