Blind adaptive constrained reduced-rank parameter estimation based on constant modulus design for CDMA interference suppression
This paper proposes a multistage decomposition for blind adaptive parameter estimation in the Krylov subspace with the code-constrained constant modulus (CCM) design criterion. Based on constrained optimization of the constant modulus cost function and utilizing the Lanczos algorithm and Arnoldi-like iterations, a multistage decomposition is developed for blind parameter estimation. A family of computationally efficient blind adaptive reduced-rank stochastic gradient (SG) and recursive least squares (RLS) type algorithms along with an automatic rank selection procedure are also devised and evaluated against existing methods. An analysis of the convergence properties of the method is carried out and convergence conditions for the reduced-rank adaptive algorithms are established. Simulation results consider the application of the proposed techniques to the suppression of multiaccess and intersymbol interference in DS-CDMA systems
Multi-Step Knowledge-Aided Iterative ESPRIT for Direction Finding
In this work, we propose a subspace-based algorithm for DOA estimation which
iteratively reduces the disturbance factors of the estimated data covariance
matrix and incorporates prior knowledge which is gradually obtained on line. An
analysis of the MSE of the reshaped data covariance matrix is carried out along
with comparisons between computational complexities of the proposed and
existing algorithms. Simulations focusing on closely-spaced sources, where they
are uncorrelated and correlated, illustrate the improvements achieved.Comment: 7 figures. arXiv admin note: text overlap with arXiv:1703.1052
Blind equalization of DS-CDMA and MC-CDMA modulations in time-variant frequency selective channels
The paper addresses the blind equalization problem of spread spectrum modulations in the presence of fast time-variant frequency-selective channels. The basic assumption of the paper is that the channel response exhibits fast changes. A second goal of the paper is to force the definition of a universal CDMA blind equalization scheme that is capable of performing for DS-CDMA or multi-carrier CDMA signal modulations without any modification in the equalizer. The formulation of the equalization scheme allows the consideration of temporal and/or spatial diversity front-end receivers. The result is a high-performance system that uses a deterministic blind criterion to equalize the channel, avoiding the use of stochastic methods. The proposed technique performs direct channel equalization without previous channel estimation. Although the proposed equalizer in this work performs equalization at chip rate, this paper suggests a solution to achieve equalization at lower rates.Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version
Compressive Sensing for Spread Spectrum Receivers
With the advent of ubiquitous computing there are two design parameters of
wireless communication devices that become very important power: efficiency and
production cost. Compressive sensing enables the receiver in such devices to
sample below the Shannon-Nyquist sampling rate, which may lead to a decrease in
the two design parameters. This paper investigates the use of Compressive
Sensing (CS) in a general Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) receiver. We
show that when using spread spectrum codes in the signal domain, the CS
measurement matrix may be simplified. This measurement scheme, named
Compressive Spread Spectrum (CSS), allows for a simple, effective receiver
design. Furthermore, we numerically evaluate the proposed receiver in terms of
bit error rate under different signal to noise ratio conditions and compare it
with other receiver structures. These numerical experiments show that though
the bit error rate performance is degraded by the subsampling in the CS-enabled
receivers, this may be remedied by including quantization in the receiver
model. We also study the computational complexity of the proposed receiver
design under different sparsity and measurement ratios. Our work shows that it
is possible to subsample a CDMA signal using CSS and that in one example the
CSS receiver outperforms the classical receiver.Comment: 11 pages, 11 figures, 1 table, accepted for publication in IEEE

DSP-based ionospheric radiolink using DS-CDMA and on-line channel estimation
In this paper, a new blind multiuser detection algorithm is presented. It can both cancel multiuser interference and estimate the multipath channel response in a blind way. The method has been specially conceived for low coherence bandwidth channels such as the ionospheric channel and exhibits very low computational requirements. Real-time measurements from a fully digital HF radio-link are presented that confirm the reliability of the method for the ionospheric channel.Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version
