Dungeons and Downloads: Collecting Tabletop Fantasy Role-Playing Games in the Age of Downloadable PDFs

    Get PDF
Purpose – This paper aims to provide libraries with collections advice regarding fantasy role-playing games. Design/methodology/approach – Current and emerging publication and sales models of pencil and paper, tabletop fantasy role-playing games are explored. Details of print, print-on-demand, free and purchasable downloads, and subscription-based options for major fantasy role-playing games and alternatives are provided. Findings – Many options are available to libraries wishing to provide support for fantasy role-playing game programming. While an overwhelming quantity of publications are often available for purchase, usually only a bare minimum is required to run a role-playing game. Free or modestly priced options are available for libraries on a shoestring budget. Libraries interested in supporting fantasy role-playing game programming with collections need not spend much. Spending less on collections requires a greater amount of imagination, socializing, creativity, collaboration and literacy on the part of program participants. Originality/value – Many libraries are interested in supporting fantasy role-playing games with collections, but do not know where to start. While much is being written about gaming in libraries, little has been written to help libraries navigate current role-playing game book publication and sales models

Tracking and Improving Bedside Procedures Through Standardized Documentation

    Get PDF
Proposal and Goals: We propose to create a standardized electronic procedure note that will replace all documentation for bedside procedures without sedation. ◦Makes notes legible and easily identified ◦Allows uniform tracking of metrics necessary to identify outcomes from a procedure (blood loss, specimens, post-procedure studies, complications) 2.The procedure note will be created in such a way as to allow specialized procedures to be added over time with minor customization to improve physician/nursing work flows and increase efficiency ◦Allows procedures to be sorted and tracked by type ◦Will be constructed to allow attaching CPT codes to patient charts via documentation 3. We propose using this procedure note to create a running database of all bedside procedures ◦Can be utilized by existing software (Qlik) to query all procedure notes to create large anonymized patient listshttps://jdc.jefferson.edu/patientsafetyposters/1071/thumbnail.jp

This article content is aimed at characterization of urgent problematic issues, which are connected with determining the place of forensic expertise in cases related to the protection of consumer rights and the development of ways of solving emerging problems. The article emphasizes that in accordance with the current legislation, consumers have the right to protect their rights to the necessary quality, safety of goods and services, as well as the right to compensation for losses caused by goods of inadequate quality, dangerous to life and health, etc. It is determined that the main control in the sphere of trade is exercised by the State Service for Product Safety and Consumer Protection, and it is established that the problems are the inability of this service to carry out an instant check on a consumer complaint of a particular point of sale. At the present stage, the problem of citizens' rights including rights in the sphere of consumption, is extremely urgent, because accession of Ukraine to the European Union requires the application of European standards of product quality. In developed country, the consumer is a major player in market relations, which is focused on the production and improvement of the quality of goods and services. The application of sanctions to sellers, manufacturers of poor-quality products does not always give the necessary effect, because usually an unscrupulous manufacturer (seller, executor) pays a fine and continues to provide poor quality services, to supply products that are dangerous to life and health. Important factor in improving the quality of products and services provided is the legal knowledge of consumers themselves in protecting their rights. Consumer rights have a prerogative over the rights of sellers and producers, since human life and health under the Constitution of Ukraine is a fundamental value of the state. The authors described the actions that the consumer should take to protect their violated rights, and emphasized that in cases where the consumer seeks to restore justice for this issue, he should ask an expert institution to perform a forensic trade research.

Nitrite Accumulation by denitrifiers isolated from fluidized Bed Reactors operated in an Aquaculture Unit

In fluidized bed rnactors, applled for nitrate removal in an aquaculture unit, denitrificatlon of nitrate was found to result in an accumulation of nitrite. Isolation of denltrifylng bacteria from these reactors revealed that most of these isolates produced nitrite from nitrate under controlled laboratory. conditions. Two of the isolates, one with accumulated nitrite while respiring on nitrate, and the other not, were subject to further studies. It was found that nitrite accumulation in one of these isolates could be adequately explained by differences in the relative rates of nitrate and nitrite reduction. Inhibiting concentrations of nitrite were lower for the isolate which did not accumulate nitrite. Incubation of the nitrite-accumulating isolate with different carbon sources resulted ln differences in the relative nitrite accumulation (as compared with the runount of nitrate reduced

Embedded Information Literacy: An Arts & Humanities Model

    Get PDF
With the installation of a new Arts & Humanities Dean and recognizing the need to address the information literacy skills of undergraduates, the faculty and library teamed-up to integrate course design. We piloted an embedded information literacy program for a 3rd year course in the Department of Classical Studies. The implementation was successful due to collaboration with the faculty, department and course instructor as well as the continual assessment, adaptation and evaluation of the course content. Due to the organic nature of this model, it may be adapted to other programs in Arts & Humanities

Librarians on You Tube: using online tutorials to teach various aspects of the information search process

    Get PDF
Librarians spend a great deal of time working with students. This could occur on the reference desk, during an in-person consultation, or in the classroom. However, with the shift towards e-learning and a growing number of students completing research and assignments off-campus, librarians are constantly looking for new ways to reach a wider diversity of users. Librarians at Western Libraries have used various methods for reaching out to students to enhance learning. One of the newer methods involves creating online video tutorials. These short videos are created, mounted onto YouTube, and then added to the library website. Western Libraries, and the following several groups have been involved in the creation of video tutorials: the Western Libraries wide Web Tutorials Working Group, the Allyn & Betty Taylor Library’s Web Modules Group, and the D.B. Weldon Library’s Instruction Portfolio. These groups worked separately and therefore the experience in creating videos, and the look and feel of the videos themselves, differed somewhat from group to group. This has led to a greater understanding of best practices and has given Western Libraries a certain level of expertise. This paper will provide background information on the video tutorials work at Western Libraries, and will describe the various purposes for which they were created. It will also describe the various approaches used, best practices and assessment. Finally, this paper will address challenges and discuss future directions
