    In this paper we survey many results on the Dirichlet space of analytic functions. Our focus is more on the classical Dirichlet space on the disc and not the potential generalizations to other domains or several variables. Additionally, we focus mainly on certain function theoretic properties of the Dirichlet space and omit covering the interesting connections between this space and operator theory.     This paper develops and integrates major ideas and concepts on complexity and biocomplexity - the connectionist conjecture, universal ontology of complexity, irreducible complexity of totality & inherent randomness, perpetual evolution of information, emergence of criticality and equivalence of symmetry & complexity. This paper introduces the Connectionist Conjecture which states that the one and only representation of Totality is the connectionist one i.e. in terms of nodes and edges. This paper also introduces an idea of Universal Ontology of Complexity and develops concepts in that direction. The paper also develops ideas and concepts on the perpetual evolution of information, irreducibility and computability of totality, all in the context of the Connectionist Conjecture. The paper indicates that the control and communication are the prime functionals that are responsible for the symmetry and complexity of complex phenomenon. The paper takes the stand that the phenomenon of life (including its evolution) is probably the nearest to what we can describe with the term “complexity”. The paper also assumes that signaling and communication within the living world and of the living world with the environment creates the connectionist structure of the biocomplexity. With life and its evolution as the substrate, the paper develops ideas towards the ontology of complexity. The paper introduces new complexity theoretic interpretations of fundamental biomolecular parameters. The paper also develops ideas on the methodology to determine the complexity of “true” complex phenomena.\u

    On duality and fractionality of multicommodity flows in directed networks

    In this paper we address a topological approach to multiflow (multicommodity flow) problems in directed networks. Given a terminal weight ÎĽ\mu, we define a metrized polyhedral complex, called the directed tight span TÎĽT_{\mu}, and prove that the dual of ÎĽ\mu-weighted maximum multiflow problem reduces to a facility location problem on TÎĽT_{\mu}. Also, in case where the network is Eulerian, it further reduces to a facility location problem on the tropical polytope spanned by ÎĽ\mu. By utilizing this duality, we establish the classifications of terminal weights admitting combinatorial min-max relation (i) for every network and (ii) for every Eulerian network. Our result includes Lomonosov-Frank theorem for directed free multiflows and Ibaraki-Karzanov-Nagamochi's directed multiflow locking theorem as special cases.Comment: 27 pages.     Entropies from coarse-graining: convex polytopes vs. ellipsoids

    We examine the Boltzmann/Gibbs/Shannon SBGS\mathcal{S}_{BGS} and the non-additive Havrda-Charv\'{a}t / Dar\'{o}czy/Cressie-Read/Tsallis \ Sq\mathcal{S}_q \ and the Kaniadakis Îş\kappa-entropy \ SÎş\mathcal{S}_\kappa \ from the viewpoint of coarse-graining, symplectic capacities and convexity. We argue that the functional form of such entropies can be ascribed to a discordance in phase-space coarse-graining between two generally different approaches: the Euclidean/Riemannian metric one that reflects independence and picks cubes as the fundamental cells and the symplectic/canonical one that picks spheres/ellipsoids for this role. Our discussion is motivated by and confined to the behaviour of Hamiltonian systems of many degrees of freedom. We see that Dvoretzky's theorem provides asymptotic estimates for the minimal dimension beyond which these two approaches are close to each other.     Matricial Wasserstein-1 Distance

    In this note, we propose an extension of the Wasserstein 1-metric (W1W_1) for matrix probability densities, matrix-valued density measures, and an unbalanced interpretation of mass transport. The key is using duality theory, in particular, a "dual of the dual" formulation of W1W_1. This matrix analogue of the Earth Mover's Distance has several attractive features including ease of computation.Comment: 8 page
