Selecting the best supply chain by goal programming and network data envelopment analysis
Today, one of the most important problems of decision makers in most organizations is to choose the best supply chain. The main objective of this paper is to choose the best supply chain. To select the best supply chain this paper presents a model based on goal programming and network data envelopment analysis (NDEA). The proposed model enables decision makers to compare supply chains with predetermined goals. A case study is presented to validate the proposed model
Supplier Selection by the Pair of Nondiscretionary Factors-Imprecise Data Envelopment Analysis Models
Discretionary models for evaluating the efficiency of suppliers assume that all criteria are discretionary, that is, controlled by the management of each supplier and varied at its discretion. These models do not assume supplier selection in the conditions that some factors are nondiscretionary. The objective of this paper is to propose a new pair of nondiscretionary factors-imprecise data envelopment analysis (NF-IDEA) models for selecting the best suppliers in the presence of nondiscretionary factors and imprecise data. A numerical example demonstrates the application of the proposed method.Full Tex
Analyzing the solutions of DEA through information visualization and data mining techniques: SmartDEA framework
Data envelopment analysis (DEA) has proven to be a useful tool for assessing efficiency or productivity of organizations, which is of vital practical importance in managerial decision making. DEA provides a significant amount of information from which analysts and managers derive insights and guidelines to promote their existing performances. Regarding to this fact, effective and methodologic analysis and interpretation of DEA solutions are very critical. The main objective of this study is then to develop a general decision support system (DSS) framework to analyze the solutions of basic DEA models. The paper formally shows how the solutions of DEA models should be structured so that these solutions can be examined and interpreted by analysts through information visualization and data mining techniques effectively. An innovative and convenient DEA solver, SmartDEA, is designed and developed in accordance with the proposed analysis framework. The developed software provides a DEA solution which is consistent with the framework and is ready-to-analyze with data mining tools, through a table-based structure. The developed framework is tested and applied in a real world project for benchmarking the vendors of a leading Turkish automotive company. The results show the effectiveness and the efficacy of the proposed framework
Multi crteria decision making and its applications : a literature review
This paper presents current techniques used in Multi Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) and their applications. Two basic approaches for MCDM, namely Artificial Intelligence MCDM (AIMCDM) and Classical MCDM (CMCDM) are discussed and investigated. Recent articles from international journals related to MCDM are collected and analyzed to find which approach is more common than the other in MCDM. Also, which area these techniques are applied to. Those articles are appearing in journals for the year 2008 only. This paper provides evidence that currently, both AIMCDM and CMCDM are equally common in MCDM
Supplier evaluation and selection in fuzzy environments: a review of MADM approaches
In past years, the multi-attribute decision-making (MADM)
approaches have been extensively applied by researchers to the
supplier evaluation and selection problem. Many of these studies
were performed in an uncertain environment described by fuzzy sets.
This study provides a review of applications of MADM approaches
for evaluation and selection of suppliers in a fuzzy environment. To
this aim, a total of 339 publications were examined, including papers
in peer-reviewed journals and reputable conferences and also some
book chapters over the period of 2001 to 2016. These publications
were extracted from many online databases and classified in some
categories and subcategories according to the MADM approaches,
and then they were analysed based on the frequency of approaches,
number of citations, year of publication, country of origin and
publishing journals. The results of this study show that the AHP and
TOPSIS methods are the most popular approaches. Moreover, China
and Taiwan are the top countries in terms of number of publications
and number of citations, respectively. The top three journals with
highest number of publications were: Expert Systems with Applications,
International Journal of Production Research and The International
Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology

A New Approach for Evaluating the Order Fulfillment Process Options of B2C Horizontal Portals Using DEA (Data Envelopment Analysis)
By using the traditional statistical or operations research methods for deciding the product-delivery logistics, the portal companies are not using their competitive advantages on being more e-enabled, informed and computationally able than their traditional counterparts. In this paper, we show some typical characteristics of the portals like their handling of a huge range of goods in terms of transactional values or volumes. Subsequently, we have identified three types of generic product-delivery logistics of the portals with various intermediate entities or trading partners. Then, a completely different approach using an extreme point method rather than the traditional central-tendency-based statistical methods has been suggested
A hybrid method of GRA and DEA for evaluating and selecting efficient suppliers plus a novel ranking method for grey numbers
Purpose: Evaluation and selection of efficient suppliers is one of the key issues in supply chain
management which depends on wide range of qualitative and quantitative criteria. The aim of
this research is to develop a mathematical model for evaluating and selecting efficient suppliers
when faced with supply and demand uncertainties.
Design/methodology/approach: In this research Grey Relational Analysis (GRA) and Data
Envelopment Analysis (DEA) are used to evaluate and select efficient suppliers under
uncertainties. Furthermore, a novel ranking method is introduced for the units that their
efficiencies are obtained in the form of interval grey numbers.
Findings: The study indicates that the proposed model in addition to providing satisfactory
and acceptable results avoids time-consuming computations and consequently reduces the
solution time. To name another advantage of the proposed model, we can point out that it
enables us to make decision based on different levels of risk.
Originality/value: The paper presents a mathematical model for evaluating and selecting
efficient suppliers in a stochastic environment so that companies can use in order to make
better decisions.Peer Reviewe
A new DEA-GAHP method for supplier selection problem
Supplier selection is one of the most important decisions made in supply chain management. Supplier evaluation problem has been in the center of supply chain researcher’s attention in these years. Managers regard some of these studies and methods inappropriate due to simple, weight scoring methods that generally are based on subjective opinions and judgments of decision maker units involved in the supplier evaluation process yielding imprecise and even unreliable results. This paper seeks to propose a methodology to integrate data envelopment analysis (DEA) and group analytical hierarchy process (GAHP) for evaluating and selecting the most efficient supplier. We develop a methodology, which consists of 6 steps, one by one has been introduced in lecture and finally applicability of proposed method is indicated by assessing 12 suppliers in a numerical example
The state of the art development of AHP (1979-2017): A literature review with a social network analysis
Although many papers describe the evolution of the analytic hierarchy process (AHP), most adopt a subjective approach. This paper examines the pattern of development of the AHP research field using social network analysis and scientometrics, and identifies its intellectual structure. The objectives are: (i) to trace the pattern of development of AHP research; (ii) to identify the patterns of collaboration among authors; (iii) to identify the most important papers underpinning the development of AHP; and (iv) to discover recent areas of interest. We analyse two types of networks: social networks, that is, co-authorship networks, and cognitive mapping or the network of disciplines affected by AHP. Our analyses are based on 8441 papers published between 1979 and 2017, retrieved from the ISI Web of Science database. To provide a longitudinal perspective on the pattern of evolution of AHP, we analyse these two types of networks during the three periods 1979?1990, 1991?2001 and 2002?2017. We provide some basic statistics on AHP journals and researchers, review the main topics and applications of integrated AHPs and provide direction for future research by highlighting some open questions
Strategic sourcing:a combined QFD and AHP approach in manufacturing
Purpose – This paper aims to develop an integrated analytical approach, combining quality function deployment (QFD) and analytic hierarchy process (AHP) approach, to enhance the effectiveness of sourcing decisions. Design/methodology/approach – In the approach, QFD is used to translate the company stakeholder requirements into multiple evaluating factors for supplier selection, which are used to benchmark the suppliers. AHP is used to determine the importance of evaluating factors and preference of each supplier with respect to each selection criterion. Findings – The effectiveness of the proposed approach is demonstrated by applying it to a UK-based automobile manufacturing company. With QFD, the evaluating factors are related to the strategic intent of the company through the involvement of concerned stakeholders. This ensures successful strategic sourcing. The application of AHP ensures consistent supplier performance measurement using benchmarking approach. Research limitations/implications – The proposed integrated approach can be principally adopted in other decision-making scenarios for effective management of the supply chain. Practical implications – The proposed integrated approach can be used as a group-based decision support system for supplier selection, in which all relevant stakeholders are involved to identify various quantitative and qualitative evaluating criteria, and their importance. Originality/value – Various approaches that can deal with multiple and conflicting criteria have been adopted for the supplier selection. However, they fail to consider the impact of business objectives and the requirements of company stakeholders in the identification of evaluating criteria for strategic supplier selection. The proposed integrated approach outranks the conventional approaches to supplier selection and supplier performance measurement because the sourcing strategy and supplier selection are derived from the corporate/business strategy
