Implementing Session Centered Calculi
Recently, specific attention has been devoted to the development of service oriented process calculi. Besides the foundational aspects, it is also interesting to have prototype implementations for them in order to assess usability and to minimize the gap between theory and practice. Typically, these implementations are done in Java taking advantage of its mechanisms supporting network applications. However, most of the recurrent features of service oriented applications are re-implemented from scratch. In this paper we show how to implement a service oriented calculus, CaSPiS (Calculus of Services with Pipelines and Sessions) using the Java framework IMC, where recurrent mechanisms for network applications are already provided. By using the session oriented and pattern matching communication mechanisms provided by IMC, it is relatively simple to implement in Java all CaSPiS abstractions and thus to easily write the implementation in Java of a CaSPiS process
Introduction to orbital flight planning (1)
This workbook is designed for students interested in space flight planning, who after training, may serve as flight planning aides. Routine flight planning activities requiring engineering-type calculations and analysis are covered. Practice exercises and brief instructions are given for the programming and use of the hand calculator as well as the calculation of position and velocity in the orbital plane. Calculation of relative orbital position is also covered with emphasis upon celestial coordinates and time measurement
Rest-Frame Optical Emission Lines in z~3.5 Lyman Break selected Galaxies: The Ubiquity of Unusually High [OIII]/Hbeta Ratios at 2 Gyr
We present K-band spectra of rest-frame optical emission lines for 24
star-forming galaxies at z~3.2-3.7 using MOSFIRE on the Keck 1 telescope.
Strong rest-frame optical [O III] and Hbeta emission lines were detected in 18
LBGs. The median flux ratio of [O III]5007 to Hbeta is 5.1+/-0.5, a factor of
5-10x higher than in local galaxies with similar stellar masses. The observed
Hbeta luminosities are in good agreement with expectations from the estimated
star-formation rates, and none of our sources are detected in deep X-ray
stacks, ruling out significant contamination by active galactic nuclei.
Combining our sample with a variety of LBGs from the literature, including 49
galaxies selected in a very similar manner, we find a high median ratio of
[OIII]/Hbeta = 4.8+0.8-1.7. This high ratio seems to be an ubiquitous feature
of z~3-4 LBGs, very different from typical local star-forming galaxies at
similar stellar masses. The only comparable systems at z~0 are those with
similarly high specific star-formation rates, though ~5x lower stellar masses.
High specific star-formation rates either result in a much higher ionization
parameter or other unusual conditions for the interstellar medium, which result
in a much higher [OIII]/Hbeta line ratio. This implies a strong relation
between a global property of a galaxy, the specific star-formation rate, and
the local conditions of ISM in star-forming regions.Comment: 14 pages, 8 figures, 5 color, published in ApJ, updated to reflect

Fault-free validation of a fault-tolerant multiprocessor: Baseline experiments and workoad implementation
In the future, aircraft employing active control technology must use highly reliable multiprocessors in order to achieve flight safety. Such computers must be experimentally validated before they are deployed. This project outlines a methodology for doing fault-free validation of reliable multiprocessors. The methodology begins with baseline experiments, which test single phenomenon. As experiments progress, tools for performance testing are developed. This report presents the results of interrupt baseline experiments performed on the Fault-Tolerant Multiprocessor (FTMP) at NASA-Langley's AIRLAB. Interrupt-causing excepting conditions were tested, and several were found to have unimplemented interrupt handling software while one had an unimplemented interrupt vector. A synthetic workload model for realtime multiprocessors is then developed as an application level performance analysis tool. Details of the workload implementation and calibration are presented. Both the experimental methodology and the synthetic workload model are general enough to be applicable to reliable multi-processors besides FTMP
Self-Sufficiency in Pope County, Illinois
The struggles facing many Illinois families today did not begin with the current economic crisis. Economic security has been steadily eroding throughout the last few decades. Not only are more people than ever before without jobs, but over the long term the economy has shifted leaving fewer good-paying, family-supporting job opportunities available in the first place. This fact sheet utilizes the 2009 Illinois Self-Sufficiency Standard
