Thesis (Master)--Izmir Institute of Technology, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Izmir, 2001Includes bibliographical references (leaves: 72-75)Text in English; Abstract: Turkish and Englishx, 75 leavesEver-increasing demand for high capacities brought by Internet usage forces designing faster transport networks for carrying information packets. In the last ten years much attention has been focused on transporting packets directly over the optical transport networks. Researches in this area range from simple electronic and optical switching/routing methods to hybrid and more complicated all-optical packet switching systems. However, major bottleneck in all these methods is designing fast, reliable and inexpensive optical routing/switching devices. In this thesis, a method for optical routing usmg fiber Bragg gratings is proposed. In this method, electronic interface is used only for routing information (routing table) update cycle while packet header extraction and switching is done in optical domain. Routing is performed optically by controlling the refractive index change in fiber gratings. Four bits of header (label) information is used for routing packets to three different output routes. The network is simulated and its performance is evaluated by special software of Virtual Photonics

Network strategies for the new economy

In this paper we argue that the pace and scale of development in the information and communication technology industries (ICT) has had and continues to have major effects on the industry economics and competitive dynamics generally. We maintain that the size of changes in demand and supply conditions is forcing companies to make significant changes in the way they conceive and implement their strategies. We decompose the ICT industries into four levels, technology standards, supply chains, physical platforms, and consumer networks. The nature of these technologies and their cost characteristics coupled with higher degrees of knowledge specialisation is impelling companies to radical revisions of their attitudes towards cooperation and co-evolution with suppliers and customers. Where interdependencies between customers are particularly strong, we anticipate the possibility of winner-takes-all strategies. In these circumstances industry risks become very high and there will be significant consequences for competitive markets

Analisa Perbandingan Waktu dan Kecepatan Transfer pada Multi Protocol Label Switching (Mpls) dengan Virtual Private Network (Vpn) untuk Perpindahan Dokumen pada Jaringan Komputer

MPLS (Multi Protocol Label Switching) technology has been developed and mostly used by the service provider on their main network. Data packets which forwarded from one router to another router can also use VPN (Virtual Private Network) technology. VPNs were developed in the field of computer networks now have many variants, such as MPLS VPN and VPN which connects between computers or a LAN through a public network is the internet. The purpose of this final task is build a lab scale VPN network with MPLS technology use Mikrotik router RB 750GL and create a VPN connection to the STTA campus network passing the public internet. Then do a comparative analysis of the time required and the speed of transfer on both the network. The results of a comparative analysis between MPLS and VPN with the same file capacity, it appears that the MPLS network is faster in time speed and transfer spee

    The End of Net Neutrality

In 2005, the FCC changed the competitive landscape of the high-speed Internet access industry by classifying both DSL and cable modem service as information services. While many hail this move as a victory for competition and free markets, others fear the ruling could jeopardize the future of the Internet. This iBrief examines the potential end of net neutrality and concludes that new federal regulations are unnecessary because antitrust laws and a competitive marketplace will provide consumers with sufficient protection

The prime objective of the study is to better understanding of the factors influencing customers’ mobile phone operators choice and change behavior as well as to explore the variation in the importance given by different customer groups while choice mobile phone operators. Both primary and secondary data were used and data were collected from 174 respondents by means of a survey method, using self-administered questionnaires distributed to the respondents at the study area irrespective of respondents’ socio-demographic characteristics. The study explored that call charge, network coverage, faster internet service and promotional package such as bonus on recharge, cash back on use are the main features that influence consumers’ mobile phone operators’ choice and switching behavior. The study also found that there are no significant differences between stayers and switchers with respect to influencing factors except factor 1, supplementary services and factor 2, value added services. Both groups gave more importance on service price and connectivity and mobility factors.  So, marketing strategies should be designed and executed by the companies to attract and retain their customers by lowest possible price, strong network coverage and faster internet service.
