Loss terms in free-piston Stirling engine models
Various models for free piston Stirling engines are reviewed. Initial models were developed primarily for design purposes and to predict operating parameters, especially efficiency. More recently, however, such models have been used to predict engine stability. Free piston Stirling engines have no kinematic constraints and stability may not only be sensitive to the load, but also to various nonlinear loss and spring constraints. The present understanding is reviewed of various loss mechanisms for free piston Stirling engines and how they have been incorporated into engine models is discussed

Advances in structural and solid mechanics, including solution procedures and the physical investigation of structural responses are discussed
Corrugated Wall Effects in Vertical Concentric Ground Source Heat Pumps
Ground Source Heat Pumps (GSHPs) are recognized by the EPA as being the most environmentally friendly heating source. However, the high cost of installation has deterred their widespread adaption. In an attempt to improve heat transfer many vertical concentric GSHPs utilize a corrugated boundary between the core and return pipes, which current models ignore. We expand upon the current model in an attempt to determine the effect of this corrugation. We apply non-dimensionalization, perturbation and homogenization techniques to develop two different models of this system. We find that over several periods of corrugation the steady state temperature solution is independent of the amplitude of this corrugation for laminar flow profiles
Numerical Boundary Condition Procedures
Topics include numerical procedures for treating inflow and outflow boundaries, steady and unsteady discontinuous surfaces, far field boundaries, and multiblock grids. In addition, the effects of numerical boundary approximations on stability, accuracy, and convergence rate of the numerical solution are discussed
Aeronautical engineering: A continuing bibliography with indexes (supplement 232)
This bibliography lists 422 reports, articles, and other documents introduced into the NASA scientific and technical information system in October, 1988
Seventh Copper Mountain Conference on Multigrid Methods
The Seventh Copper Mountain Conference on Multigrid Methods was held on April 2-7, 1995 at Copper Mountain, Colorado. This book is a collection of many of the papers presented at the conference and so represents the conference proceedings. NASA Langley graciously provided printing of this document so that all of the papers could be presented in a single forum. Each paper was reviewed by a member of the conference organizing committee under the coordination of the editors. The vibrancy and diversity in this field are amply expressed in these important papers, and the collection clearly shows the continuing rapid growth of the use of multigrid acceleration techniques
