    Structural models and structural change: analytical principles and methodological issues

    Structural analysis is the main topic of this paper and structural change is a dominant theme of the present work. The analysis of structural models and of theories of structural changes carried out in this paper has a double meaning. On the one hand, it allows to pick up several essential principles that characterize these models, on the other hand, it should allow us to reconsider some important methodological issues under a new light, such as different methods of decomposition of the productive systems, the problem of complexity and the strategies to reduce complexity. Moreover, the paper tries to compare Quesnay’s Tableau, taken as a benchmark model, with Leontief’s, von Neumann’s and Sraffa’s models to pick up the different features of these models with respect to his theoretical framework and also to identify their characteristics for structural analysis and structural change.

    This paper presents some recent advanced dataflow architectures. While the dataflow concept offers the potential of high performance, the performance of an actual dataflow implementation can be restricted by a limited number of functional units, limited memory bandwidth, and the need to associatively match pending operations with available functional units. Since the early 1970s, there have been significant developments in both fundamental research and practical realizations of dataflow models of computation. In particular, there has been active research and development in multithreaded architectures that evolved from the dataflow model. Also some other techniques for combining control-flow and dataflow emerged, such as coarse-grain dataflow, dataflow with complex machine operations, RISC dataflow, and micro dataflow. These developments have also had certain impact on the conception of highperformance superscalar processors in the “post-RISC” era

    Weber's Law and the Biological Evolution of Risk Preferences: The Selective Dominance of the Logarithmic Utility Function

    The paper offers a proof that expected utility maximisation with logarithmic utility is a dominant preference in the biological selection process in the sense that a population following any other preference for decision-making under risk will, with a probability that approaches certainty, disappear relative to the population following this preference as time goes to infinity.
