Evolution of 5G Network: A Precursor towards the Realtime Implementation of VANET for Safety Applications in Nigeria
A crucial requirement for the successful real-time design and deployment of Vehicular Adhoc Networks (VANET) is to ensure high speed data rates, low latency, information security, and a wide coverage area without sacrificing the required Quality of Service (QoS) in VANET. These requirements must be met for flawless communication on the VANET. This study examines the generational patterns in mobile wireless communication and looks into the possibilities of adopting fifth generation (5G) network technology for real-time communication of road abnormalities in VANET. The current paper addresses the second phase of a project that is now underway to develop real-time road anomaly detection, characterization, and communication systems for VANET. The major goal is to reduce the amount of traffic accidents on Nigerian roadways. It will also serve as a platform for the real-time deployment and testing of various road anomaly detection algorithms, as well as schemes for communicating such detected anomalies in the VANET.

Software-Defined Network-Based Vehicular Networks: A Position Paper on Their Modeling and Implementation
There is a strong devotion in the automotive industry to be part of a wider
progression towards the Fifth Generation (5G) era. In-vehicle integration costs
between cellular and vehicle-to-vehicle networks using Dedicated Short Range
Communication could be avoided by adopting Cellular Vehicle-to-Everything
(C-V2X) technology with the possibility to re-use the existing mobile network
infrastructure. More and more, with the emergence of Software Defined Networks,
the flexibility and the programmability of the network have not only impacted
the design of new vehicular network architectures but also the implementation
of V2X services in future intelligent transportation systems. In this paper, we
define the concepts that help evaluate software-defined-based vehicular network
systems in the literature based on their modeling and implementation schemes.
We first overview the current studies available in the literature on C-V2X
technology in support of V2X applications. We then present the different
architectures and their underlying system models for LTE-V2X communications. We
later describe the key ideas of software-defined networks and their concepts
for V2X services. Lastly, we provide a comparative analysis of existing
SDN-based vehicular network system grouped according to their modeling and
simulation concepts. We provide a discussion and highlight vehicular ad-hoc
networks' challenges handled by SDN-based vehicular networks.Comment: 14 pages, 3 figures, Sensors 201
A Survey on platoon-based vehicular cyber-physical systems
Vehicles on the road with some common interests can cooperatively form a platoon-based driving pattern, in which a vehicle follows another one and maintains a small and nearly constant distance to the preceding vehicle. It has been proved that, compared to driving individually, such a platoon-based driving pattern can significantly improve the road capacity and energy efficiency. Moreover, with the emerging vehicular adhoc network (VANET), the performance of platoon in terms of road capacity, safety and energy efficiency, etc., can be further improved. On the other hand, the physical dynamics of vehicles inside the platoon can also affect the performance of VANET. Such a complex system can be considered as a platoon-based vehicular cyber-physical system (VCPS), which has attracted significant attention recently. In this paper, we present a comprehensive survey on platoon-based VCPS. We first review the related work of platoon-based VCPS. We then introduce two elementary techniques involved in platoon-based VCPS: the vehicular networking architecture and standards, and traffic dynamics, respectively. We further discuss the fundamental issues in platoon-based VCPS, including vehicle platooning/clustering, cooperative adaptive cruise control (CACC), platoon-based vehicular communications, etc., and all of which are characterized by the tight coupled relationship between traffic dynamics and VANET behaviors. Since system verification is critical to VCPS development, we also give an overview of VCPS simulation tools. Finally, we share our view on some open issues that may lead to new research directions
Characterizing the role of vehicular cloud computing in road traffic management
Vehicular cloud computing is envisioned to deliver services that provide traffic safety and efficiency to vehicles. Vehicular cloud computing has great potential to change the contemporary vehicular communication paradigm. Explicitly, the underutilized resources of vehicles can be shared with other vehicles to manage traffic during congestion. These resources include but are not limited to storage, computing power, and Internet connectivity. This study reviews current traffic management systems to analyze the role and significance of vehicular cloud computing in road traffic management. First, an abstraction of the vehicular cloud infrastructure in an urban scenario is presented to explore the vehicular cloud computing process. A taxonomy of vehicular clouds that defines the cloud formation, integration types, and services is presented. A taxonomy of vehicular cloud services is also provided to explore the object types involved and their positions within the vehicular cloud. A comparison of the current state-of-the-art traffic management systems is performed in terms of parameters, such as vehicular ad hoc network infrastructure, Internet dependency, cloud management, scalability, traffic flow control, and emerging services. Potential future challenges and emerging technologies, such as the Internet of vehicles and its incorporation in traffic congestion control, are also discussed. Vehicular cloud computing is envisioned to have a substantial role in the development of smart traffic management solutions and in emerging Internet of vehicles. © The Author(s) 2017
An overview of VANET vehicular networks
Today, with the development of intercity and metropolitan roadways and with
various cars moving in various directions, there is a greater need than ever
for a network to coordinate commutes. Nowadays, people spend a lot of time in
their vehicles. Smart automobiles have developed to make that time safer, more
effective, more fun, pollution-free, and affordable. However, maintaining the
optimum use of resources and addressing rising needs continues to be a
challenge given the popularity of vehicle users and the growing diversity of
requests for various services. As a result, VANET will require modernized
working practices in the future. Modern intelligent transportation management
and driver assistance systems are created using cutting-edge communication
technology. Vehicular Ad-hoc networks promise to increase transportation
effectiveness, accident prevention, and pedestrian comfort by allowing
automobiles and road infrastructure to communicate entertainment and traffic
information. By constructing thorough frameworks, workflow patterns, and update
procedures, including block-chain, artificial intelligence, and SDN (Software
Defined Networking), this paper addresses VANET-related technologies, future
advances, and related challenges. An overview of the VANET upgrade solution is
given in this document in order to handle potential future problems
