Social Requirements for Virtual Organization Breeding Environments
The creation of Virtual Breeding Environments (VBE) is a topic which has
received too little attention: in most former works, the existence of the VBE
is either assumed, or is considered as the result of the voluntary,
participatory gathering of a set of candidate companies. In this paper, the
creation of a VBE by a third authority is considered: chambers of commerce, as
organizations whose goal is to promote and facilitate business interests and
activity in the community, could be good candidates for exogenous VBE creators.
During VBE planning, there is a need to specify social requirements for the
VBE. In this paper, SNA metrics are proposed as a way for a VBE planner to
express social requirements for a VBE to be created. Additionally, a set of
social requirements for VO planners, VO brokers, and VBE members are proposed.Comment: 10 pages, 2 figure
Agile and Pro-Active Public Administration as a Collaborative Networked Organization
In highly competitive, globalized economies and societies of always-on-line
people intensively using the Internet and mobile phones, public administrations
have to adapt to new challenges. Enterprises and citizens expect public
administrations to be agile and pro-active to foster development. A way to
achieve agility and pro-activity is application of a model of Collaborative
Network Organizations in its two forms: Virtual Organizations (VO) and Virtual
Organization Breeding Environments (VOBE). In the paper, advantages are shown
of public administration playing a role of a Virtual Organization customer on
the one hand, and a Virtual Organization member on the other hand. It is also
shown how public administration playing a role of a Virtual Organization
Breeding Environment may improve its agility and promote advanced technologies
and management methods among local organizations. It is argued in the paper
that public administration should provide a Virtual Organization Breeding

Modeling Virtual Organization Architecture with the Virtual Organization Breeding Methodology
While Enterprise Architecture Modeling (EAM) methodologies become more and
more popular, an EAM methodology tailored to the needs of virtual organizations
(VO) is still to be developed. Among the most popular EAM methodologies, TOGAF
has been chosen as the basis for a new EAM methodology taking into account
characteristics of VOs presented in this paper. In this new methodology,
referred as Virtual Organization Breeding Methodology (VOBM), concepts
developed within the ECOLEAD project, e.g. the concept of Virtual Breeding
Environment (VBE) or the VO creation schema, serve as fundamental elements for
development of VOBM. VOBM is a generic methodology that should be adapted to a
given VBE. VOBM defines the structure of VBE and VO architectures in a
service-oriented environment, as well as an architecture development method for
virtual organizations (ADM4VO). Finally, a preliminary set of tools and methods

Towards a Formal Model of Privacy-Sensitive Dynamic Coalitions
The concept of dynamic coalitions (also virtual organizations) describes the
temporary interconnection of autonomous agents, who share information or
resources in order to achieve a common goal. Through modern technologies these
coalitions may form across company, organization and system borders. Therefor
questions of access control and security are of vital significance for the
architectures supporting these coalitions.
In this paper, we present our first steps to reach a formal framework for
modeling and verifying the design of privacy-sensitive dynamic coalition
infrastructures and their processes. In order to do so we extend existing
dynamic coalition modeling approaches with an access-control-concept, which
manages access to information through policies. Furthermore we regard the
processes underlying these coalitions and present first works in formalizing
these processes. As a result of the present paper we illustrate the usefulness
of the Abstract State Machine (ASM) method for this task. We demonstrate a
formal treatment of privacy-sensitive dynamic coalitions by two example ASMs
which model certain access control situations. A logical consideration of these
ASMs can lead to a better understanding and a verification of the ASMs

Open semantic service networks
Online service marketplaces will soon be part of the economy to scale the provision of specialized multi-party services through automation and standardization. Current research, such as the *-USDL service description language family, is already defining the basic building blocks to model the next generation of business services. Nonetheless, the developments being made do not target to interconnect services via service relationships. Without the concept of relationship, marketplaces will be seen as mere functional silos containing service descriptions. Yet, in real economies, all services are related and connected. Therefore, to address this gap we introduce the concept of open semantic service network (OSSN), concerned with the establishment of rich relationships between services. These networks will provide valuable knowledge on the global service economy, which can be exploited for many socio-economic and scientific purposes such as service network analysis, management, and control
The role of digital technologies in the innovation of collaborative networks: The case of the ornamental stones in Portugal
This exploratory research outlines an innovative business model for the ornamental stones, in Portugal, targeting World Class Manufacturing. Research questions arise from an inductive approach empirically based on a participant-observer that participated in JETSTONE and INOVSTONE, two important Mobilising Projects for the cluster. A collaborative network pursuing a Service Systems view, leveraged by digital technologies was proposed based on a 3-stage development facilitated by the ARCON framework (ECOLEAD project), as follows: development of a general VBE/VO model completed by knowledge coming from BIM, Industry 4.0, IoT and Service Science backgrounds, in order to build up a specific model to the ornamental stones Industry. Finally, the specific model should be verified by case studies as demonstrating instances. While the generic VBE/VO might be customized to other domains, the specific model generates a representation of the Industry and the case studies serve as instances to verify it.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Understanding the impact of crop and food production on the water environment ‐using sugar as a model
The availability of fresh water and the quality of aquatic ecosystems are important global concerns, and agriculture plays a major role. Consumers and manufacturers are increasingly sensitive to sustainability issues related to processed food products and drinks. The present study examines the production of sugar from the growing cycle through to processing to the factory gate, and identifies the potential impacts on water scarcity and quality and the ways in which the impact of water use can be minimised. We have reviewed the production phases and processing steps, and how calculations of water use can be complicated, or in some cases how assessments can be relatively straightforward. Finally, we outline several ways that growers and sugar processors are improving the efficiency of water use and reducing environmental impact, and where further advances can be made.
