She\u27s Sold: Persuading American Women Through Advertising

This study attempted to analyze the effects of an advertising campaign on American women in to illustrate that these women are vastly unaware of just how influential advertising is on their thoughts and actions. It aimed to make women more aware of the presence of advertising in their lives by giving a brief history of the subject, by outlining some current claims in the field, and by introducing a new concept known as shared gender culture. To follow up on secondary research, this study also conducted an experiment on thirty-four women ages eighteen to fifty-five to discover their reactions to a new, never seen advertising campaign for beef. The study attempted to persuade and analyze the effects of persuasion. The study was conducted by survey and asked women their thoughts on and uses of beef before and after revealing the entire print campaign to them. Results showed that half of the participants were not persuaded by the campaign at all through their first and only viewing of it; 26.5% of the women consider themselves entirely invulnerable to advertising persuasion at all. Many women showed great distrust for claims in advertisements, calling them false. Those who did admit to persuasion did so out of a desire to be sexy, happy, healthy, and nurturing to others

In this paper, we attempt to predict the price of a real estate individual homes sold in North West Indiana based on the individual homes sold in 2014. The data/information is collected from realtor.com. The purpose of this paper is to predict the price of individual homes sold based on multiple regression model and also utilize SAS forecasting model and software. We also determine the factors influencing housing prices and to what extent they affect the price. Independent variables such square footage, number of bathrooms, and whether there is a finished basement,. and whether there is brick front or not and the type of home: Colonial, Contemporary or Tudor. Ziel der Arbeit ist es, Erkenntnisse aus dem Vergleich zu ziehen und zu beobachten, wie sich der Trend der Schönheitsideale und der Modemagazine in Zukunft verändern wird. Monitoring snowmelt at high temporal and spatial resolution: a method using standard digital camera images

The duration of snow cover and its hydrological and physical characteristics are crucial to High Arctic ecosystems. In this work terrestrial images taken via a standard digital camera are used to obtain information on the spatial and temporal variability of snow cover depletion in spring 2008. The research area Linnédalen is situated on about 78° northern latitude in western Spitsbergen, Svalbard. With respect to the relevant weather conditions and measurements on the snowpack the decline in snow covered area is analysed on a daily basis. The scope of this work is to contribute to a comprehensive image of the factors and processes controlling the timing and character of snow melt in the High Arctic. The strong linkage of snow cover to climatic conditions is particularly interesting in the context of Global Change. On the one side, changes in seasonal snow cover will directly aect the High Arctic ecosystem and on the other side the related change in surface albedo drives one of the most important feedback mechanisms in climate change.Die Dauer der Schneebedeckung sowie ihre hydrologischen und physikalischen Eigenschaften sind für arktische Ökosysteme von herausragender Bedeutung. In der vorliegenden Arbeit werden aus terrestrischen Aufnahmen einer Digitalkamera Informationen über die räumliche und zeitliche Variabilität der Schneeschmelze im Frühjahr 2008 gewonnen. Das Untersuchungsgebiet Linnédalen liegt auf etwa 78° nördlicher Breite inWestspitzbergen. Unter Berücksichtigung relevanterWetterdaten und Messungen an der Schneedecke wird die Veränderung der Schneebedeckung auf täglicher Basis ausgewertet. Ziel der Arbeit ist es, zu einem umfangreichen Verständnis der Faktoren und Prozesse beizutragen, die den Zeitpunkt und Ablauf der Schneeschmelze unter hocharktischen Bedingungen bestimmen. Die starke Abhängigkeit der Schneedecke von den klimatischen Gegebenheiten ist besonders in Hinblick auf eine zukünftige Änderung des Klimas interessant. Veränderungen wirken sich zum einen unmittelbar auf das Ökosystem aus und sind über die hohe Albedo der Schneedecke gleichzeitig zentraler Bestandteil des wohl wichtigsten Feedback-Mechanismus im Rahmen des Klimawandels

Frankreichs Kurs der Mitte in der Syrien-Politik

Nach der exponierten Rolle Frankreichs im Kampf gegen das Gaddafi-Regime in Libyen wird die französische Reaktion auf den blutigen Konflikt in Syrien mit erhöhter Aufmerksamkeit beobachtet. Die international diskutierte Frage einer Vergleichbarkeit der beiden Krisen prägt auch die öffentliche Debatte in Frankreich. Pointiert formuliert der Philosoph Bernard-Henri Lévy in der französischen Presse: "Wird Frankreich für Hula und Homs das tun, was es für Benghasi und Misrata getan hat?" Doch der neue Präsident François Hollande gibt sich zurückhaltend und verwahrt sich gegen eine Folgelogik, die aus der französischen Libyen-Initiative die Verpflichtung zu einer erneuten Führungsrolle in der Syrien-Krise ableitet. Kritiker dieser defensiven Politik werfen dem Präsidenten Passivität und mangelnde Entscheidungsfähigkeit vor und fürchten eine Schwächung der französischen Position im internationalen Machtgefüge. Der Vorwurf der Zögerlichkeit hat den neuen Präsidenten durch den ersten Sommer seiner Amtszeit begleitet. Doch allein die Persönlichkeit des Präsidenten ist eine unzureichende Erklärung für Frankreichs defensive Haltung in der Syrien-Krise. Anders als im Fall Mali, wo Frankreich eine aktive Rolle in der Vorbereitung eines Militäreinsatzes gegen islamistische Rebellen übernimmt, wählen Hollande und die französische Regierung in der Syrien-Politik bewusst einen Kurs der Mitte, der auf Sanktionen und humanitäres Engagement in enger Abstimmung mit den internationalen Partnern setzt und eine militärische Eskalation zu vermeiden versucht. Bestimmt wird dieser Kurs von innenpolitischem Kalkül ebenso wie von der außenpolitischen Kultur Frankreichs

Sequential Sales As a Test of Adverse Selection in the Market for Slaves

We propose an alternative test for adverse selection using notarial records for slaves sold in New Orleans in 1830. The experiment is simple and mimics the used car example originally proposed by Akerlof (1970). When first sold in New Orleans, buyers of imported slaves were uninformed of the slaves' unobservable characteristics. In time, the new owners learned more about their slaves and the "lemons" were sold and the "peaches" retained. Because buyers anticipate that the slaves offered for sale were of lower quality on average, they reduce their bids for these slaves. Consequently, we should observe a lower price for the slaves who were resold in the market. We test this proposition by linking the sequential sales records of 833 slaves sold in New Orleans. Through a comparison of initial and resale prices, we find that prices increased which suggests that adverse selection had a relatively small effect on the prices of slaves.slavery, human capital

The Producer Price Index (PPI) measures the average change over time in the selling prices received by domestic producers for their output. The PPI provides measures of final demand (price changes for goods, services, and construction sold to consumers, capital investment buyers, government, and export) and intermediate demand (price changes for goods, services, and construction sold to businesses, excluding capital investment goods, as inputs to production).
