    Information Security from a Scientometric Perspective

    During recent years, Information societies are continually confronted with security threats and information vulnerabilities. Literature analysis of major disciplines is one of the key tools available to policymakers of research institutions and organizations. Scientometrics is the field of study which concerns itself with measuring and analyzing scientific literature. The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the research trends of information security in the Middle-East and the world from a scientometric perspective. Descriptive and analytical statistics were used in this study. The Scopus citation database was used to collect the publication data, as the largest abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature. Therefore, all documents related to "information security" were retrieved and analyzed. The results showed that the majority of scientific publications in the field of information security were produced in the United States of America and China. Among the Middle-Eastern countries, Iran ranked the first in terms of scientific publications in the field of information security while ranked 23th among the countries of the world. It is apparent that paying special attention to the field of information and data security in terms of international scientific collaborations, using knowledge and experiences of the leading, and supporting research and development in this field can improve the quality and quantity of scientific publications in this field. The expertise gathered during the process will prove invaluable and effective in confronting the security threats and vulnerabilities posed to information societies

    A Scientometric Study of Oral Medicine Articles from Iran Published in PubMed-Indexed Journals

    Objectives This study aimed to scientometrically assess the oral medicine articles from Iran published in PubMed-indexed journals.Methods In this descriptive cross-sectional study, the author information section of PubMed database was electronically searched for oral medicine articles published from the beginning of 2006 to the beginning of 2016 with at least one author from Iran using the keywords “oral medicine”, “oral and maxillofacial medicine”, “stomatology”, “stomatologist”, and “Iran”. The results were reported as frequency, and trend analysis was performed.Results A total of 280 oral medicine articles published from the beginning of 2006 to the beginning of 2016 were found to have at least one author from Iran, which comprised 2.9% of the entire articles in this field. The majority of published articles were original articles (77%) followed by case reports (15%), review articles (5%), short communications (2%) and letter to editors (1%). The majority of articles had been published in J Dent Res Dent Clin Dent Prospects (18%), followed by J Dent (Tehran) (6.7%), and J Contemp Dent Pract (5.5%). The trend of publication of articles was ascending during this time period except for the year 2011. The frequency of articles had a significantly ascending trend during the aforementioned time period (P=0.004).Conclusion From the beginning of 2006 to the beginning of 2016, Iran’s share of oral medicine articles published in PubMed-indexed journals was around 3% and had an ascending tren

    Research Impact of the Iranian Publications on Social Networks in Scopus Indexed

    Due to the major role of research in the sustainable development of countries all around the world, mapping the scientific production must be designed according to indexed in databases. The purpose of the present study is to analyze Iranian literature on the field of social networks in comparison with the same studies to cross the Middle East and the world level. This is research is a descriptive study. A total of 123,609 documents indexed pertained to this topic were processed from 1970 to the end of 2017 indexed in the Scopus database. Excel software was used to analyze the data. Different study types, characterized by years, city/country of origin, journals and more productive authors, the ratio cooperation between them by country and institutions, cites and H index. Data was collected and analyzed in Microsoft Excel software. The finding showed that United States was the highest producer (% 29.74), followed by China (%11.85) and Iran ranked 31th among the countries of the world and also 3rd among the Middle East countries (H index=23). Although the ratio of scientific production in bibliographical databases, particularly regional, is still relatively impressive then it is necessary to promote more research on it

    Indexing of Iranian Publications in Well-known Endodontic Textbooks: A Scientometric Analysis

    Introduction: Quoting an article in well-known textbooks is held as a credit for that paper. The numbers of Iranian publications mentioned in endodontic textbooks have increased during recent years. The aim of this investigation was to evaluate the number of Iranian articles quoted in eminent endodontic text books. Methods and Materials: Three known textbooks (Ingle’s Endodontics, Seltzer and Bender’s Dental Pulp and Cohen’s Pathways of the Pulp) were chosen and all the editions of the textbooks since 2000 were investigated for quoted Iranian publications. Only Iranian authors with affiliations from a domestic university were chosen. All references at the end of each chapter were read by hand searching, and results were noted. The trend and percentage of Iranian publications in different editions of the textbooks were also calculated. The number of citations of these publications in Google Scholar and Scopus databases were also obtained. Results: The number of Iranian publications in all well-known textbooks have notably increased since 2000. The number and percentage of Iranian publications in the latest edition of Cohen’s Pathways of the Pulp was higher compared to other textbooks as well as the previous edition of the same text.     Status of Scientific production of University of Birjand in Web of Science during 2000-2018

    The main purpose of this study was to evaluate the status of the scientific production of the University of Birjand on the Web of Science databases during the years 2000-2018. The method used in this study was descriptive which used scientometric technique. The findings showed that the researchers at the University of Birjand in WOS had the highest scientific collaboration with Ferdowsi University of Mashhad with 217 documents. Based on the findings of the research, the top 7 scientific clusters were extracted from the data obtained from the Web of Science database that the first to fourth clusters and sixth belonged to the field of chemistry and the fifth and seventh clusters belonged to geology. The results of the present study showed that the status of the University of Birjand in terms of scientific output among national and international universities is not very favorable. Since the production of science and its publication in internationally accredited journals is one of the key indicators in evaluating the national and international rankings of any university, it is necessary to monitor the status of the university\u27s scientific output on a continuous basis

    Evaluation of scientific status of endocrine, diabetes, and metabolism research centers in Iran using exergy method

    The aim of this study was to determine the scientific status of endocrine, diabetes and metabolism research centers in Iran using exergy method in terms of scientific publications indexed in the Web of Science, Scopus, and Google Scholar database in 2013. This study is a cross-sectional one. The study population included 6 Iranian endocrine, diabetes and metabolism research centers. Data were collected by referring to the Iranian Ministry of Health and Medical Education personally and also using the above-mentioned citation databases. Data were analyzed using Microsoft Excel and descriptive statistics. The results revealed that endocrine, diabetes and metabolism research centers of Shahid Beheshti and Tehran University of Medical Sciences were top centers in Iran in terms of the quality of scientific publications. Diabetes Research Center of Ahvaz University of Medical Sciences was found to have the weakest performance. This article is the results of the first study in Iran, regarding the evaluation of research centers by exergy analysis

    Co-authorship patterns and networks in the scientific publications of Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences

    The increasing amount of scientific collaboration has led to an increase  in the quality of scientific publications. The goal of this article is to analyze the co-authorship patterns and networks in SBUMS’s scientific publications in WOS from 2009 to 2013. Hence, the co-authorship indicators and ratio of national to international collaborations are determined. This research is a descriptive survey including scientometric approaches. HistCite and NWB software is used to draw and analyze the networks. The findings show that the scientific publications of SBUMS are 6633 publications. The most productive authors are Fereidoun Azizi and Mohamad Reza Zali. The maximum number of scientific publications is allocated to the articles written by more than 5 authors. Collaborative Index (CI), Degree of Collaboration (DC), and Collaborative Coefficient (CC) are 4.27, 0.96, and 0.71 respectively. The ratio of national to international collaborations is 4.78. In co-authorship networks, there are 12825 nodes (authors) that are linked with 97618 edges. The highest degree and betweenness centrality belongs to Masjedi showing the communication paths of other nodes overtaking them. The most international collaboration belongs to the USA. The collaboration of authors in SBUMS is almost good but the international collaboration is not so. Encouraging policies for the further collaboration of authors surely leads to increasing the quality and quantity of the scientific publications. It is recommended to repeat the network analysis in different periods of time.

    Iranian Authors\u27 Contributions to the Library Philosophy and Practice

    Objective: This study aimed to conduct a bibliometric analysis and scientific visualization of the contribution made by Iranians\u27 authors in the Library Philosophy and Practice (LPP) from 2006 to 2019. Material and Methods: This bibliometric analysis used Scopus database for retrieving data on all papers published by Iranians in LPP during the study time span. VOSviewer and Microsoft Excel software packages were used for data analysis. Findings: Out of 139 papers authored by Iranians in LPP, the first published paper belonged to 2006. An increasing trend can be seen in annual publication number, with 1 and 64 papers in 2007 and 2019, respectively. The first ranked active author was Khasseh A.A. with 9 papers. Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences and Payame Noor University were in the top of the contributing institutes, each with authoring 20 papers followed by Islamic Azad University, Central with 13 papers. Iranian more collaborated with Indians. The mean rate of received citations per paper was 0.62. The top three highly-cited authors were Isfandyiari-Moghaddam, A. (with 13), Khasseh A.A. and Saberi M.K. (each with 11) and Biranvand (with 10), respectively. Citing some known journals in their papers, Iranian researchers considered main topics in LIS field, including bibliometrics, altmetrics and library management and technologies. Conclusion: This study is a relatively comprehensive bibliometric analysis of Iranians\u27 contributions to LPP. The result can be helpful as a road map for researchers and readers countrywide as well as the editorial team of the journal

    Scientific Outputs and Co-authorship Patterns in the Fields of Electronic, Civil and Mechanical Engineering of Azarbaijan Shahid Madani University (2000-2019): A Scientometric Analysis

    The purpose of this study was to investigate the scientific outputs and co-authorship patterns of Azarbaijan Shahid Madani University in the fields of electrical, civil, and mechanical engineering, based on Web of Science (2000-2019). The paper relied on both quantitative and scientometric methods. 1870 and 291 records were retrieved respectively for "Azarbaijan Shahid Madani University" and "the fields of electrical, civil, and mechanical engineering". The questions and assumptions were answered through descriptive and inferential statistics. VOSviewer and SPSS were used respectively for mapping and testing assumptions. The findings showed that the total scientific outputs of electrical engineering in the world, indexed by the Web of Science (2000-2019) were 2,973,902, of which 44,768 records (1.6%) belonged to Iran (rank 16). During the same period, the total civil engineering records was 395,649, of which 11,876 records (3%) belong to Iran (rank 10). In addition, the total scientific outputs of mechanical engineering were 941,586, of which 25,263 records (2.7%) belonged to Iran (rank 12). The findings showed that in Iran Azarbaijan Shahid Madani University in electrical engineering is ranked 36th (2000-2019). The findings showed that Ajami with 43 (17%), Hoveidae with 5 (23%), Gharraei and Mohammadpourfard, each with 10 records (17%), were the top authors in the fields of electrical, civil, and mechanical engineering (2000-2019), respectively. Also, Ajami with 43 (1000 citations), Najafi with 42 (564 citations), Banaei with 41 records (473 citations), and Oskuee with 16 records (305 citations) have high co-authorship densities (37, 31, 22, and 29, respectively). Moreover, there was no meaningful difference between men and women in electrical, civil, and mechanical engineering in scientific outputs (Sig=0.0927).     Bibliometric study of the Journal of New Marketing Research

    The objective here is first, to analyze the components of the trends of publishing, topics, methodology, authors status and references to the articles of the subject journal; and, next, to compare the content and structure of this journal with the criteria of new regulations on determining the credibility of the Iranian scientific journals. This study is run through a quantitative content analysis and evaluative methods. The statistical population consists of 372 published articles between 2011 and 2018. The findings reveal that the highest count of articles published in a year with a frequency of 80 is 2014 (21.4%). In terms of the count of authors of an article, 96% of articles (357 articles) are co-authored. It is found that72% of the authors are male, 42% of the first authors, and 27% of all of authors are assistant professors. In total, 1331 keywords are assigned to the journal articles, with a minimum of 2 and maximum of 10. Brand, customer, and market and marketing issues are the most frequent, respectively. Most articles are run by adopting the survey (156 articles) and correlation (72 articles) methods. The average count of references per article is 35, with 83% in English and 17% is Farsi. Moreover, errors are observed in cases like the inclusion of organizational affiliation, academic degree, methodological elements, and citation method, while more than 90% of the criteria of new regulations on determining the credibility of the Iranian scientific journals are observed
