Embedding Requirements within the Model Driven Architecture

    Get PDF
The Model Driven Architecture (MDA) brings benefits to software development, among them the potential for connecting software models with the business domain. This paper focuses on the upstream or Computation Independent Model (CIM) phase of the MDA. Our contention is that, whilst there are many models and notations available within the CIM Phase, those that are currently popular and supported by the Object Management Group (OMG), may not be the most useful notations for business analysts nor sufficient to fully support software requirements and specification. Therefore, with specific emphasis on the value of the Business Process Modelling Notation (BPMN) for business analysts, this paper provides an example of a typical CIM approach before describing an approach which incorporates specific requirements techniques. A framework extension to the MDA is then introduced; which embeds requirements and specification within the CIM, thus further enhancing the utility of MDA by providing a more complete method for business analysis

Formulating the cognitive design problem of air traffic management

Evolutionary approaches to cognitive design in the air traffic management (ATM) system can be attributed with a history of delayed developments. This issue is well illustrated in the case of the flight progress strip where attempts to design a computer-based system to replace the paper strip have consistently been met with rejection. An alternative approach to cognitive design of air traffic management is needed and this paper proposes an approach centred on the formulation of cognitive design problems. The paper gives an account of how a cognitive design problem was formulated for a simulated ATM task performed by controller subjects in the laboratory. The problem is formulated in terms of two complimentary models. First, a model of the ATM domain describes the cognitive task environment of managing the simulated air traffic. Second, a model of the ATM worksystem describes the abstracted cognitive behaviours of the controllers and their tools in performing the traffic management task. Taken together, the models provide a statement of worksystem performance, and express the cognitive design problem for the simulated system. The use of the problem formulation in supporting cognitive design, including the design of computer-based flight strips, is discussed

This paper presents concept of a database system on a computer software systems. Requirements in analysis and design are a serious problem in developing a manual system into a computer software system that is fully automated. To link the two systems (manual and automatic), a modeling language Unified Modeling Language (UML) is now accepted as the de facto standard for the design and specification of object-oriented systems. In this study, ULM modeling language used to design a management information system (MIS) of Toilet Maintenance on the Faculty of Engineering, Lambung Mangkurat University using Access 2013. From this system, dean as admin of the system, can immediately know the damage or the need of maintenance in real time every day. Such information would greatly assist the management on making decision related to monitoring, maintenance and repair of toilet in the Faculty of Engineering, Lambung Mangkurat University. The final results is to keep the cleanliness and reliability of toilet in the Faculty of Engineering, Lambung Mangkurat University

Performance evaluation of enterprise architecture using fuzzy sequence diagram

    Get PDF
Developing an Enterprise Architecture is a complex task and to control the complexity of the regulatory framework we need to measure the relative performance of one system against other available systems. On the other hand, enterprise architecture cannot be organized without the use of a logical structure. The framework provides a logical structure for classifying architectural output. Among the common architectural framework, the C4ISR framework and methodology of the product is one of the most popular techniques. In this paper, given the existing uncertainties in system development and information systems, a new version of UML called Fuzzy-UML is proposed for enterprise architecture development based on fuzzy Petri nets. In addition, the performance of the system is also evaluated based on Fuzzy sequence diagram

Application of Technology Acceptance Model on Database Normalizer

    Get PDF
Normalization is one of the most important activities in database designing. The good database design is the database that meets user requirements and designed its structure carefully. Therefore, this study focused on developing a database normalization application that helps database designers to perform the normalization process automatically and improves the database designing by avoiding the problems of carrying out normalization manually which has many drawbacks such as time consuming, prone to errors and requires more than one skilled user. The main objective of this study is to develop a database normalizer application to normalize the database tables up to the third normal form (3NF). This study provides a normalization algorithm to perform the 1NF, 2NF, and 3NF automatically based on Microsoft Access and SQL Server databases. Experiment was conducted to check the functionality in performing the normalization process. The experiment result showed that the prototype achieved the result successfully as expected and fulfills the requirements and rules of normalization processes. Moreover, a questionnaire based on the Technology Acceptance Model technique has been adopted to ensure of the prototype level in terms of easiness of use, and satisfaction

Strengthening America's Best Idea: An Independent Review of the National Park Service's Natural Resource Stewardship and Science Directorate

NRSS requested that an independent panel of the National Academy conduct a review of its effectiveness in five core functions, its relationships with key internal stakeholders, and its performance measurement system. Among other things, the National Park Service's Natural Resource Stewardship and Science Directorate (NRSS) is responsible for providing usable natural and social science information throughout the National Park Service (NPS). NRSS leadership requested this review of the directorate's performance on five core functions, its relationships with key internal NPS stakeholders, and its performance measurement system.Main FindingsThe panel determined that NRSS is a highly regarded organization that provides independent, credible scientific expertise and technical information. The panel also found that NRSS and NPS have additional opportunities to advance natural resource stewardship throughout the Service. If implemented, the panel's eight major recommendations will: (1) help the Service respond to the parks' environmental challenges while raising public awareness about the condition of these special places; (2) strengthen NRSS as an organization; (3) promote scientifically based decision-making at the national, regional, and park levels; and (4) improve the existing performance measurement system
