Hybrid quantum-classical unsupervised data clustering based on the Self-Organizing Feature Map
Unsupervised machine learning is one of the main techniques employed in
artificial intelligence. Quantum computers offer opportunities to speed up such
machine learning techniques. Here, we introduce an algorithm for quantum
assisted unsupervised data clustering using the self-organizing feature map, a
type of artificial neural network. We make a proof-of-concept realization of
one of the central components on the IBM Q Experience and show that it allows
us to reduce the number of calculations in a number of clusters. We compare the
results with the classical algorithm on a toy example of unsupervised text
clustering
Порівняння продуктивності квантово покращених та класичних алгоритмів машинного навчання на IBM Quantum Experience
Machine learning is now widely used almost everywhere, primarily for forecasting.
In the broadest sense, the machine learning objective may be summarized as an approximation problem, and the issues solved by various training methods can be reduced to finding the
optimal value of an unknown function or restoring a function. At the moment, we have only experimental samples of quantum computers based on classical-quantum logic, when quantum
gates are used instead of ordinary logic gates, and probabilistic quantum bits are used instead of deterministic bits. Namely, the probabilistic nature problems that provide for the determination of a certain optimal state from a large set of possible ones on which quantum computers can achieve “quantum supremacy” – an extraordinary (by many orders of
magnitude) reduction in the time required to solve the task. The main idea of the work is to identify the possibility of achieving, if not quantum supremacy, then at least a quantum
advantage when solving machine learning problems on a quantum computer.
Sublinear classical and quantum algorithms for general matrix games
We investigate sublinear classical and quantum algorithms for matrix games, a
fundamental problem in optimization and machine learning, with provable
guarantees. Given a matrix , sublinear algorithms
for the matrix game
were previously known only for two special cases: (1) being the
-norm unit ball, and (2) being either the -
or the -norm unit ball. We give a sublinear classical algorithm that
can interpolate smoothly between these two cases: for any fixed ,
we solve the matrix game where is a -norm unit ball
within additive error in time . We
also provide a corresponding sublinear quantum algorithm that solves the same
task in time with a
quadratic improvement in both and . Both our classical and quantum
algorithms are optimal in the dimension parameters and up to
poly-logarithmic factors. Finally, we propose sublinear classical and quantum
algorithms for the approximate Carath\'eodory problem and the -margin
support vector machines as applications.Comment: 16 pages, 2 figures. To appear in the Thirty-Fifth AAAI Conference on

Quantum exploration algorithms for multi-armed bandits
Identifying the best arm of a multi-armed bandit is a central problem in
bandit optimization. We study a quantum computational version of this problem
with coherent oracle access to states encoding the reward probabilities of each
arm as quantum amplitudes. Specifically, we show that we can find the best arm
with fixed confidence using
quantum
queries, where represents the difference between the mean reward
of the best arm and the -best arm. This algorithm, based on
variable-time amplitude amplification and estimation, gives a quadratic speedup
compared to the best possible classical result. We also prove a matching
quantum lower bound (up to poly-logarithmic factors).Comment: 18 pages, 1 figure. To appear in the Thirty-Fifth AAAI Conference on
