An Experimental Review of Speaker Diarization methods with application to Two-Speaker Conversational Telephone Speech recordings
We performed an experimental review of current diarization systems for the
conversational telephone speech (CTS) domain. In detail, we considered a total
of eight different algorithms belonging to clustering-based, end-to-end neural
diarization (EEND), and speech separation guided diarization (SSGD) paradigms.
We studied the inference-time computational requirements and diarization
accuracy on four CTS datasets with different characteristics and languages. We
found that, among all methods considered, EEND-vector clustering (EEND-VC)
offers the best trade-off in terms of computing requirements and performance.
More in general, EEND models have been found to be lighter and faster in
inference compared to clustering-based methods. However, they also require a
large amount of diarization-oriented annotated data. In particular EEND-VC
performance in our experiments degraded when the dataset size was reduced,
whereas self-attentive EEND (SA-EEND) was less affected. We also found that
SA-EEND gives less consistent results among all the datasets compared to
EEND-VC, with its performance degrading on long conversations with high speech
sparsity. Clustering-based diarization systems, and in particular VBx, instead
have more consistent performance compared to SA-EEND but are outperformed by
EEND-VC. The gap with respect to this latter is reduced when overlap-aware
clustering methods are considered. SSGD is the most computationally demanding
method, but it could be convenient if speech recognition has to be performed.
Its performance is close to SA-EEND but degrades significantly when the

VOICE BIOMETRICS FUSION FOR ENHANCED SECURITY AND SPEAKER RECOGNITION: A COMPREHENSIVE REVIEW
The scope of this paper is purposefully limited to the 15 voice biometrics modalities discussed by Jain et al. (2004). The place of Voice within their classification scheme is reexamined in light of important developments that have taken place since 2010. Additionally, elements are added to Mayhew’s (2018) overview of the history of biometrics as an attempt to fill in missing gaps concerning Voice. All this leads to a reassessment of voice biometrics and how it relates to other biometric modalities. Speech segments that carry extremely high identity vector loads are discussed. The main assertion of this paper is that increased computing power, advanced algorithms, and the deployment of Artificial Intelligent have made voice biometrics optimal for use. Furthermore, the analysis of the compatibility among modalities, the estimation of inconvenience penalty, and the calculation of the arithmetic distances between various modalities indicate that the fusion of {Voice + Face}, {Voice + Fingerprint}, {Voice + Iris}, and {Voice + Signature} on the one hand, and of {Voice + Face +Fingerprint}, {Voice +Fingerprint + Signature} on the other, offer the best liveliness assurance against hacking, spoofing, and other malicious activities
Behavior quantification as the missing link between fields: Tools for digital psychiatry and their role in the future of neurobiology
The great behavioral heterogeneity observed between individuals with the same
psychiatric disorder and even within one individual over time complicates both
clinical practice and biomedical research. However, modern technologies are an
exciting opportunity to improve behavioral characterization. Existing
psychiatry methods that are qualitative or unscalable, such as patient surveys
or clinical interviews, can now be collected at a greater capacity and analyzed
to produce new quantitative measures. Furthermore, recent capabilities for
continuous collection of passive sensor streams, such as phone GPS or
smartwatch accelerometer, open avenues of novel questioning that were
previously entirely unrealistic. Their temporally dense nature enables a
cohesive study of real-time neural and behavioral signals.
To develop comprehensive neurobiological models of psychiatric disease, it
will be critical to first develop strong methods for behavioral quantification.
There is huge potential in what can theoretically be captured by current
technologies, but this in itself presents a large computational challenge --
one that will necessitate new data processing tools, new machine learning
techniques, and ultimately a shift in how interdisciplinary work is conducted.
In my thesis, I detail research projects that take different perspectives on
digital psychiatry, subsequently tying ideas together with a concluding
discussion on the future of the field. I also provide software infrastructure
where relevant, with extensive documentation.
Major contributions include scientific arguments and proof of concept results
for daily free-form audio journals as an underappreciated psychiatry research
datatype, as well as novel stability theorems and pilot empirical success for a

This reprint aims to collect state-of-the-art research contributions that address challenges in the emerging 5G networks design, dimensioning and optimization. Designing, dimensioning and optimization of communication networks resources and services have been an inseparable part of telecom network development. The latter must convey a large volume of traffic, providing service to traffic streams with highly differentiated requirements in terms of bit-rate and service time, required quality of service and quality of experience parameters. Such a communication infrastructure presents many important challenges, such as the study of necessary multi-layer cooperation, new protocols, performance evaluation of different network parts, low layer network design, network management and security issues, and new technologies in general, which will be discussed in this book
A Woman's Right to Know : Pregnancy Testing in Twentieth-Century Britain
The history of pregnancy testing, and how it transformed from an esoteric laboratory tool to a commonplace of everyday life. Pregnancy testing has never been easier. Waiting on one side or the other of the bathroom door for a “positive” or “negative” result has become a modern ritual and rite of passage. Today, the ubiquitous home pregnancy test is implicated in personal decisions and public debates about all aspects of reproduction, from miscarriage and abortion to the “biological clock” and IVF. Yet, only three generations ago, women typically waited not minutes but months to find out whether they were pregnant. A Woman's Right to Know tells, for the first time, the story of pregnancy testing—one of the most significant and least studied technologies of reproduction. Focusing on Britain from around 1900 to the present day, Jesse Olszynko-Gryn shows how demand shifted from doctors to women, and then goes further to explain the remarkable transformation of pregnancy testing from an obscure laboratory service to an easily accessible (though fraught) tool for every woman. Lastly, the book reflects on resources the past might contain for the present and future of sexual and reproductive health. Solidly researched and compellingly argued, Olszynko-Gryn demonstrates that the rise of pregnancy testing has had significant—and not always expected—impact and has led to changes in the ways in which we conceive of pregnancy itself

Our model is based on human-centric design factors and cross disciplinary collaborations for scalable data-driven enablement of smartphone, cellular, and video Teleconsul-tation technologies to link hospitals, clinics, and emergency medical services for point-of-care assessments of COVID testing, and for subsequent treatment and quar-antine decisions. A multidisciplinary team was rapidly created, in cooperation with different institutions, including: the Autonomous University of Baja California, the Ministry of Health, the Command, Communication and Computer Control Center
of the Ministry of the State of Baja California (C4), Colleges of Medicine, and the College of Psychologists. Our objective is to provide information to the public and to evaluate COVID-19 in real time and to track, regional, municipal, and state-wide data in real time that informs supply chains and resource allocation with the anticipation of a surge in COVID-19 cases. RESUMEN Proporcionamos un modelo para la implementación sistemática de la telemedicina dentro de un gran centro de evaluación de COVID-19 en el área de Baja California, México. Nuestro modelo se basa en factores de diseño centrados en el ser humano y colaboraciones interdisciplinarias para la habilitación escalable basada en datos de tecnologías de teleconsulta de teléfonos inteligentes, celulares y video para vincular hospitales, clínicas y servicios médicos de emergencia para evaluaciones de COVID en el punto de atención. pruebas, y para el tratamiento posterior y decisiones de cuarentena.
