    CUDA-Optimized GPU Acceleration of 3GPP 3D Channel Model Simulations for 5G Network Planning

    Simulation of massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) channel models is becoming increasingly important for testing and validation of fifth-generation new radio (5G NR) wireless networks and beyond. However, simulation performance tends to be limited when modeling a large number of antenna elements combined with a complex and realistic representation of propagation conditions. In this paper, we propose an efficient implementation of a 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) three-dimensional (3D) channel model, specifically designed for graphics processing unit (GPU) platforms, with the goal of minimizing the computational time required for channel simulation. The channel model is highly parameterized to encompass a wide range of configurations required for real-world optimized 5G NR network deployments. We use several compute unified device architecture (CUDA)-based optimization techniques to exploit the parallelism and memory hierarchy of the GPU. Experimental data show that the developed system achieves an overall speedup of about 240× compared to the original C++ model executed on an Intel processor. Compared to a design previously accelerated on a datacenter-class field programmable gate array (FPGA), the GPU design has 33.3 % higher single precision performance, but for 7.5 % higher power consumption. The proposed GPU accelerator can provide fast and accurate channel simulations for 5G NR network planning and optimization

    The Bled eConference is the longest-running themed conference associated with the Information Systems discipline. The focus throughout its first quarter-century has been the application of electronic tools, migrating progressively from Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) via Inter-Organisational Systems (IOS) and eCommerce to encompass all aspects of the use of networking facilities in industry and government, and more recently by individuals, groups and society as a whole. This paper reports on an examination of the conference titles and of the titles and abstracts of the 773 refereed papers published in the Proceedings since 1995. This identified a long and strong focus on categories of electronic business and corporate perspectives, which has broadened in recent years to encompass the democratic, the social and the personal. The conference\u27s extend well beyond the papers and their thousands of citations and tens of thousands of downloads. Other impacts have included innovative forms of support for the development of large numbers of graduate students, and the many international research collaborations that have been conceived and developed in a beautiful lake-side setting in Slovenia

    Topology and interference analysis in macrocellular environment

    In the present day, mobile based data services have become increasingly popular among end users and businesses and thus considered as one of the important issues in the telecommunication network, because of its high demand. The telecommunication industry is continuously striving to fulfil this demand in a cost-efficient manner. Fundamentally, the performance of a mobile communication network is constrained by the propagation environment and technical capabilities of the network equipment. The target of radio network engineers is to design and deploy a mobile network that provides effective coverage and capacity solution with a profitable implementation cost. In order to reach this target, careful examination of radio network planning and choosing the right tools are the key methods. Network densification is considered as a feasible evolutionary pathway to fulfil the exponentially increasing data capacity demand in mobile networks. The objective of this thesis work is to study and analyse the densification of classical macrocellular network, which is still the dominant form of deployment worldwide. The analysis is based on deep ray-tracing based propagation simulations in the outdoor and indoor environment, and considers two key performance metrics; cell spectral efficiency and area spectral efficiency. For analysing the impact of network densification, different cell densities, obtained from varying the inter-site distances are considered. Furthermore, the network is assumed to be operating in a full load condition; an extreme condition in which the base stations are transmitting at full power. From the simulations, it has been illustrated that as a result of densifying the network, the inter-cell interference increases, which reduce the achievable cell spectral efficiency. The system capacity, on the other hand, is shown to improve due to the increase in the area spectral efficiency, as a result of high-frequency re-use, in the outdoor settings. Nevertheless, it is observed that the densification of macrocellular network experience inefficiency in the indoor environment; mainly arising from coverage limitation due to extreme antenna tilt angles. This calls for sophisticated methods such as base station coordination or inter-cell interference cancellation technique to be employed for future cellular network. For fulfilling the indoor capacity demand in a cost-efficient manner, the operators will be required to deploy dedicated indoor small cells based solutions

    A Bayesian Framework for Digital Twin-Based Control, Monitoring, and Data Collection in Wireless Systems

    Commonly adopted in the manufacturing and aerospace sectors, digital twin (DT) platforms are increasingly seen as a promising paradigm to control, monitor, and analyze software-based, "open", communication systems. Notably, DT platforms provide a sandbox in which to test artificial intelligence (AI) solutions for communication systems, potentially reducing the need to collect data and test algorithms in the field, i.e., on the physical twin (PT). A key challenge in the deployment of DT systems is to ensure that virtual control optimization, monitoring, and analysis at the DT are safe and reliable, avoiding incorrect decisions caused by "model exploitation". To address this challenge, this paper presents a general Bayesian framework with the aim of quantifying and accounting for model uncertainty at the DT that is caused by limitations in the amount and quality of data available at the DT from the PT. In the proposed framework, the DT builds a Bayesian model of the communication system, which is leveraged to enable core DT functionalities such as control via multi-agent reinforcement learning (MARL), monitoring of the PT for anomaly detection, prediction, data-collection optimization, and counterfactual analysis. To exemplify the application of the proposed framework, we specifically investigate a case-study system encompassing multiple sensing devices that report to a common receiver.     Semantic discovery and reuse of business process patterns

    Patterns currently play an important role in modern information systems (IS) development and their use has mainly been restricted to the design and implementation phases of the development lifecycle. Given the increasing significance of business modelling in IS development, patterns have the potential of providing a viable solution for promoting reusability of recurrent generalized models in the very early stages of development. As a statement of research-in-progress this paper focuses on business process patterns and proposes an initial methodological framework for the discovery and reuse of business process patterns within the IS development lifecycle. The framework borrows ideas from the domain engineering literature and proposes the use of semantics to drive both the discovery of patterns as well as their reuse
