Birth after emergency caesarean section: Women’s perspectives on the factors influencing their decision making

    Get PDF
The study explored the decisions women made in relation to mode of birth following a previous emergency lower segment caesarean section (emLSCS), particularly focusing on what different factors influenced women to choose a particular mode of birth and what they described as the rationale underpinning that decision. Participants were recruited from a population of students and staff within the School of Human and Health Sciences at a university in the north of England. Sixteen individuals were selected using convenience sampling, who then completed open-ended questionnaires. The questions were non-leading and asked the women to identify and expand upon factors that influenced their decision on mode of birth. Data were analysed using a basic thematic framework analysis. Many of the identified themes mirrored those well recognised in existing research: the woman’s previous birth, her perception of risks, the influence of professionals and the influence of peers were all apparent. One factor not explored in existing literature, namely a sense of duty to existing children, appeared to be strongly influential in this data set. Interestingly, it was observed that each woman’s philosophical framework and her relationship with the element of control substantially underpinned her consideration of key factors, leading her to an individual decision. This article provides an interesting insight into the complexity of individual decision making in maternity care. The findings highlight the fact that professional guidelines may fail to meet the personal and individual needs of their subjects. This is a thought-provoking topic for policy and guideline authors, as well as for the professionals who counsel patients through decision-making processes in maternity care and wider fields of healthcare

This research intends to ascertain the impact of work engagement as mediatior that affect relationships between challenge stressors and job demand toward employee creativity. The sample size of 120 respondents in this quantitative study were online ride-hailing drivers from Go-Jek, Grab, Shopee-Food, and Maxim who were located across some major cities and regions in Indonesian. Purposive sampling is used to collect the required data for analysis, and Google Forms are used to distribute surveys and questionnaire in online fashion. The result shows that challenge stressors has a positive and significant influence on creativity and work engagement, as well as the impact of job demand on creativity and especially for work engagement is not significant, then mediation role of work engagement did not confirm this relationship. Moreover, work engagement mediates the relationship of challenge stressors toward creativity

The political economy of reforms: Empirical evidence from post-communist transition in the 1990s

    Get PDF
Using a novel data set from post-communist countries in the 1990s, this paper examines linkages between political constraints, economic reforms and growth. A dynamic panel analysis suggests public support for reform is negatively associated with income inequality and unemployment. Both the ex post and ex ante political constraints of public support affect progress in economic reform, which in turn influences economic growth. The findings highlight that while economic reforms are needed to foster growth, they must be designed so that they do not undermine political support for reform.political constraints; economic reform; transition; growth; dynamic panel models

Using a novel data set from post-communist countries in the 1990s, this paper examines the link-ages between political constraints, economic reforms and growth. Results from a dynamic panel analysis suggest that public support for reform is negatively associated with increases in income inequality and unemployment. In addition, both ex post and ex ante political constraints referring to the extent of public support affect progress in economic reforms, which in turn determines eco-nomic growth. These findings highlight that while economic reforms are needed to foster growth, they must be designed in such a way that they do not undermine political support for reform.political constraints, economic reform, transition, growth, dynamic panel models

Nowdays, technology information development has opened trading through the internet. Digital trading better known as e-commerce is growing rapidly with support of digital communication facilities. Bukalapak.com is the research object because Bukalapak.com is one of the famous online selling sites in Indonesia which experience a decline in performance since its started on 2010 from its several digital indicators. One important aspect for online company is digital service. How does the digital service quality/e-ServQual affect the company's reputation? The purpose of this study is to analyze the e-ServQual influence on consumer trust, analyze the influence of consumer trust on corporate reputation, and analyzieng the effect of e-ServQual on companies mediated by consumer trust in Bukalapak.com users. The population of this study is 111 members of the community of Bukalapak Jakarta. Data was collected through surveys and questionnaire distribution and data analysis used is path analysis. The results of the study showed that e-ServQual has unsignificant negative on corporate reputation (direct effect), e-ServQual has a significant positive effect on consumer trust, consumer trust has a positive effect on corporate reputation, and e-ServQual has significant positive effect on corporate reputation mediated by consumer trust (indirect effect)

Adaptive analysis of thermal comfort in university classrooms: correlation between experimental data and mathematical models

Numerous studies are in progress to support adaptive models and to establish quantitative indexes to allow the subject to optimize his comfort conditions. With the aim of finding possible correlations between experimental data and experimental surveys for moderate environments, such as university classrooms, a multiple response questionnaire was elaborated, comprehensive of information for the static and adaptive model proposed by UNI-EN-ISO 10551. The questionnaire was applied in autumn, winter and spring in classrooms of the University of Perugia, Pavia and Terni. During the campaign, all data needed to calculate both Fanger and Wray comfort indices were acquired by instrumental surveys and questionnaire compilation. By means of results analysis the following couple of parameters were correlated: Predicted Mean Vote (PMV) versus the difference between the Equivalent Uniform Temperature and the Comfort Uniform Temperature (Teu - Tu) and the Predicted Percentage of Dissatisfied (PPD) versus the absolute value of the same difference between temperatures (|Teu - Tu|). For the first couple of parameters a linear correlation was found while for the second one a second degree polynomial relation was obtained. Finally values of Operative Temperature T0 and Equivalent Uniform Temperature Teu, obtained for each single experimental survey were compared, observing a very good agreement between the two quantities, with differences that exceed 0.1 K only for a few number of values

Clipping versus coiling for intracranial aneurysms

Background and purpose The aim of this study was to compare results of clipping and coiling for aneurysms of the anterior circle of Willis. Previous studies have not identified a clear superiority of one method over the other. Material and methods The study group included 165 consecutive patients. The assessment took into account the risk of death, neurological status according to the scale of the GOS and mRS, the incidence of early complications and quality of life measured by own surveys and questionnaire EORTC QLQ-C30 v. 3.0. Results Mean follow-up was more than four years. Early and late results of treatment after embolization and clipping for all patients did not differ. Evaluation of patients with bleeding aneurysms demonstrated better outcomes after embolization, however statistical significance was observed only in terms of symptomatic scale score of QLQ-C30 questionnaire (p=0.02). For patients with non-bleeding aneurysms better outcomes were obtained after clipping, but statistical significance was found only in the early results: more excellent results in GOS score at discharge (p<0.03) and fewer complications during hospitalization (p=0.02). Conclusions Results of treatment after clipping and coiling do not differ in total for all patients, but differ depending on the presence of bleeding. Patients with bleeding aneurysms achieve better outcomes after coiling, and patients with non-bleeding aneurysms achieve better outcomes after clipping

Background: Dengue fever has been a major health threat to Malaysia over one century since 1902. This situation is getting worse every year so that the government has taken an affirmative action to tackle this particular issue. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of government support, climate changes, public attitude, population growth, and environment on dengue infection. Also, this study considered the environment as a mediator construct as the past literature revealed its role in dengue infection model. Methods: In order to identify the relationship between exogenous and endogenous constructs, structural equation modeling (SEM) was used. Also, in order to identify the factors affecting dengue infection, measurement and structural model evaluation were applied. Using stratified sampling method, 670 questionnaires were distributed among prospective respondents from eastern region, but in turn, only 505 cases could be used after data cleaning process. Results: Considering environment factor as a mediator, the results show that public attitude and population growth have a significant impact on the environment, while government support, public attitude, and environment factors have a significant impact on dengue infection. Population growth was the most important factor affecting dengue fever. Conclusion: According to the results, dengue fever that emanating from four exogenous and one mediator constructs are adequate to discuss on respondent perception of dengue fever in Malaysia.
