Strategic Management Model with Lens of Knowledge Management and Competitive Intelligence: A Review Approach
Purpose:
First purpose of this study is to discuss the synergic and separate use of knowledge and
intelligence, via knowledge management and competitive intelligence, in each stage of strategic
management process. Second purpose is to discuss the implications of each stage of strategic
management process for knowledge management and competitive intelligence and vice versa.
Methodology/Design/Approach:
A systematic literature review was performed within timeframe of 2000 to 2016. Extracted
information from reviewed studies was synthesized and integrated in strategic management
model of Fred David.
Findings:
A strategic management model with lens of knowledge management and competitive
intelligence is proposed. Each stage of knowledge management process has implications for
knowledge management and competitive intelligence and vice versa. In addition, synergic and
separate use of knowledge and intelligence results in effective decision making leading to
competitive advantage.
Research Limitations:
Learning curve of knowledge management and competitive intelligence and being limited to use
of Fred David model are among key limitations.
Practical Implications:
Experts of knowledge management, competitive intelligence, and strategic management can use
this study to gain competitive advantage based on knowledge and information resources.
Organizations should have knowledge management function as well as competitive intelligence
to support the strategy formulation, implementation and evaluation.
Social Implications:
Readers can take a view that how they can manage their knowledge and information resources
from a strategic perspective?
Originality/Value:.
This study proposes a strategic management model with lens of knowledge management and
competitive intelligence. Model discusses the ways for synergic and separate use of knowledge
and intelligence in each stage of strategic management, leading to competitive advantage. In
addition it discusses the holistic and integrated implications of knowledge management and
competitive intelligence for each stage of strategic management process and vice vers
The Research on CRM-based Knowledge Transfer Process
Customer relationship management ( Customer Relationship Management, CRM ) and knowledge management ( knowledge management, KM ) are currently hot research fields. Knowledge of customer relationship management is to support the activities of the enterprise customer relationship management. Enterprise CRM activities consist of a series of activities. But there is a big gap in knowledge, So this paper discusses the meaning of the knowledge in CRM, find out the characteristic of the Knowledge, and then constructs the knowledge process model for CRM by referring the traditional KM process model. Analyze each stage of the model and find out the efficient way for enterprises to conduct knowledge activities in CRM

Knowledge Management for Nonprofits: A Strategy for Organizational Sustainability
The purpose of this paper is to describe knowledge management strategies for nonprofits to promote and support sustainability of the organization. The paper frames knowledge management for a nonprofit within the context of the unique business model employed in the nonprofit domain. This business model sets the stage for the knowledge management strategy by identifying needs particular to nonprofits. Strategies are presented on the basis of identified concepts of sustainability for nonprofit organizations and the types of knowledge pertinent to meet the information needs. Additionally, the paper focuses on the roles of key stakeholders/players for nonprofits in knowledge management. The special aspects of nonprofit business model of revenue generation, volunteer workforce, cost-containment emphasis, leadership model, and importance of image and brand are stressed throughout the paper noting the importance of capturing tacit knowledge in order to sustain the organization for the future
Knowledge Governance in Abu Dhabi: Modelling-In the ‘Implicit’ For Organizational Innovation
This thesis, on knowledge governance, focuses mainly on the processes, strategies, and structure of capturing and transferring implicit knowledge among employees in the Abu Dhabi government entities. It identifies the method of utilizing and factors influencing the success of acquiring, storing, and transferring implicit knowledge through the activation of a Personal Knowledge Network (PKN) to improve organizational performance. The work is based on a comprehensive literature review of relevant academic and government resources, direct observation of the researcher, and a two-stage interview of personnel from different entities of the Abu Dhabi government. The discussions with the key players in knowledge management highlighted the needs of having a unified knowledge governance model. This research reveals the requirements for a model of knowledge management in Abu Dhabi government entities. The findings from the first stage of the interviews helped finalize the knowledge governance model to help capture the implicit knowledge in a Personal Knowledge Network (PKN). To examine the validity and applicability of the PKN model, and to understand its possible benefits, in the second stage around 25 interviews were conducted in five government entities in AD Emirate. The interviewees indicated that the elements of the model are effective and interrelated and that there is a likely to be a positive relationship between the application of the model and the four factors of success in knowledge management: Human-oriented, Organization-oriented, and Management-oriented and technology-oriented. The interviewees also believe that the application of the model is likely to achieve the desired outcomes of raising the productivity and performance of the individuals and the organization. The thesis recommends the use of the proposed model as a foundation stone to implement effective KM and promoting knowledge sharing culture in the government entities in Abu Dhabi. Further research to identify other factors influencing the application and outcome of the model, and to evaluate the outcomes of the model would be helpful for the government to apply the model and unify and generalize it among its entities
The effectiveness of negotiated agreements and its inspirations for Chinese knowledge mangement
Negotiated agreements have become a widely used management model with respective covenants for different social network context in European countries. Negotiated agreements between government and industry in which industry obliges to take 'voluntary' action to help realizing regional management objectives. This paper describes and analyses development of the use of such covenant model in European public administration practice. After an extensive evaluation of the effects of the covenants in the European social network context, the paper conducts a comparable study of the Chinese knowledge management also in social network context, and expose that Chinese knowledge management policy and knowledge management practice is still in the first stage of Europe public administration evolution. As a conclusion, the paper explores the possible application of covenants model in Chinese knowledge management
Knowledge audit made comprehensive thru 6 stages
A cliché that no one could deny today is one that sound as the following; “Knowledge is power”.We need to understand the fact that managing organizational knowledge recourses is as important as managing conventional organization resources.Knowledge management is a method, which aims to help organizations to effectively use knowledge.A knowledge
audit is often the initial step of a knowledge management activity. Henczel (2000) highlighted that the low regard of knowledge audit has been a contributing factor to the top-heavy high knowledge management failures over the years. Though there are knowledge audit models proposed in the past by other researches, these models still have many drawbacks. This paper aims to address these drawbacks by proposing a 6-stage Knowledge Audit Model; derived from a comparative study on knowledge audit methodologies. These 6-stages are centered on core processes and integrates the development of appropriate knowledge management strategies. The practical implementation of this knowledge audit model for knowledge auditing allows for the investigation and analysis of the current knowledge environment, the measurement of the risk and opportunities faced by the organization with respect to its “knowledge health” and finally the recommendation of appropriate knowledge management strategies to be undertaken
Maintenance strategy optimisation for infrastructure assets through cost modelling
In infrastructure asset management, maintenance strategies in terms of cost modelling is normally adopted to achieve two broad strategic objectives: to ensure that sufficient funding is available to maintain the portfolio of assets; and to ensure that a minimum cost is achieved while maintaining safety. The data and information required for carrying out cost modelling are often not sufficient in quantity and quality. Even if the data is available, the uncertainty associated with the data and the assessment of the assets’ condition remain a challenge to be dealt with. We report in this paper that cost modelling can be carried out at the initial stage instead of delaying it due to data insufficiency. Subjective experts’ knowledge is elicited and utilised together with some information which is gathered only for a small sample of assets. Linear Bayes methods is adopted to combine the sample data with the subjective experts’ knowledge to estimate unknown model parameters of the cost model. We use a case study from the rail industry to demonstrate the methods proposed in this paper. The assets are metal girders on bridges from a rail company. The optimal maintenance strategy is obtained via simulation based on estimated model parameters
