Low-complexity blind maximum-likelihood detection for SIMO systems with general constellations
The demand for high data rate reliable communications poses great challenges to the next generation wireless systems in highly dynamic mobile environments. In this paper, we investigate the joint maximum-likelihood (ML) channel estimation and signal detection problem for single-input multiple-output (SIMO) wireless systems with general modulation constellations and propose an efficient sequential decoder for finding the exact joint ML solution. Unlike other known methods, the new decoder can even efficiently find the joint ML solution under high spectral efficiency non-constant- modulus modulation constellations. In particular, the new algorithm does not need such preprocessing steps as Cholesky or QR decomposition in the traditional sphere decoders for joint ML channel estimation and data detection. The elimination of such preprocessing not only reduces the number of floating point computations, but also will potentially lead to smaller size and power consumption in VLSI implementations while providing better numerical stability
Efficient Optimal Joint Channel Estimation and Data Detection for Massive MIMO Systems
In this paper, we propose an efficient optimal joint channel estimation and
data detection algorithm for massive MIMO wireless systems. Our algorithm is
optimal in terms of the generalized likelihood ratio test (GLRT). For massive
MIMO systems, we show that the expected complexity of our algorithm grows
polynomially in the channel coherence time. Simulation results demonstrate
significant performance gains of our algorithm compared with suboptimal
non-coherent detection algorithms. To the best of our knowledge, this is the
first algorithm which efficiently achieves GLRT-optimal non-coherent detections
for massive MIMO systems with general constellations.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures, Conferenc
Blind frequency-offset estimator for OFDM systems transmitting constant-modulus symbols
We address the problem of carrier frequency offset
(CFO) synchronization in OFDM communications systems in the
context of frequency-selective fading channels. We consider the case where the transmitted symbols have constant modulus, i.e., PSK constellations. A novel blind CFO estimation algorithm is developed. The new algorithm is shown to greatly outperform a recently published blind technique that exploits the fact that practical OFDM systems are not fully loaded. Further, the proposed algorithm is consistent even when the system is fully
loaded. Finally, the proposed CFO estimator is obtained via a one-dimensional search, the same as with the existing virtual subcarrier-based estimator, but achieves a substantial gain in performance (10-dB SNR or one order of magnitude in CFO MSE)
Low Complexity Blind Equalization for OFDM Systems with General Constellations
This paper proposes a low-complexity algorithm for blind equalization of data
in OFDM-based wireless systems with general constellations. The proposed
algorithm is able to recover data even when the channel changes on a
symbol-by-symbol basis, making it suitable for fast fading channels. The
proposed algorithm does not require any statistical information of the channel
and thus does not suffer from latency normally associated with blind methods.
We also demonstrate how to reduce the complexity of the algorithm, which
becomes especially low at high SNR. Specifically, we show that in the high SNR
regime, the number of operations is of the order O(LN), where L is the cyclic
prefix length and N is the total number of subcarriers. Simulation results
confirm the favorable performance of our algorithm
Signal estimation in cognitive satellite networks for satellite-based industrial internet of things
Satellite industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) plays an important role in industrial manufactures without requiring the support of terrestrial infrastructures. However, due to the scarcity of spectrum resources, existing satellite frequency bands cannot satisfy the demand of IIoT, which have to explore other available spectrum resources. Cognitive satellite networks are promising technologies and have the potential to alleviate the shortage of spectrum resources and enhance spectrum efficiency by sharing both spectral and spatial degrees of freedom. For effective signal estimations, multiple features of wireless signals are needed at receivers, the transmissions of which may cause considerable overhead. To mitigate the overhead, part of parameters, such as modulation order, constellation type, and signal to noise ratio (SNR), could be obtained at receivers through signal estimation rather than transmissions from transmitters to receivers. In this article, a grid method is utilized to process the constellation map to obtain its equivalent probability density function. Then, binary feature matrix of the probability density function is employed to construct a cost function to estimate the modulation order and constellation type for multiple quadrature amplitude modulation (MQAM) signal. Finally, an improved M 2 M ∞ method is adopted to realize the SNR estimation of MQAM. Simulation results show that the proposed method is able to accurately estimate the modulation order, constellation type, and SNR of MQAM signal, and these features are extremely useful in satellite-based IIoT
