    Nietzsche and Christianity

The article presents connections between philosophy of Nietzsche and the Christian tradition. Author's considerations are not restricted to how Nietzsche assessed Christianity and what he thought of it, but rather: did he reason aptly, did he grasp it correctly. It is a fact that Nietzsche fights with Christianity, which does not prevent him from internalizing some Christian themes in spite of having a very superficial and incomplete picture of it. There are unquestionable differences in both doctrines such as the relationship to the issues of truth, compassion, transcendence, mercy and eternity. Nevertheless they share a large number of common elements: praise for authenticity, creativity and freedom, the ethics of dignity, the postulate of selfformation, appreciation of suffering, rejection of revenge and everything that is small and false, and finally, discipline of the will craving repetition as a confirmation of self, faithfulness to self

Between eternity and actualization: the co-evolution of the fields of communication in the Vatican

Most research on structuration or the appropriation of ICT in organizations has put aside the problem of dyschronies. It has not taken into account the differences in nature, speed, and temporality of changes that co-exist within an organization. To address this limitation, the author of this paper suggests a model based on the theory of practice and neo-institutionalist perspectives, so as to make sense of the co-evolution of intra-organizational fields. This model, which proposes a balance between various institutional tensions, has been worked out inductively from a longitudinal case study on communication fields within the Roman Curia, the administrative headquarters of the Catholic Church located in the Vatican. These tensions are related to socio-technical, socio-theological, socio-organizational, and socio-economic areas. A set of propositions regarding the link between intra-organizational fields and tensions and the relationships between intra-organizational fields (parallel, convergent, and competing evolutions) is proposed. Keywords: Dyschronies; structuration; intra-organizational fields; communication; medias; ICT; Roman Curia

Tale of a theologian without walls

    Get PDF
This article provides a detailed autobiographical account of two oddly coupled things. On the one hand, the author has been firmly committed to theology without walls since early childhood, including high school publications in a church newsletter and comingdown to a three-volume philosophical theology based on world religions, vulnerable to all perspectives. On the other hand, the author has been actively and deeply religious, including ordination in the United Methodist Church and being the dean of the United Methodist School of Theology at Boston University. Being religious in a particular way is compatible with pursuing theology without walls

Good evening, everyone! The rhythms and cycles of the University calendar bring us renewal and new opportunities. We now look forward with a strong sense of assurance that “He who began a good work in us” will continue to guide and direct our work during the coming 2011–2012 year. Let us remember and rejoice that our work is God’s work. We touch eternity every day as we work together to provide an “Education with a Christian Purpose” to a new generation. Please take a moment during the dinner to review the program, which chronicles many of the fine accomplishments of your colleagues and friends. Others will be recognized for reaching significant milestones of service to Olivet. We also welcome a fine group of new members to the faculty and staff. We hope you have a wonderful evening, followed by a rich and rewarding new academic year. God bless you! From Jill and John Bowlin
