Auroral zone absorption of radio waves transmitted via the ionosphere
A discussion of the design for a new antenna system for the transmitter stations is presented together with the measurements and power computation made on the old and new antennas. In the 12 mc back-scatter program at College, the technique used to measure the amplitude of each individual echo and reanalysis of the range distribution previously reported are discussed. Revisions in the techniques of observation of visual auroras and the methods of recording the data for analysis are described in detail.Section I Purposes – Section II Abstract – Section III Publications, Lectures, Reports and Conferences – Section IV Factual Data : Task A ; Task B – Section V Conclusions and Recommendations – Section VI Plans for Next Quarter – Section VII Personnel – Section VIII Appendix : Visual Observations of Aurora in Alaska 1953-1954 / C.T. Neutralino Proton Cross Sections in SUGRA and D-BRANE Models
We calculate the spin independent neutralino-proton cross section for
universal SUGRA, non universal SUGRA and D-brane models with R-parity
invariance. The regions of maximum cross section in these models has started to
be probed by the current detectors. The minimum cross section generally is
>~1\times 10^{-(9-10)}pb and hence will be accessible in the future detectors,
barring special regions of parameter space where it can reduce to =~10^{-12}pb.
However, the squarks and gluinos will be heavy (>~1 TeV) in the latter case,
but still accessible at the LHC.Comment: 3 pages, latex, 3 figures, talk at DPF 2000, Columbus, OH, August

Neutrino Masses
This is a review for Reports of Progress in Physics. After an introduction we
start by explaining the different neutrino masses corresponding to different
types of neutrinos, Dirac or Majorana, in section 2. In section 3 we discuss
the main elementary particle models for neutrino masses and their distinctive
phenomenological consequences. In section 4 we describe the status of direct
mass searches and Majorana mass searches in neutrinoless double beta decays. In
section 5 we go over the many cosmological implications of, and constraints on,
neutrino properties, mainly masses and lifetimes. Sections 6, 7 and 8 review
neutrino oscillations, the solar neutrino problem and the atmospheric neutrino
problem, their implications and the current and future experiments. In
particular, we explain oscillations in vacuum in section 6 and oscillations in
matter in section 7. Section 9 summarizes the main bounds imposed by stars,
mainly SN1987A. A few concluding remarks follow.Comment: 85 pp.,Tex file requires ioppreprint.sty and verbatim.tex, 12 figures

Determining All Universal Tilers
A universal tiler is a convex polyhedron whose every cross-section tiles the
plane. In this paper, we introduce a certain slight-rotating operation for
cross-sections of pentahedra. Based on a selected initial cross-section and by
applying the slight-rotating operation suitably, we prove that a convex
polyhedron is a universal tiler if and only if it is a tetrahedron or a
triangular prism.Comment: 18 pages, 12 figure
Quarterly Progress Report No.6
Signal intensity operations have stopped and the preliminary reduction of all field intensity records completed . The 12 me back-scatter equipment is described and operating conditions stated. Tentative interpretations of ob served echoes in terms of possible reflection mechanisms are given.Section I Purposes – Section II Abstract – Section III Publications, Lectures, Reports and Conferences – Section IV Factual Data : Task A Transmission of H.F.
