Temporal and Spatial Data Mining with Second-Order Hidden Models
In the frame of designing a knowledge discovery system, we have developed
stochastic models based on high-order hidden Markov models. These models are
capable to map sequences of data into a Markov chain in which the transitions
between the states depend on the \texttt{n} previous states according to the
order of the model. We study the process of achieving information extraction
fromspatial and temporal data by means of an unsupervised classification. We
use therefore a French national database related to the land use of a region,
named Teruti, which describes the land use both in the spatial and temporal
domain. Land-use categories (wheat, corn, forest, ...) are logged every year on
each site regularly spaced in the region. They constitute a temporal sequence
of images in which we look for spatial and temporal dependencies. The temporal
segmentation of the data is done by means of a second-order Hidden Markov Model
(\hmmd) that appears to have very good capabilities to locate stationary
segments, as shown in our previous work in speech recognition. Thespatial
classification is performed by defining a fractal scanning ofthe images with
the help of a Hilbert-Peano curve that introduces atotal order on the sites,
preserving the relation ofneighborhood between the sites. We show that the
\hmmd performs aclassification that is meaningful for the agronomists.Spatial
and temporal classification may be achieved simultaneously by means of a 2
levels \hmmd that measures the \aposteriori probability to map a temporal
sequence of images onto a set of hidden classes
Skeleton-Based Human Action Recognition with Global Context-Aware Attention LSTM Networks
Human action recognition in 3D skeleton sequences has attracted a lot of
research attention. Recently, Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) networks have shown
promising performance in this task due to their strengths in modeling the
dependencies and dynamics in sequential data. As not all skeletal joints are
informative for action recognition, and the irrelevant joints often bring noise
which can degrade the performance, we need to pay more attention to the
informative ones. However, the original LSTM network does not have explicit
attention ability. In this paper, we propose a new class of LSTM network,
Global Context-Aware Attention LSTM (GCA-LSTM), for skeleton based action
recognition. This network is capable of selectively focusing on the informative
joints in each frame of each skeleton sequence by using a global context memory
cell. To further improve the attention capability of our network, we also
introduce a recurrent attention mechanism, with which the attention performance
of the network can be enhanced progressively. Moreover, we propose a stepwise
training scheme in order to train our network effectively. Our approach
achieves state-of-the-art performance on five challenging benchmark datasets
for skeleton based action recognition
Foundations and modelling of dynamic networks using Dynamic Graph Neural Networks: A survey
Dynamic networks are used in a wide range of fields, including social network
analysis, recommender systems, and epidemiology. Representing complex networks
as structures changing over time allow network models to leverage not only
structural but also temporal patterns. However, as dynamic network literature
stems from diverse fields and makes use of inconsistent terminology, it is
challenging to navigate. Meanwhile, graph neural networks (GNNs) have gained a
lot of attention in recent years for their ability to perform well on a range
of network science tasks, such as link prediction and node classification.
Despite the popularity of graph neural networks and the proven benefits of
dynamic network models, there has been little focus on graph neural networks
for dynamic networks. To address the challenges resulting from the fact that
this research crosses diverse fields as well as to survey dynamic graph neural
networks, this work is split into two main parts. First, to address the
ambiguity of the dynamic network terminology we establish a foundation of
dynamic networks with consistent, detailed terminology and notation. Second, we
present a comprehensive survey of dynamic graph neural network models using the
proposed terminologyComment: 28 pages, 9 figures, 8 table
