    Revisit the Concept of PEKS: Problems and a Possible Solution

    Since Boneh et al. propose the concept, non-interactive\ud Public-key Encryption with Keyword Search (PEKS) has attracted lots of attention from cryptographers. Non-interactive PEKS enables a third party to test whether or not a tag, generated by the message sender, and a trapdoor, generated by the receiver, contain the same keyword without revealing further information. In this paper we investigate a non-interactive PEKS application proposed by Boneh et al. and show our observations, especially that privacy is\ud not protected against a curious server. We propose the notion of interactive PEKS, which, in contrast to non-interactive PEKS, requires the tag to be generated interactively by the message sender and the receiver. For this new primitive, we identify two types of adversaries, namely a curious user and a curious server, and provide\ud security formulations for the desirable properties. We propose a construction for interactive PEKS and prove its security in the proposed security model

    TagBook: A Semantic Video Representation without Supervision for Event Detection

    We consider the problem of event detection in video for scenarios where only few, or even zero examples are available for training. For this challenging setting, the prevailing solutions in the literature rely on a semantic video representation obtained from thousands of pre-trained concept detectors. Different from existing work, we propose a new semantic video representation that is based on freely available social tagged videos only, without the need for training any intermediate concept detectors. We introduce a simple algorithm that propagates tags from a video's nearest neighbors, similar in spirit to the ones used for image retrieval, but redesign it for video event detection by including video source set refinement and varying the video tag assignment. We call our approach TagBook and study its construction, descriptiveness and detection performance on the TRECVID 2013 and 2014 multimedia event detection datasets and the Columbia Consumer Video dataset. Despite its simple nature, the proposed TagBook video representation is remarkably effective for few-example and zero-example event detection, even outperforming very recent state-of-the-art alternatives building on supervised representations.Comment: accepted for publication as a regular paper in the IEEE Transactions on Multimedi

    Factoring Predicate Argument and Scope Semantics : underspecified Semantics with LTAG

    In this paper we propose a compositional semantics for lexicalized tree-adjoining grammar (LTAG). Tree-local multicomponent derivations allow separation of the semantic contribution of a lexical item into one component contributing to the predicate argument structure and a second component contributing to scope semantics. Based on this idea a syntax-semantics interface is presented where the compositional semantics depends only on the derivation structure. It is shown that the derivation structure (and indirectly the locality of derivations) allows an appropriate amount of underspecification. This is illustrated by investigating underspecified representations for quantifier scope ambiguities and related phenomena such as adjunct scope and island constraints

    Web 2.0, not the Semantic Web, has become the face of ā€œthe next generation Webā€ among the tech-literate set, and even among many in the various research communities involved in the Web. Perceptions in these communities of what the Semantic Web is (and who is involved in it) are often misinformed if not misguided. In this paper we identify opportunities for Semantic Web activities to connect with the Web 2.0 community; we explore why this connection is of significant benefit to both groups, and identify how these connections open valuable research opportunities ā€œin the realā€ for the Semantic Web effort

    Automatic acquisition of Spanish LFG resources from the Cast3LB treebank

    In this paper, we describe the automatic annotation of the Cast3LB Treebank with LFG f-structures for the subsequent extraction of Spanish probabilistic grammar and lexical resources. We adapt the approach and methodology of Cahill et al. (2004), Oā€™Donovan et al. (2004) and elsewhere for English to Spanish and the Cast3LB treebank encoding. We report on the quality and coverage of the automatic f-structure annotation. Following the pipeline and integrated models of Cahill et al. (2004), we extract wide-coverage probabilistic LFG approximations and parse unseen Spanish text into f-structures. We also extend Bikelā€™s (2002) Multilingual Parse Engine to include a Spanish language module. Using the retrained Bikel parser in the pipeline model gives the best results against a manually constructed gold standard (73.20% predsonly f-score). We also extract Spanish lexical resources: 4090 semantic form types with 98 frame types. Subcategorised prepositions and particles are included in the frames
